great experience start to finish 4/17/2010

I was suffering with back and hip pain before I came to ATA in Concord, MA for a bike fitting. I left with a fabulous new bike that eliminated all the aches and pains. It turns out that my previous frame (purchased in 2009) was too large. I was paying the price with pain and poor performance. My new bike feels like an extension of my body. Hussam understands that fitting a bike involves more than pulling a bike off the rack and seeing how you look on it. My experience with other bike shops leads me to believe that they do not understand how to fit women to allow us to ride to our full potential. Hussam fitted the bike to my proportions and fine tuned the fit until it was perfect. I am climbing hills stronger and riding better than ever before. I recommended ATA to anyone looking to ride a bike without causing themselves needless pain and my guess is that would be anyone buying a bike. more

This Changes Everything... 3/21/2010

To finally be riding a bicycle that so dramatically changes how my body connects with the road is unbelievable. I had been riding a carbon road bike for 3 years while enduring back pain and muscle tightening that would last for days afterwards, regardless of how much I stretched or how many exercises I did. I couldn't find a comfortable riding position that didn't cause some form of injury, no matter how many bicycle shops I visited for advice. My hope for being able to ride fast for long distances was dwindling. By chance, I ended up at ATA in Concord and met Husam who took one look at my height and proportions and said that he could fit me on a bike that would maximize my strength without the pain and frustration that I was having. Husam determined my ideal frame geometry by using a simulator and video recording. I could feel the difference right away in the fit lab. After the custom frame arrived and the bike was assembled with specific parts to match my needs, I was struck by its overall beauty. It looked so sleek and elegant, unlike my old bike. I've only had the new flaxcarbon bicycle for 3 days and already have ridden 5 times. I love it. Husam told me that it will take 200 miles to get used to the new bicycle. I already notice that I am riding totally differently. I'm using different muscles. I'm not standing to relieve back tension. My pedaling is smoother. The balance and maneuvering is much more intuitive. I feel as though I can trust my bicycle and my body to do what they're supposed to do. I thank Husam and all the folks at ATA who built the bike and advised me to take advantage of their amazing fit clinic. The time investment was minimal. The financial investment will save in the long run since I won't have to visit the chiropractor! Pros: Ability to identify the core issues quickly more

It IS about the bike! 3/17/2010

I can't say enough about my experience with Hasam and ATA cycles in Concord, Mass. Both my husband and I had dynamic laser fits with Hasam and it was the best money we ever spent! He spent an incredible amount of time with us, was extremely thorough and really captured who we were as cyclists and what our goals were. Thanks to Hasam's expertise, we now have bikes that fit us properly and maximize performance. Our first time on our bikes, we were significantly faster with the same effort and considerably more comfortable. Hasam became a fast friend of ours and we will highly recommend his store to our friends. We have complete confidence in Hasam and will be loyal customers for a lifetime. If you are a serious cyclist and want to improve your comfort and performance, I would highly suggest you take a trip to ATA cycles and see Hasam.\r P.S. Peter and Hasam's sister ( I wish I could remember her name!), also employees of the store were very accommodating to us as well! \r Pros: Personal attention/Expertise/Top notch service! Cons: Absolutely nothing!!! more

Extraordinary Fitting and Outstanding Service! 3/12/2010

I have been riding/racing for over 35 years and I’m almost 60 years old. The last 5-10 years I have really felt a loss of power which I attributed to, well getting older. Over the years I have had various aches and pains in my, knees, hands, wrists, shoulders and back which I accepted as “normal” pain from bike riding. \r \r I have often thought about getting “professionally fitted” but it was never a realistic priority since life and raising a family was my 1st priority. So, this year I decided I would finally get that fitting and try to get rid of some of those aches I have lived with for years. I searched the internet and discovered ATA Cycles and the Fit Lab. On the web site I watched the fit videos and listened to the technical explanation and analysis of each of the steps of the fit process. It was obvious that owner Husam Sahin was not only a master bike fitter but passionate about cycling and people. He wants each bike rider to have the best experience they can have riding a bicycle. It doesn’t matter if you are a nationally ranked rider or just someone who loves to ride -- the process did not distinguish. \r \r I called ATA, spoke with Husam and made an appointment for my fitting. Upon arrival I was greeted by the friendly staff and Husam who welcomed me to ATA cycles. We then began the detailed process of fitting which takes 1.5-2 hours to complete. Husam’s enthusiasm for my fitting and attention to details made me feel special, like I was a national caliber rider, not a 60 year old recreational cyclist. After watching him interact with other customers, it’s obvious that he treats everyone as if they were national caliber riders.\r \r As part of the process I was setup on the adjustable Argon bike using the measurements from my current bike and my power output was 175 watts. The next step was incredible to me. Husam dialed in the bike with my recommended measurements based on my fitting and I started to ride. The power meter was facing down so I couldn’t see it and Husam asked how it felt. The new position immediately felt good, different but good. I then lifted the power monitor so I could see it and WOW! it was reading 225 watts. I had increased my power by 50 watts and felt comfortable doing it. I wasn’t expending any more energy than I had previously but was now generating 225 watts of power. \r \r \r The next step was the most fun, choosing a frame from 3-frames Husam recommended that would fit my body and selecting a component group.\r \r If you are passionate about bikes and want to get the most out of your cycling experience whether it’s riding a century, fast group riding or racing, ATA Cycles is the place to go! You won’t regret it! \r \r Pros: Passion for Cycling! Knowledgeable+friendly Staff! more

Difference Maker 3/11/2010

I have know Husam since I was a young junior rider just getting into the sport. I believe his love of cycling and excitement in juniors who were eager to learn about and excel in the sport led him to help my brothers and I, back before we were really involved with any club or had many resources to support us in our cycling endeavors. Since that time I have been on several different teams worked my way up to a cat 2 and am now working toward my cat 1 upgrade. This year our team is having custom built frames, obviously we really wanted to make sure they absolutely fit us correctly. Having recently heard about Husam having this fitlab at his ATA location in Concord, we decided to investigate and do some research about it. It sounded good but I was still skeptical about the whole idea. Over the years I have been fit by so many different people or so called ""experts"" in so many different places, with all kinds of the latest and greatest fit equipment including the retul lazer fit sytem. But I've never really been completely satisfied or confident that I was really in the best position possible or even the position that was really right for me. Husam's fitlab sounded like something different and the team thought it would be a good fit with the fact that we were getting custom frames. So even though I trust Husam I couldn't help but be skeptical going into my fit session after all my previous experiences at other places. When I entered the fitlab room I Immediately could see that Husam takes his fitting to a whole other level. Still not sure about it though, he took all my measurements which was a much more precise procedure than any I have experienced before. He set me up on the fitlab adjustable bike and I began warming up watching the power meter, slowing increasing up to about 220 watts just cruising long at a very consistent comfortable pace. Husam then began adjusting the bike hydraulically as I was riding, he was observing me and pointing out poor habits I had from my past position that was clearly not right for me. As he changed the bike beneath me I told him when it felt better or worse. Now this is where it began to get impressive, he was able to recreate the position close to what I had been riding and was used to, I said it felt good, he turned the wattage meter away so that I couldn't see it as I was still going along at 220 and then he changed the bike I felt the change but couldn't quite tell what was moving but as I was riding it clearly felt more comfortable and I felt as though it was as if I had a bit more leverage on the pedals and they moved more effortlessly, I was almost afraid I wasn't pushing as hard. Very impressed I told him that this was much more comfortable and he then turned the wattage meter so I could see it again and I was amazed to see it at 255, I just couldn't believe it, it felt no different than the 220 i had been pushing a few minutes before almost easier and certainly more comfortable. My entire body felt engaged and in line as one working unit. I personally have always despised riding trainers, I'd rather go out for 4 hours in 16 degrees in the winter than 2 hours on the trainer... But I didn't want to get off this bike, it was definitely the most comfortable I had ever felt on a bicycle. I played around on it for a while pushing pretty hard and was very happy to see the numbers I was putting out compared to my effort. I am very excited for the new bikes to be finished now and to start the 2010 racing season. Already with the adjustments to my current bike I notice a big difference, I simply enjoy being on my bike more, I feel better about it, I'm more motivated day in and day out to ride. Its been almost a month now since the fit. I'll probably do a follow up review after I get my new bike and do my first race on it. As far as I'm concerned this fit is worth the price of your bicycle. It was so far superior to any fit I have done in the past, I was truly amazed. Pros: Lots- see details Cons: Other riders may accuse you of doping... more

ATA Cycles Fit Lab 3/11/2010

I was in awe when I first walked into the shop. I had been told that it was really nice but I had no idea that everything would be so high-end. When it was time to start the fit process I was amazed by all of the high-end equipment. I felt like I was finally going to be properly fit to my bike. Husam went through every little detail of my fit diligence and he was able to answer all of my questions. I left the shop with the confidence that my new bike will fit me better then any bike that I have ever ridden. more

Excellent Fitting 3/6/2010

Went for a fitting with Husam in Sept. 2009 - resolved a problem with pain in my hips. Went back for a check-up. The man is dedicated and knows his stuff. The best I have been to and I have been to a few. Pros: Thorough expertise and dedication more

Go here if you want to get it right the first time 1/18/2010

I had read all the previous reviews here prior to deciding to buy my next bike at ATA and my experience was similar that of others.\r \r What I hoped to get from purchasing here as opposed to other shops was an upfront insurance policy that I would get the perfect bike for both my body and riding objectives. Prior to even deciding which frame I wanted I spent roughly three hours getting fit and then listening too and questioning the owner (try that somewhere else). It was pretty clear at that point I was dealing with a dedicated bike proffesional as opposed to some dude just selling pretty bikes. I've been in plenty of other shops and this place is definitely is in it's own league in that regard.\r \r A week later I picked up my bike. As luck would have it the weather was really nice for January and I was able to get in 40 miles. And it's clear the upfront time and process, which you won't get anywhere else in the area as far as I know, definitely resulated in getting a bike with the attributes I was looking for and perfectly fit to my body. \r \r What separates this place is:\r You can buy a high end great bike anywhere. Heck, a few mouse clicks can get you that. But, without the upfront dilligence provided at ATA that bike fitting your body and riding goals and objectives would be left to a roll of the dice. Here you can be confident that you'll nail it. They fit bikes to people, not people to bikes. It's a reverse process compared to industry standards that yields results not left to chance for certain.\r \r Fit. It's pretty easy to be comfortable on a bike. The right stem and a nice seat could do that. Being comfortable and in a position where you get the most efficiencey out of your ability is another story. That's what you get at ATA. Comfort should be and probably is a given just about anywhere....being comfortable with a fit tailored to your riding objectives and assuring you get the most out of yourself and that your position is in in line with your objectives is where ATA separates itelf. \r \r The shop is expensive compared to other options but if you dig a little below the surface in the long run it probably isn't. You'll probably see Bike Y with Dura Ace, for example, cheaper elsewhere. But scratch a little deaper you'll probably see corners cut with on the seat post, breaks, ect. elsewhere. The ATA verison will be top shelf right down to the bar tape. Not to mention you'll know you get the precise cassette, seat, ect that you're looking for. Certainly a better value than needing to swap out a stem, gears, or whatever by saving a few bucks up front. And off course the value of insuring a precise fit on a proper bike is is massive.\r \r Long term thinkers will definitely view this as a great place to purchase a bike. Short term bargain hunters should probably look elsewhere.\r \r I would definitely recommend purchasing a bike, or other bike related items, at ATA to anyone who is enthusiastic about cycling and looking to insure they get a top quality product suited to their individual wants and needs.\r \r \r \r \r \r \r \r \r Pros: Anything you can think of regarding bikes Cons: That's not cheap in the short term more

Don't go anywhere else 12/21/2009

These reviews are all sounding repetitive, but my experience was the same as the others. Husam is the best bike fitter around, and it makes a huge difference to your comfort and power output on the bike. You might think only a pro should bother with a professional bike fit (I did), but after seeing what Husam can do I now think anyone who does even somewhat regular cycling should do it. I had raced about seven years and never realized how bad my position was until I saw Husam. He radically changed my position and it's made a huge difference so far and I can't wait to see how things go next season. I had to drive about 2.5 hrs each way to get there, but it was hands down the most worthwhile thing I've ever done in cycling. Pros: Best bike fit, great service, great honest people more

Pro Bike Fit. 12/18/2009

Six months after winning my 3rd Cycling National Championship, a near fatal auto accident left me with a broken femur and a shattered hip that required extensive reconstruction surgery. This included nine 3.5’ screws and a 10’ plate. Six months after the operation I was finally able to walk but recovery and riding were very slow. My hip and leg were now different in size, strength, sensitivity, stability and geometry. Rehab was predictably challenging but I was determined to get back into racing condition as soon as possible.\r After a year of grueling work I was back competing in Bike races but only at 80 percent. In addition to the rehab issues, I just couldn’t find the sweet spot of power and comfort on the bike that I used to know. It was during this period that a friend suggested I have professional bike fit with Husam Sahin at ATA Cycle in Concord, MA.\r I’ve been a Cat 1 racer for 20 years but never had a Pro fit. I guess my success just clouded its advantages. In 2002 & 2003 I was the number one ranked Cat 1 USCF Crit. Rider in the Country and was skeptical that anyone could do a better job than I did for myself. \r But this time around things were very, very different and I knew I needed help in a big way, so I made an appointment with Husam.\r When I met Husam for the first time, my immediate impression was that ‘this guy approaches bike fitting (and bikes generally) in the same way any true master looks at their craft; with passion, attention to detail and the pursuit of perfection. I connected instantly with his unassuming manner and expert commentary around the specificity, comfort and individuality aspects of the total bike fit.\r Husam and I have worked together for over a year and I have grown to appreciate our relationship a great deal. To be sure, there are the expected professional client service aspects but Husam provides far more than just this. He is also a teacher & mentor and of a caliber normally reserved for the elite European Pro Peloton. This is something you can’t buy. \r We have done 2 fits spaced apart over many months. We have made adjustments to my position improving my power output as my strength increases. Thanks to Husam’s guidance, my racing form started coming around in 2009. I finished 3rd in the fairly renowned Pro 1-2 New Britain Criterium with around 100 entries. Not bad for an injured 46 year old against 100 guys most of who were in their twenties.\r Recently we did a re-fit to set up the optimum position for 2010. Husam made a few more adjustments to my fit that improved my power by 60 watts! Need I say more?\r Pros: Expertise and Attention more

The place to go for a the best bicycle fit and a bicycle 12/6/2009

I"" scheduled a fit about three months ago with ATA thinking I might need a different stem or a saddle adjustment. Well, after the fit Husam said, ""I had the body of a 40 something and my bike was set up for some one in their 70s."" Husam set me up with a bike that has made my cyceling experience sooo much better in every way. I can not say enough about all the aspects of my experience at ATA, from the fit all the way through the process of choosing each component for the final product (a bike that will fit you like none other). I'm not promoting any particular brand just a great bike shop. Thanks Husam All the best, John M. Gruen Pros: Knowledge and Experience and Professionalism Cons: The bike your know own doesn't fit you. more

FINALLY bikes that fit!! 12/2/2009

Where to begin? How about some numbers: thousands of dollars spent on bikes previously, low power output, high bills in P/T, many hours of riding in pain and getting nowhere. That was the before picture, before Husam set me straight and showed me that my (relatively new) “Cervelo Soloist” did not fit me. Not only that, it was not even the right bike for me. I had been noticing a lack of improvement even after spending $5,500 on this new bike. I was in pain. My neck, shoulder, hip and knee were a mess. It turns out the top tube on the “Cervelo” is too long for my body. I was stretched out so far I was not able to engage my core and consequently losing power. The list goes on and on. I was astounded at the news but happy that there was an answer to the problem: Husam and the “Fit Lab”. He was able to put me on the fit bike and get a perfect fit for me both for a time trial bike and a road bike. I had gone to see him the week before a half Ironman and they got the new time trial bike ready for me so that I could ride that in the race instead of the “Cervelo”. I rode my new “LOOK 596” for the first time in that half Ironman and took a total of 40 minutes off my previous best time for a half Ironman! 20 minutes off the bike and 20 minutes off the run. As any triathlete knows coming off the bike with legs feeling good is key to a good run. This was the first time I had ever managed to run the whole 13.1 miles, as my legs felt GREAT coming off the bike. Why, because the bike FIT! There was also a big increase in power output with no increase in effort. Husam was able to get me from 160W to 225W just with FIT. I now have a time trial bike for my triathlons and a road bike (a beautiful, COMFORTABLE, FAST, “La Pierre”) for the bulk of my bike training and I could not be happier. I am climbing hills with less effort and no pain. I can ride for hours and not feel pain in my hips and the numbness in my feet has also lessened. I recommend everyone who tells me they are having pain/problems with their bikes to go and see Husam. I made the mistake of dealing with an area bike shop and thinking they knew what they were doing. Their answer to my knee pain was to put shims on my shoes because the fit was “just fine”. Time to train is precious, it takes time away from family and friends, do yourself a favor and do not hesitate to see Husam and the team at “ATA Cycles” BEFORE you buy a bike. It will save you time and money and pain! Pros: Fit service more

Great Service 10/17/2009

The service is the best. Hussam treated us exceptionally well even though we are not top tier riders. His methodology for fitting and making sure you get the most out of your bike is far beyond what we've seen at any bike shop anywhere (night and day). We love the bikes we got and are planning a century ride in the spring. Highly recommended. Pros: You get a bike that fits you perfectly more

ATA Cycles in Concord - The Absolute Best 9/8/2009

What impressed me most about ATA Cycles and Husam Sahin was his humility and humbleness, whether you are a beginner or a pro triathlete, there is no need to put on an air with Husam. Yes, he is one of the top fitters in the country, yes, there are 15+ thousand dollar bicycles here from European brands you've never heard of, and yes, Husam Sahin will still treat you as if you were his only customer. Whether your spending 5 dollars or $1000. This is one local business that people gladly support because of the great atmosphere, friendly service from the employees, and of course for the professional technical advice. I can tell you that the staff here would rather direct you towards the right bicycle for you, versus steering you towards an unnecessarily expensive model for their gain. Trust is a large part of anyone's purchase decision and the staff here will immediately put you at ease. Feel comfortable deciding on your own if you disagree with their recommendation for any particular item. You can't get a better fitting bicycle. Pros: Excellent Service, Personal Attention Cons: None - This is a higher end Shop more

Exceptional - the place to go if you want the best 8/21/2009

ATA is known for being the best, and it's easy to see why. They fit each bike to the rider by measuring you and by filming you and analyzing your pedaling on a computer. From what I can tell, getting a bike properly fit can make the same bike go 0.5-1.0 mph faster. They would rather have you get a bike that is right for you, not just one with a big price tag. They seem to carry only bikes of best quality for a given price point, from beginner to elite. The owner himself helped me pick a bike, and he upgraded my crank for me for free. Every bike I get from now on will be from ATA. Pros: Wonderful service, best selection, incredibly knowledgeable more

ATA Cycles - When your ready to live the dream!! 8/18/2009

I wandered into ATA Cycles 3 years ago. I was a 250 pound, 45 year old, recently divorced, middle aged mess. I recall it was late on a Saturday night well after closing. Anyway, the door was open, the lights were on, and as I've now learned is typical, Husam was still there working. I'm sure I looked nothing like a cyclist, and in fact I hadn't been for twenty years, but despite my appearance Husam took time to talk with me. Several weeks later I returned, that's when Husam sold me the ""Magic"" shoes. They were Sidi Mega Width and for the first time I was able to ride without foot pain. That winter I Dropped 40 pounds by spinning indoors- MAGIC!!! Back to the shop I went in April looking for something to replace my 25 year old Basso steel frame. I walked out the owner of a Giant TCR C-1 which was the perfect entry level frame for someone of my size. The fit was perfect and for the first time in my life I was able to ride in complete comfort, again ... MAGIC !! This year crew at ATA advised me to try a Storck Scenario C.0.9 and WOW!!!! I'M LIVING THE DREAM!! I'm 48 yrs. old, Racing again, and happier then I ever thought I could be! The folks at ATA are all the best in the business. They listen, they care, they really know their products, they are all passionate obout cycling, and they will never steer you wrong. Once you experience ATA, you'll never want to go anywhere else, believe me Magic happens at ATA!!!\r If you ride, you owe it to yourself to at least stop by and say ""Hi"" to Husam, John, Kate, Pete, Robin, Chris and the rest of the crew. You'll never find such a collection superfine Bikes and People anywhere! Pros: Cutting Edge Technology/ Old School Customer Service Cons: Where were you twenty years ago?? more

good store good experience 8/17/2009

just bought a new bike from ata concord last weekend. i was looking for a particular bike model and found ata's name from the manufacturer's dealer directory. the experience was very positive. also had a pleasant conversation with the owner husam sahin, who proudly showed me around his fit lab. i had not seen any local bike stores with such high-tech equipments.\r \r overall, good store, good buy. recommended.\r \r more

A wonderful high end bike store 8/3/2009

ATA has all the ingredients of a great bike store -- great bikes, a passionate and knowledgeable staff that cares about the needs of customers and state of the art bike fitting technology. The store offers a superb selection of high performance bikes from Europe and the US. They make use of fitlab software and laser technology for a custom fit and the owner Husam Sahin and his friendly staff go the extra mile. When I chose my Wilier Cento 1 bike, the frame wasnt in stock in the color of my choice. Instead of having me wait months for the frame to show up, Husam built me a bike using the Cento 1 frame in another color and will rebuild the bike when my ""own"" frame will arrive. This allowed me to ride all summer on the Cento 1. It shows how ATA goes the extra mile to take care of its customers even for small things such as frame color. Highly recommended for enthusiasts seeking individual attention and custom fittng. Pros: Great Bikes, Great Staff , State of Art Fitting Technology more

Exactly what I was looking for 8/3/2009

I walked out of Ata with a bike that suited me so well that I can scarcely bring myself to take days off from riding. Originally I had gone to Ata to fit my previous bike, but after the fit analysis, it was determined that modifying my bike to suit my frame was unlikely to resolve the issues I was having with knee, back, and lower arm pain. I was set-up with a new frame and components to better fit my frame. I was impressed with the number of considerations taken into account when suggesting a new frame including height, proportion, weight, mileage, flexibility, and some others I am sure I am forgetting. To me this proved I was working with a professional and knowledgeable people who were working to get me on a bike that is best for me. Originally I held some reservation about buying a bike I hadn't even ridden, but after researching the bike online and talking to a number of other people who have been to Ata, I decided to trust their analysis and go with their suggestions. I have gotten far more value out of this bike than I expected. The pain in my joints and back is no more. I had always thought these were the same pains everyone experienced when riding. I have been shown a different path and now I ride faster, more efficiently, and longer. I still feel pain, but its sole source is mashing my gears till my quads want to burst and my lungs are ragged. I couldn't even get to ride this hard before because it hurt my joints too much. At this point it has been about 8 weeks since I bought the bike and I ride every chance I get. I am attribute my riding satisfaction to Ata taking the time to get me on the right bike for me. Pros: Experienced staff, state of the art fit capabilities more
