Our meal began as a huge disappointment, but improved somewhat throughout the night. We started off with the Lobster potstickers and Tuna tartare. The potstickers had been fried...

A Positive Assault on the Senses 6/21/2002

As visitors to San Francisco, we loved Asia de Cuba and the Redwood Lounge! Great people watching, delicious & unique food, and hip music. Highly recommended. more

Not good as NYC and LA 6/17/2002

I have been asia de cuba in NYC and LA. San Fran one is definitely the worst. The food was tasteless, the waiter was snobby. Also, I hate the decoration of San Fran's asia de cuba. It' so dark and loud as hell. NYC and LA ones are more relaxing, bright and roomy. more

DON'T BELIEVING THE HYPE 6/16/2002

Food there not worth the money! We ordered everything the waiter recommended, 3 appetizers, 1 entree, and a bottle of wine. First off the tuna-tar-tar ($18) was very bland, the lobster/crab potstickers ($28) weren't bad but honestly potstickers taste better at San Tung ($6) and our last appetizer was the shredded duck wraps ($22) that tasted like horrible sweetened carnitas. For our entree we had the Halibut fish, which was actually decent, and a very good bottle of wine ($58). All in all, waiters were very courteous but the restaurant food sucked. But the bar section was comfortable and very enjoyable. If you get the chance, stare at the pictures in the bar room. Pros: Ambience, Service, Wine selection Cons: Expensive, Bad Food, OVER RATED more

Asia de Fabulous! 5/28/2002

A friend visiting from out of town and I decided to try something glamorous and voted for Asia de Cuba. We chose well. The staff was extremely friendly - and we didn't have a reservation. We were seated immediately at a gorgeous, backlit, mirrored, cross-shaped, bistro-height, community table. Our server was sweet and cute and very helpful in explaining the menu and suggesting drinks. The grandeur of the whole place was breathtaking. And the community seating was rather pleasant. I think everyone at the table had a better time than the small, individual table sat people. I would recommend those tables for a romatic date. This place gets big kudos. Pros: Ambience, Service, Mixed Drinks Cons: Expensive more

Feel Cool 5/20/2002

It's quite a scene, this Asia de Cuba. The high ceilings and plush furniture only cultivates the feeling. The group seating doesn't feel cheesy, you can actually talk to folks and not feel weird. But some foods are just not meant to be put together on the same plate. And many of the combinations just fizzle into mush that could have been just fish or pasta for all my tongue could tell. Servers are great, and helpful with such a wacko menu (portions are part of the reason for the prices). So go check it out, but do it w/someone else's credit card, and be willing to wait. Pros: Vibe, Service, Sociable crowd Cons: Price, Wait to get in more

A Little Salty 5/16/2002

I must say I enjoyed the windowless ship's brig that is Asia de Cuba for what it was, though I wish it had jettisoned it's formal pretensions and gone for straight hiptitude. The food was okay, not worth the price, but my date was suitably tickled and I got the nookie so hey. If I wanted food I liked in a great atmosphere I could have stayed at home, but the experience worked itself out. The service was fantastic too. Go AdC! more
