Best

It's a great hotel but if any of you are looking to save some $$ then book it at goo.gl/FPxYD They have some of the best hotel deals on the web!

Worst

Our meal began as a huge disappointment, but improved somewhat throughout the night. We started off with the Lobster potstickers and Tuna tartare. The potstickers had been fried...

Horrible Food but Great Service...go ELSEWHERE! 4/2/2006

There are 3 key areas of a fine dinning experience: great service, great ambiance and MOST importantly great food. Asia de Cuba DOES NOT MEET 2 OF THESE 1 - Food is not worth 1/3 of the cost 2 - Tables are so close your private romantic dinner is shared with everyone else. The decor and scene very trendy. 3 - Service very good My tip go there for a drink and use the same amount of money for a real dinning experience. (Try Gary Danko) Pros: Service Cons: Tables too close, Overpriced food more

Fantastic 3/15/2006

So I read the other reviews before going to Asia de Cuba this past Tuesday and all I can say is that those people are crazy. The service was stellar. Not only was our server knowledgable about the food and the wine he was very helpful in navigating us through the history of CLIFT. The food was delicious. The Beef Shortribs melt in your mouth, the Lobster Mash is sinful and the Cielo de Coco is the not only the largest dessert I have seen but the best. I highly recommend that you experience this restaurant at least once. It is phenominal from the time you walk in to the time you leave. Pros: Service, Lobster Mash, Ambiance Cons: I can't go everyday more

Yummy 3/15/2006

WOW... the first words out of your mouth and the last. Absolutely great from start to finish. Pros: Everything Cons: Nothing more

disappointing 3/11/2006

Picture it: throbbing music that you have to shout over to be heard as it vibrates the chair you are sitting in, insultingly overpriced entrees that you are encouraged to share but come to the table sized for 1, mediocre food whose elaborate presentations mislead you into thinking they'll actually be tasty. Too bad this restaurant will always be full with out-of-towners who don't know any better. Cons: food, prices more

terrible 1/14/2006

The food was overpriced and the service was terrible. You would think the dine about town special would be a nice way to introduce their restaurant but it was not up to my expectations. I heard great reviews from friends about this restaurant only to find it a so so place. How can you service cold food that's overcooked, have no presentation, and charge so much? more

Highly Over-Priced, Average Food, So-So Service 12/20/2005

Our small group knew of the high prices going in, and would have been forgiving if the food lived up to the expense, but it was average at best. And, if the service were stellar, we could have justified some of the expense. But, the service was nothing special. Definitely not the level that you would expect with $30 entrees and $12 cocktails. The biggest insults: - $42 tab for WATER that they kept pouring but never mentioned a cost or even asked if we wanted more (would they open another bottle of wine before asking?) - 25% automatic tip for groups (which borders on stealing, even for above-average service). Bottom line: Asia de Cuba is an extremely over-priced restaurant with average food and so-so service. In a foodie city like SF, with so many better options, there's absolutely no reason to visit this restaurant. Pros: Lobster mashed potato, Creative cocktails, Neat space Cons: EXPENSIVE, Average all around, Bad lighting more

Will go for a drink but never for food 11/12/2005

I went to Asia de Cuba with 5 other friends and thought we would have a enjoyable dinner. The food is really bad and I'm normally very forgiving so long the ambiance is good. What a waste on a great ambiance. The service was ok, our server was a bit superficial. I've been in the restaurant business for over 15 years own and I'm very forgiving on service as well but our server was not good. more

I loved it! 8/22/2005

I've been to Asia de Cuba twice for lunch and have loved it! The place is spectacular and the ambiance very good. The food was incredible! Not only authentic as far as the Cuban plates go (I'm Cuban so I should know) but also creative with some unexpected twists. They also serve a lot of food. I have never been able to finish a plate there having to take a doggie bag every time. The service has always been attentive and dedicated with a grandiose entrance for each plate. Granted, it is pricey but the experience is unforgettable. Especially the banana/coconut cake which is to die for!!! Pros: nice place, awesome food, great service Cons: parking, price more

DO NOT GO!!!!!! 12/9/2004

I am in the restaurant buisiness, and this has to be the absolute WORST dining experience I have EVER had! Not only was the food horrible & made absolutely no culinary sense, the service was exceptionally bad (throwing plates down, and demanding that we order b/c he was busy). We were a party of 8, and our server added items to our bill that were never asked for or served! You would think that an $850.00 later (not including gratuity) we would get proper service and food. They also add 20% to your bill & you are TAXED on it! Gratuity is optional or ""suggested"", for larger parties and when service is this bad YOU DON""T GET A TIP! more

Great Experience 7/20/2004

I dined with six friends in Asia de Cuba, and we were all pleasantly surprised by the amount of food, the quality and creativity of the food, and the amount of the bill. We all drank freely, from specialty martinis to wine to sangria, and ate until we had to be rolled out of the restaurant, and still wound up paying around $70 each. For a long, sumptuous, and decadent dinner (and a nice little buzz) this place is fantastic. The host also booked us a table at the Redwood Room, which was great. Pros: atmosphere, great food, service more

Lunch is insulting 6/30/2004

Stopped in for lunch only to find the food tremendously overpriced, underseasoned, and cold. They seemed to have a salisbury steak on a bun for eighteen bucks. Upon ordering the cuban steak sandwhich the entirely attentive and competent server asked for a temperature. I ordered Mid Rare, the sandwhich arrived mid well and cold as well. As for my companions they agreed the food was terrible especially after paying 180 dollars for lunch for four. The space is breathtaking, really incredible, I just wish the food was as good. Pros: Service, Design Cons: , Price more

Not worth it 6/18/2004

The food here is just so-so. It is outrageous that they charge so much for food that can be overcooked, dry, and just very plain. The only reason to go here is the scene. The service is OK, but certainly not good enough for this expensive of a restaurant. Pros: Scene Cons: , Price more

You'll be SORRY! 5/21/2004

The food was not impressive. Small portions, high prices for food that was not worth it. We had lousy service as well. Kept having to ask that our glasses of water be refilled. This for $70/person! more

Not worth it! 4/4/2004

If you don't mind listening to booming hip-hop during dinner than you'll like Asia de Cuba. The food and service are just so-so, but if you're seated at the tables next to the Redwood Room bar you might as well be eating your expensive meal in a club. more

Not Good 2/18/2004

I had a chance to spend over $170.00 for a Valentines day meal at Asia de Cuba. The food was absolutely horrible. The ambiance and service were however good. Just thought I would share my experience with others who are considering dining at this establishment. You are better off visiting for cocktails. Pros: Ambiance, Service Cons: , Price more

so less for so much money 1/20/2004

we have been there for lunch in connection with the 'dine about town' promotion as a party of six. The food was probably re-heated, and was presented in a lunch box format. There was a strong smell of overused frying oil in the fried items. I do appreciate that we did not pay the full price, but still, I think this is a disgrace for such an institution. more

Super pricey 1/11/2004

For a place that charges $20+ for appetizers, $30+ for dinners, and $15+ for desserts, I was expecting a lot more. I was a bit surprised by the ""family style"" dining concept in a place like this... For three of us they recommended 1-2 appetizers and 2 dinners to share. Even though portions on some of the dishes were sizeable, I could have handled a main dish by myself easily. I must say the banana creme cake was heavenly even though it was $16! The atmosphere is fantastic with the high ceilings, long velvet drapes, dark wood and romantic lighting. It seems to have that L.A. type scene as well and I noticed several tables of ""older gentlemen"" with much younger ladies. I just can't see spending this kind of money when there are SO many choices for restaurants in the city of the same quality for half as much. Pros: atmosphere, service Cons: expensive!, L.A. scene more

Extremely Disappointing! 12/27/2003

We had an 8:00 reservation for Christmas and weren't seated until 8:40. It then took at least 10 minutes for someone to acknowledge us. The service was awful, except for our server, Byron, who tried to make things better with a couple of glasses of champagne. Our water glasses were not filled and plates were not cleared. Definitely not worth the prices. We even spoke to the manager early on about our waiting. Later in the evening he walked by and didn't even ask how our dinner was going - very unprofessional! Pros: atmosphere Cons: poor service, unprofessional more

Food was good 11/8/2003

A lot of reviewers of Asia de Cuba tend to forget what it's all about. The food. And on our recent visit, the food was simply outstanding! Especially the lamb and the duck were simply delicious. The service was very professional and we had no waiting times at all. Anyway, what has Valet parking to do with rating a restaurant? Park in a garage nearby for much less and have a stroll over Union Square after your dinner. Pros: Decor, Redwood Room Cons: Loud more

Won't be returning to A de Cuba. 9/2/2003

Our meal began as a huge disappointment, but improved somewhat throughout the night. We started off with the Lobster potstickers and Tuna tartare. The potstickers had been fried at some point in the night, but by the time we received them, they were rubbery and cold. The tuna was bland, although it had an interesting presentation. Neither was worth finishing. Our meals were moderately better -- the Cuban Chicken was, again, bland but nicely presented. The Lamb had some interesting spices, and was markedly better than the chicken entree. Dessert was definitely the high point -- the Cielo de Coco was a wonderful coconut cake that we combined with the recommended (fabulous!) Bermudan rhum. Overall, the cake and booze was the high point (good wine selection, great rum). Maybe thats why we got progressively happier with our meal?? Pros: decor, ambience, location Cons: quality of food, speed of service, prices more
