June 2010, good soup, bad meat, service not so great 6/18/2010

Visited this restaurant on a slow Thursday night.\r \r the broth of the soups was very good, veggies ok, dumplings were good too.\r \r BUT, non of the meats edible, tasted bad, previously cooked and frozen, ie not fresh. Seems to be a pattern among many(but not all) of our Asian restaurants in the area that this practice is acceptable.\r \r The service was not good either. had to ask twice for initial soft drink order. too busy texting on her smartphone.(yes, I'm serious)\r \r Unfortunately, we won't be returning to this place.\r \r sorry..... Pros: nice brothy soups and home made dumplings Cons: previously frozen chicken, beef and pork more

Not impressed 6/22/2009

Went for pickup after a friend really, really recommended this place. I was excited to know that I could get my dose of Pad Thai close to work. But halfway through my overcooked noodle dish, i find this one long hair in my food. Very unatractive and definitely turned me off from ever going back. Pros: Cute place Cons: Overcooked noodles and hair on my food! more

Lovely and light dishes 1/30/2009

My husband and I got take-away from Angkor last night and were delighted. The nime chow was fresh, with crisp vegetables and perfectly sweet shrimp. The shrimp rolls were nicely flavored and the dough was light and crisp. The bee boong with shrimp was perfectly done! The noodles were soft, the sauce was velvety and the vegetables and shrimp were perfectly cooked; still with a bit of a bite to them. My husband loved the hot basil in lemongrass with beef;he spices were perfectly balanced and it was hearty and satisfying without being too rich. We cannot recommend this restaurant enough. In fact, we may return to dine in tonight! Pros: Quick take-aways, delicious food, good value for money, great location. Cons: Can't think of any! more

Amazingly delicious Cambodian food! 12/20/2008

I'm a very picky eater, but I was totally wowed by the food served in this restaurant. Without a doubt, it's the best Asian food I've had in Providence ... in fact, it's the best food I've had in Providence!\r \r We had Lot (baby egg rolls), which was authentically South-east Asian, hot and crispy, and very reasonably priced. Tiger cry, beef salad was absolutely yummy, with generous portions of beef, finely shredded carrots, onions, etc., and a deliciously tangy, slightly sweet and sour sauce. Green curry in coconut milk came with juicy, succulent shrimp, eggplant, bamboo shoots, and string beans - each ingredient had the perfect consistency (the shrimp was tender, the string beans were slightly crispy without being undercooked). The street noodles were hearty and delicately flavored. We finished our meal with dessert specials of the day - taro and coconut custard, and mango mousse - which were smooth, creamy, and flavorful.\r \r The quality of the food alone would have me coming back for more. As a bonus, prices are very reasonable, and our server was extremely friendly and efficient. Give it a try ... I guarantee a superb dining experience! Pros: Delicious food with very fresh seafood and produce, excellent service Cons: None that I can think of more

Great Food and Customer Service 7/6/2008

The staff at Angkor restaurant are really friendly and very very helpful. They love suggesting amazing Cambodian dishes, all of which are very tasty and well prepared. The atmosphere is real nice and the food comes out quick and hot. For those who are new to Cambodian food, it is similar in taste to Vietnamese and Thai, but has its own unique flavor. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough, way better than your standard Chinese joint. Prices are very reasonable and portions are generous. Pros: Great food and great service Cons: not a very romantic atmosphere, casual and comfortable more

Most Gracious Restaurant 3/9/2008

This is my new favorite neighborhood restaurant. I have ordered take-out from Angkor several times and will keep coming back. The street noodles are addicting. And I was floored by the true warmth of the service--so rare here in the northeast. This place deserves every star. Pros: Exceptional service and delicious food more

Top shelf!! 3/6/2008

Hmmmmm... My sole reservation in writing a glowing review of Angkor is that so many people may discover this little gem that I'll never again find a seat. But, here goes: It's difficult to say whether the food or the service is better at this wonderful, cozy, laid-back, fantastic eatery in Fox Point. The most cordial owners and servers you'll find at any restaurant -- it truly matters to them that patrons are happy -- and food to keel over on. Well, don't do that. (How messy). The basil-lemon grass with chicken is the best dish anywhere -- vegetables firm, chicken succulent, flavoring perfect, temperature just right. The tea was hot and plentiful, coffee was great. And the owners, all family, are friendly and attentive. They deserve all the best in their fairly new endeavour. I immediately felt more like kin than stranger. So, go, but be sure to leave me a seat. Promise? I've always had luck parking around Wickenden Street but it can be tricky. Don't let that stop you. Pros: Friendly, attentive owners, exceptional made-to-order food. Cons: None, except too many patrons will mean I don't find a seat. more

The best Cambodian food in Providence! 2/16/2008

There are a few delicious places to eat authentic Cambodian food in Providence, but this newish, family-run gem is my absolute favorite because the service is wonderful, the prices are unbelievable, the atmosphere is warm, clean and quiet, and most importantly, the food is just heavenly. Plus they sent us free dessert last time! Anyway, become a regular now before the crowds discover it. more

Great, cheap, and cozy Cambodian - BYOB! 1/10/2008

This place is great - not super-fancy, but the decor is nice, tasteful, clean, and not cheesy. The staff was very friendly and attentive (seemed like they actually cared if I enjoyed my food!), and it looked like there was enough space to accommodate a pretty good crowd (I went on a quiet weeknight). We had a nice $6 appetizer (crispy shrimp - freshly made and not greasy) and a couple of noodle dishes that were about $9 per (""street noodles"" were sweet and easy to eat and ""crispy noodle special"" was delicious and very pretty), so I would judge this place to be a cheaper alternative to most of the area pan-Asian places (i.e. Sawadee, Apsara, Pankarang, O-Cha) that somehow justify charging $12 for a dish of green curry and sticky rice amidst less-hospitable surroundings. They also offer complimentary hot tea when you sit down and a serving of Cambodian rice pudding to end the meal...even if you don't like the pudding, it shows that they actually care about you. This place is also BYOB, meaning you can bring a nice bottle of wine, a nice six pack of IPA, or a case of Keystone if you're into that sort of thing. Parking could be a pain (we walked), but the same could be said for almost anywhere in Providence that doesn't have it's own lot.\r \r I will say that I had really low expectations for this place and was totally surprised...I was expecting, at best, a decent take out place (thinking the restaurant would be dingy and depressing), but what I got was a wonderful, affordable, and comfortable restaurant that will keep me coming back. Though I'm a fairly adventurous eater, I would say that if you're a fan of Chinese food (or Thai food) you won't have any problems finding something here. Seriously, please try this place. I am going to be very upset if no one goes here and this little gem closes down after only a few months. Pros: Affordable, Nice Staff, Variety of dishes and price ranges, BYOB Cons: Lack of parking (same for all of Wickendon street) more

Absolutely recommended 12/15/2007

Tis is a really good family-run place - wonderful atmosphere, warm and welcoming. \r We were very happy with the service and the food was tasty and comforting.\r We took a sweet and sour shrimp soup that was great and a rice dish, (can't remember the name, sorry!) that was also very good - the chicken tender and well dressed.\r Definitely will visit this place again. more

Great Southeast Asian food! 12/9/2007

We went for lunch on Saturday. Terrific food! The crispy shrimp appetizers and tom yum soup were outstanding. It's family run with friendly and informative service, and reasonably priced. Pros: Great tasting, beautiful food. Friendly and helpful service. Cons: Always tough parking on Wickenden St. more
