Whenever I'm in San Francisco I go there at least once. I went there for the first time 5 years ago and I keep coming back. It's always just fantastic. The food, the service, the...

My fisrt impression as I walked in was well, impressive. The food on the other hand could use a little work. It's tasty, but I think the atmoshpere leads you to expect more from t...

A splurge for sure 7/27/2006

Beautiful location, beautiful restaurant, beautiful food and drink presentation. Definitely a place to take a special date or impress out-of-towners. Not for the faint of pocketbook, though - a few entrees and some cocktails can set you into next week's paycheck. Great service, though. You pay a little bit more than what you get, but it's a must-try at least once. This place has it down to an art. Pros: Location, ambiance, service Cons: Parking, pricey more

Seamless service, awesome food and a personal touch 7/19/2006

It was my first anniverysary and I made reservations thru opentable. I asked for a quiet table which we were given. I love the service -- everything arrives right on time. Waiters come and go without stumbling over each other and making a scene. We had the price fixe meal and everything was utterly delicious. The topper was when our dessert arrived -- a plate with happy anniversay written on it. May sound cheesy, but it made our visit all the more memorable. Drinks and music are great too. Pros: Service, Food Cons: Parking more

Cool Ambience, Decent Taste 3/29/2006

Ana Mandara is definitely reserved for Special Occasions. Keep in mind that you go largely for the ambience, the food being important but secondary. I've been there 5 times now, with large and small groups. Yes, the prices are exorbitant and the portions are a bit small but the food is presented beautifully enough and tastes adequate enough to justify the visits. Compared to Tamarine in Palo Alto (the only other true, upscale Vietnamese restaurant), AMandara probably wins by a small margin because their interpretation of Vietnamese cuisine is more unique and their restaurant decor is more sleek and inviting. Pros: Ambience, Cool Presentation Cons: Expensive, Taste OK only more

One of my favorites 3/24/2006

I've been here several times and have never been disappointed. I'd consider the food more of a ""fusion"" menu, and all of it is great. The service is also fantastic (there is one waiter in particular whose name escapes me who will always recommend the night's top dishes on the menu- take his advice! he is completley correct). And, if you go upstairs after dinner for drinks or dessert, you can often catch some very good live music. Great date spot, very good food, and a fun but not overly trendy ambience. Highly recommended. Pros: Food, service, ambience Cons: a little overpriced more

Come for the ambiance and bring a fat wallet 3/6/2006

Being that I am Vietnamese, my boyfriend took me to Ana Madera for a romantic evening and to savor vietnamese-fusion cuisine. I was very impressed by the architecturally artful and beautiful dining area and the attentive waitstaff. However I really did not find much vietnamese-ish cuisine on their menu. In fact I would call it over-priced-french-fusion cuisine! The food was above average but if you are looking for a nice romantic spot this is truly the place. Pros: romantic ambiance Cons: expensive more

Fine Vietnamese Dining and Lounging 2/26/2006

I'm always on CitySearch for restaurant/lounge suggestions. I've never written a review before, but can't deny that Ana Mandara and the Cham Lounge are absolutely worthy of one. I agree, the food is expensive, but remember you are also paying for the ambience, service, and menu selections. If it's not in your budget, please don't go. The dishes are very tasty. I've dined there at least five times and appreciate the service. The cocktail selections are delightful. The lounge seating is inviting. It's such a cool and pretty place to be. The bartenders are attentive. The sommelier is knowledgeable and easy to talk to. The bartender, Ryan, is the best! more

Great Date Spot 2/1/2006

My boyfriend and I went here for our anniversary. The ambiance, food, and service are top-notch and we would definitely come back again. It's the perfect place to go on a date because you could always walk over to Ghirardelli Square right after. more

Not Worth the Moolah 10/28/2005

While the ambiance was exotic and the service efficient, I have to give Ana Mandara a poor rating as the food was terrible and grossly overpriced. The meats did not taste fresh and the flavors and textures were not thought out. Complete tourist trap. Pros: ambiance Cons: price, food more

Wonderful Setting For All Occasions 10/1/2005

Our group of 5 were thrilled with our experience at Ana Mandara. We enjoyed fabulous, fresh and unusual cocktails in the upstairs bar before dinner. Sharing the appetizers, entrees and desserts inspired our appreciation while the magnificaent interior created a romantic setting. Our waitor was quite informed and perfectly attentive. We all enjoyed the wine selection and left feeling uplifted, happy and absolutely satisfied. We all intend to return and will recommend to friends. Thanks! Pros: Service, Food and drink, Atmosphere more

Perfect evening 9/29/2005

Entering the resteraunt from a busy day at the office and a struggle fighting the traffic, i was immediately relaxed by the beautiful setting of a dreamy vietnamese courtyard at dusk. Live jazz music came from the upstairs balcony and bar area. My party and I were treated like royalty by the excellent service staff. Our waiter was charming, sophisticated and knowledgeable about every aspect of the fine menu. I fully recommend this oasis of elegance. Pros: Service, Atmosphere, Cuisine Cons: Location more
