Bait and switch pricing. Just there and after paying between $26 - $29 for a blowout over the past three weeks, on 6 different occasions, this time they charged me $40. I didn't think I had to confirm the price since I have been so often lately and I have been on the weekend. When I protested she called the police. No one showed up and I had to pay to get out of there. Yolanda is nasty. Too bad a neighborhood place scams their customers. more

At first I was a little skeptical about this salon because they have so may locations that that been closed or failed due to poor management and ownership. But the Other day I was walking by and saw what an appeared to be a new addition to this... chain. A handsome, what looks like friendly guy through the window...? I was in intrigued by the way he was using his hands, very confident with no wasted movements. I sat on it for the night and decided to call the next day and make an appointment with this man who I had seen through the window. To find out later his name is Matthew :) more

I've been coming to this location for about 4 years, and Nikki has been my colorist, stylist and life saver, and a ""one-stop-wonder"". Let's first talk color... Never in my life have I been so happy with my color (red, but SO natural!). I have been getting compliments since the first time Nikki touched my hair, without fail she goes above and beyond. People not only love the color, but they think it's mine! Now on to styling... As someone with curly hair, I'm very sensitive to the cut... It can go wrong so easily. But Nikki gets my hair, she understands the curls and what I like. It's like she reads my mind! And now that I've been coming to Nikki every 5-7 weeks for the past 4 years, she's also become my friend. She provides laughs, she's accommodating, I trust her fully and I know I'm in great hands... And my experience wouldn't be nearly what it is without Laura who washes, massages and completely takes care of me. She's also great with applying color! Now, if you're not able to get Nikki, Mary is amazing (she's filled in on blowouts when Nikki was booked) and Becky does an AMAZING up do/blow out (seriously top notch and is loads of fun!). All in all, I've sent people here and will continue to do so. Cheers to all who make us so beautiful!! more

I feel like the best way to describe my experiences here are very inconsistent, but based on last night's visit, I am less disappointed than TRAUMATIZED. I had popped in a couple of years ago and got a cut that I was very happy with and then a few months later tried again, with a different stylist and was disappointed. I didnt return for years, but I decided to try again for a simple blow dry before I went on vacation a couple of weeks ago. The woman I was with did an amazing job, my hair was full and gorgeous! HOWEVER, I called yesterday to try to get an appointment with the same person, for the same service and she was out of town, so nervously I agreed to try someone new. This is when it took a turn for the worse. Upon entering I was ushered towards a young man with braces that was slumped over in his chair (so unprofessional) before realizing he had a client. He asked me to step in to his office (cheesy) and reviewed my hair. I told him that I just wanted a blow dry and he took some of my hair in a comb and said ""your cut is uhhh interesting, I think you need a trim"". I get my hair cut a very reputable salon downtown, and like the style very much, I was offended, espescially because I DIDN'T ASK for a cut or his opinion, just a blow dry! So, he took me to the shampoo area and did a decent, but very aggressive washing and conditioning. Afterwards the aggressiveness got worse as he ripped through my, long, fragile, color treated hair, with a flat brush. I could litterally feel hair being ripped from my scalp, there was zero finesse or regard for my comfort. I had said that I wanted a lot of body and he said ""you want a little but not too much"" Ok....So he takes the biggest barrel brush I'd every seen (may as well have been a paddle brush) and took huge section of hair ripping and rushing through them furiously. My hair was completely straight and flat (this is what I can achieve on my own). Pleased with his work and noticing his next ""victim"" was waiting he replied ""ok princess you're done"". Umm, ewe! It was one of the least relaxing, least satisfying salon experiences I have ever had, the only upside was that I didn't need to set my alarm this morning because my throbbing scalp had me up by 5:30. Long story short, proceed with caution, be very careful which stylist you see here. more

A new resident to New York City, I was walking in the streets of Manhattan with my frizzy, discolored hair when I noticed a woman walking down the block with BEAUTIFUL color, cut, and texture. Although not knowing the area too well, I immediately went up to this woman; I had to know where she got her gorgeous hair done. She recommended JODI from AMOUR DE HAIR, a friendly, experienced, and fabulous colorist who knows precisely what looks and feels best for each individual person. I immediately made an appointment for the first time last week, and having just got back today from my first experience, I must say that JODI is truly an amazing stylist and colorist. My hair's color is beautiful and natural and the cut brings out the best facets of my hair. Not only is she talented, but she also listens to exactly what you want and one can completely trust in her abilities. I recommend Jodi to any woman or man who is looking for great hair, color, cut, or just a simple style. SHE IS AMAZING. more

I don't understand the people that gave this place bad reviews. It's a hair salon on UES not a plastic surgeon's office. If you are unattractive when you walk in, guess what genius: you will still be unattractive when you walk out but with nicer looking hair. I have been their client for many years now and am very happy with their service and especially my stylist Mary. She truly is a hair goddess. A very talented colorist as well as hairdresser. If you can secure an appt with her you will not be disappointed, I guarantee. They just underwent a renovation and the place looks nicer. The current receptionist Yolanta is a sweetheart and very professional. The ladies that wash the hair are very good as well, they give the best scalp massages. :) The reviewer tmousewins seems to have a bone to pick with the owner!? I have met him a few times and he is very nice. What kind of business owner who has been in this trade for many years would have survived especially on the UES if he was an a$$hole? And if they as this reviewer said swindled her/him then why did you even pay? Noone is twisting your arm to pay at the end if you are dissatisfied with the service. If you sit there without opening your mouth while somebody is ""raping"" your hair than you are a dumba$$ who deserves to be swindled. In conclusion folks, I highly recommend this salon. Its clean, nice and prices are reasonable. more

This salon is terrible! Don't go here!! Especially to Fior. She will cut your hair NOT the way you want, and just keep trying to fix it by chopping it off.. Especially don't let her give you hair extensions. She is horrible at it--I got them--they lied to me and told me Id need 50 pieces only. But really I needed 150. They will swindle you and take your money. The hair extensions didn't even look good and they fell out at an alarming rate!! About 30 pieces a week! Even the front desk staff is so rude and gives dirty looks and has such an attitude The owner of this salon is an A@#@#$%! There is no reconciling with these people or getting your money back. They lie. Period. more

I went to Amour de hair week ago and I was pleasantly surprised by the incredible service and wonderful atmosphere. Ange colored my hair. I was really happy with the results and I will definitely be going back for my next hair-cut and color. more

I went there to dye my hair blond. I said golden blond. Not white, not orange, I want golden blond. So first they decided to make my hair even brown, I already wanted to leave. Then they added a lot of highlights ? now ? I am stripy. I have brown hair with white stripes in it. My hair looks like I am a prisoner ? Stripes. They don?t even listen if you say something and they won?t stop talking. The process to turn me into stripy took 4 hours and they made me pay $230 for that shit. Now I have to find another hairdresser who will actually make me blond. Don?t go there!!! Pros: The worst more

I got my cut and color at 1052 3rd ave btw 62nd - 63rd. Stylist tayla made me look like a movie star.she's very professional and very artistic I highly recommed her. I LOVE MY HAIR... I can't wait for my next appointment!!!! more

Pino initially helped me grow my hair out. The first few cuts I received from him were good. However, I asked him to help me fix another bad cut I received from a different stylist, but instead of telling me to wait with a cut, he just took my $110 and made my hair worse. I cannot wear it down anymore and it is so layered that I need to either get extensions or chop it all. He should have just told me to wait. It is not right to treat long term clients like this. I came back a few days later to complain, and the least he could have done is returned the money. I am not going back, ever. Now I just need to find somebody who will help me fix my mullet when it grows out. I am mortified with my new look. MIght have had something to do with the fact that I turned him down when he asked to take me out. How about some class??? I don't go out with bisexuals period. AMOUR DE HAIR IS THE BEST!!!!! I love this place since i walked in first time! i were greeting by very nice and helpful receptionist who gave me a consultation with a stylist. After few minutes talking with my stylist i knew she really understands what i want!!! she gave me beatifful hair cut, recommend a protein treatment and now my hair is shiny as never before!! i also changed my color and now i feel like a million dollars!!! THANK YOU GUYS!!!!!!! more

Amour de Hair is one of the best salons i've ever been to. I have been going there for many years, and not once have I ever had an unpleasant experience. I have recommended this salon to all my friends and family. I have had experience with many of the stylists and they did their best to provide quality service. My hair cut by Niki was good but the hair dresser next to her was so loud speaking then another worker came over and my hairdresser and her spoke in another language over me for qute a while as she worked on my hair. Felt very uncomfortable and also they try to puch other srvcs on you, ex: use their color and get conditioning treatment. Very sales pushy.If the hair dressers are not busy they sit around and talk loud even across the room to one another, not very professional.
