Fantastic new salon downtown! 11/4/2008

I just made my first trip to Alter Ego and I was really impressed! The salon is sleek and stylish, the staff friendly and welcoming. Deevender cut and styled my hair perfectly, paying close attention to what I wanted and what worked for me. I will highly recommend her and Alter Ego to all my friends! more

Great Place for a Cut 10/30/2008

Alter Ego is an awesome place to get a hair cut no matter what you're looking for. I'm a pretty normal guy that just enjoys to get a hair cut/relax, and Alter Ego has been the perfect place to do that. The staff is personable and it's always easy to get an appointment that fits with your work schedule. If you're looking for a place to get a good haircut and hang out with cool people all for a decent place, Alter Ego is where it's at. more

Great cut, great experience 10/29/2008

My stylist of 6+ years moved from the area recently, leaving me to find a new stylist. After researching a bit online, I decided to try Alter Ego based on reviews. When I made my appointment- which you can also do online- I was referred to Trevor. I just got back from my appointment and I couldn't be happier. Trevor looked at my hair and made a recommendation for a cute new cut. What a difference. I absolutely love it and feel great. I'm one of those people that doesn't get their hair cut as often as they should. I have long, straight hair - what's the difference, right? Wrong! Alter Ego made a huge difference. more

Great Cut, Great Personal Attention, Free Samples! 10/22/2008

I've been to Alter Ego twice and I have recommended it to all of my co-workers and friends. The first time I got a pedicure. They don't have the ""spa foot bath"" or the massaging chair that other places have, but they make up for it with a reallllly good foot and leg massage and some good conversation. On my second visit, I got a hair cut and I was very pleased with the way my hair turned out. I didn't know what I wanted to do, but I wanted a change. Katelyn was very good at helping me figure out what I wanted by talking through what I liked and didn't like about previous cuts. Also, you get plenty of free samples when you go, and that's a good thing. Pros: free samples, discounts for referrals, convenient location, easy to book more

I think that every woman (and man) should spare no expense for two things in life - a great haircut and great pair of jeans. Everything else will fall into place! You wear your hair everyday - shouldn't it look fantastic? That being said, Alter Ego is an example of fantastic design (from the interior space, furniture, layout to the hair designs the stylists create) at a reasonable price. The salon is unpretentious, clean, and inviting. My stylist Hannah Miller is knowledgeable, friendly, and a whiz with scissors. She listens to your wants and needs and translates this into a fantastic cut, all the while constantly checking in to make sure the cut looks the way YOU want. Customer service at it's best! I recently went from a chin length edgy bob to a short pixie cut with no apprehension, because Hannah exuded such confidence - and sure enough, my hair is wonderful. I would recommend Alter Ego to anyone! It feels great to get a NYC haircut at a Raleigh NC price. Downtown is lucky to have Alter Ego! Great experience and fantastic setting - highly recommended 10/20/2008

I recently lost my stylist to retirement and was looking for another - I kind of stumbled across Alter EGO in city search for the triangle. The name kind of threw me off, I started thinking high brow, snobbish, snooty, etc. But I did call and Trevor answered the phone. He was sooooo nice, helpful and so I booked an appoint with him. He did a great job listening to me and assessing where I think I want to go as I transition from red to blonde highlighted hair. I thoroughly enjoyed what he did. I am glad I went because I did not experience anything close to snobbish in the salon - everyone was very sweet and attentive and wanted to make sure I was comfortable. My next appointment is this week and I can't wait to continue my transition to a new style and color. The studio has a wonderful open atmosphere and almost Zen feeling. more

Happy Hair 10/18/2008

I took a chance and made a last-minute appointment at Alter EGO. I received a terrible haircut at another salon just a couple of weeks ago and my hair was driving me nuts. Dee Dee did a great job of fixing my short style, even without lots of hair to work with. This salon is a great addition to downtown Raleigh and I'll be returning for sure. Downtown Raleigh needs.... 10/17/2008

As an operating manager of a cut and color salon in Raleigh. I applaud this salon for assisting in the re-vitalization of our great city! One would ask, why would a competitor write a good review? I have not personally seen the salon nor the quality of the work, however the ""look"" and marketing of the salon is what I know, having lived in several urban areas is desired and needed! Cream rises to the top, the best salons that offer great services as well as customer service will do great and will ultimately help other, like salons do well also. In turn this attracts more diversity into our city and a reason to be downtown! Keep up the good work and good luck in your grand opening. more

What a salon should be! 10/12/2008

Spending time at Alter Ego is more than just getting your hair cut!!! From the second you walk off of the elevator you feel like a million dollars! Everyone there is so kind, the salon is beautiful, and the quality of service is amazing!!!! Deevender cuts and colors my hair-she is amazing as what she does! As soon as you step foot into this posh salon, you're drawn into another world in which you are the center of rotation. The receptionists greet you with a smile and seem genuinely pleased to see you. Your stylist caters to your every need and ensures that you leave looking and feeling like Hargett Street is a runway. Not only is AlterEgo my new found oasis, but it's also my new addiction. more

It's hard to find a good salon, but look no further Alter EGO is just the place for you. When you walk in they greet you right away and get you settled in while waiting for your stylist. So I am very specific about who touches my hair (had a bad experience a few years back), and this is the best experience and cut i have had in almost 2 years! not only that, i love getting my toes done here. everyone is so nice and professional, giving you exactly what you want. and they are sure to ask ""is this what you had in mind?"". not only that, but that salon itself is so awesome. bright and airy- loft style space - its like a hidden hideout above the city. I had my very first visit on Saturday, with Hannah. I called to make an appointment, and she was able to work me in right away. She knew exactly what to do with my hair, and it is AMAZING now!! the atmosphere is wonderful, artistic, sophisticated, yet casual. very modern and beautiful. The customer service was absolutely great, and the prices are fair! I highly recommend Alter Ego to everyone!! Pros: very relaxed and friendly close to parking Cons: a little hard to locate. more

I just moved to Raleigh from Seattle and had to search for a new salon. This place is home away from home! I went in for a haircut and am going back for a color. This salon is owned by a mother and two beautiful daughters who all bring something important to the salon. The interior design is very elegant. They have great art up (a lot of is done by one of the owners) and I love the area with the big, comfy pillows where they perform the nail services. Hannah colored and cut my hair and I loved the way it turned out. You could definitely tell that she loves her job as she paid attention to detail and kept asking for my input. They seem really knowledgeable of all the new styles and use good cut techniques. I loved the way my hair turned out and even though I go to school three hours away I will not get my haircut again until I go back to Raleigh. more

When it comes to salons, I am incredibly picky. For me, the salon is often that place of respite disconnected from the rest of it all. Alter Ego's atmosphere is one of style and relaxation.
