I had been going to the same stylist for 3 years and it got to the point where I could never get an appointment so I decided to ""salon shop."" I tried several places until I came across Alter Ego. I recently relocated to Raleigh and was in need of a new hair stylist. I am very particular about my hair and was apprehensive about trying a new stylist and salon. I scheduled an appointment with Julia for a cut and color and was amazed at the results! My experience with Julia and Alter Ego was professional and enjoyable from start to finish. Julia not only listened to my hair goals and concerns, but encouraged us to discuss ideas and options together. Her level of talent can only be matched by her knowledge and friendly demeanor. I was so impressed that I immediately booked another appointment to see her! My hair has never looked this beautiful and healthy before and I could not be happier! I have received more compliments on my hair since I have been seeing Julia than ever before in my life. She is truly passionate about her work and strives to make her clients the top priority. To give some background, I have really long curly hair and have colored it several times in the past with mixed results. I have never come out of a salon happy with the results, and always have to go back to have it corrected or fixed. So i was very apprehensive before this appointment. I wanted to dye my hair a natural looking red (I have pale skin and blue eyes) and to cut a lot of dead weight off my hair and make the curls more boyant. I just had my hair done for the first time at Alter Ego this afternoon and just registered with Citysearch solely to write this review. I've lived in Raleigh for most of my life and have tried SEVERAL salons in the area, from the really well-known to the not-so-known. I was amazed at how positive the reviews for Alter Ego were. Being the slightly pessimistic person I am I was doubtful it could live up to what everyone was saying... but at least I knew it was worth trying. Calling for an appointment I was booked for a cut and highlight with Dana S. She not only asked me about my hair, my likes, dislikes etc.. but she gave me thoughtful input on how to improve my current style and why. After a few hours (I have fairly long hair) I was staring at the best version of myself I've ever seen. It was as if she knew exactly what I've always wanted my long hair to do but have never been able to articulate properly. My hair had incredible volume and movement, but it wasn't meticulously crafted into a style I'd never be able to recreate. Everything she did I'll be able to do tomorrow morning (using just a round brush and a blowdry, at that). I have light brown/dirty blonde hair that I've highlighted for years now to keep in the 'blonde' category. My color has never looked this dimensional or healthy. I'm sure you can tell I could go on.... but honestly you can't go wrong here. Alter Ego has opened my eyes. I still can't believe I've discovered a salon like this. Go! Try it! And yes... Alter Ego is THE best salon in Raleigh. I had a consult with Trevor, loved what he had to say and felt so comfortable that I got my cut and new style right on the spot. It is absolutely fabulous!!! I came back a few days later and Julia gave me a Brazilian Keratin treatment. My normally curly hair is now smooth, soft, and glowing. I have received more compliments on my hair in the past few weeks than I have in ten years. I love, love, love my ""new"" hair. I would highly recommend the Brazilian Keratin treatment! My hair now dries and styles in half the time it used to take and always looks healthy. All of the staff at Alter Ego is friendly, professional, knowledgeable and just plain cool. I recently moved to Raleigh and no longer had a stylist. I was walking around downtown one day and stumbled across Alter ego. They let me walk right in and get a haircut right away. Julia cut and colored my hair and then waxed my eyebrows. WOW! She blew me away!!! She listened to exactly what I wanted and made sure that I came out perfect! We had a a pedi party for my friend's birthday last night at Alter Ego. From the get go this place was so accomodating. They totally went out of their way to make sure we were accomodated and everyone enjoyed themselves. They made a great impression on me and all my friends. The atmosphere was super cool as well. I was offered a deal to come try a stylist for free so I did. Hannah was my stylist and she was great! I loved my haircut and my natural curl really comes out. I will definantly go back and be glad to the salon price for the haircut. Pros: Great stylist and cool place! Cons: have to pay to park downtown more

Absolutely wonderful. I had a last minute cancellation from my regular hair stylist--for my wedding. However, she recommended Trever, and now I recommend him to you. The morning of my wedding, Trever was on time (early, in fact, at 7:30 a.m. on a Saturday at that), kind, and just a general joy to be around. About 7 of my coworkers and I went to Alter Ego for various services one night. We were able to hang out together while we waited for our services away from the other guests. i absolutely swear by this salon, and by my stylist, drew. he is amazing. i've been a stylist for 6 years now and have worked for hair product companies where i've traveled and taught at salons throughout the entire southeastern US and i must say that drew is one of the most skilled and superb stylists that i've ever met or seen in action. i will never go to another stylist! he's got a great eye, awesome artisitic direction, and is always fun to be around! i always look forward to going to alter ego and having my drew time! :) book an appt now!! :) Pros: awesome downtown setting, very artsy, extremely nice staff more

Katelyn has been doing my hair for a few months now. She is uber creative and full of ideas to work with the client on what would be best for them. I have been living in Chapel Hill for 6 years, but I had never gotten my hair cut there until recently. I found Julia, and I don't think I will ever let anyone else cut my hair!
