I had the misfortune of visiting Alhambra Palace for NYE 2010. Standing outside in freezing weather for 20 minutes to get in after paying $120 for a ticket, waiting 20 minutes to get a drink, wasting half the night trying to get close to a bathroom, being treated rudely by the entire staff, horrible food...these were all minor flaws in the night.
Alhambra Palace provided 2 ""coat checks"" that night. At 1 am I returned to the coat check employee, gave her my ticket, and she returned to me and said, ""I don't have your coat."" There was no explanation to where the coat may have gone. There were no signs stating that Alhambra Palace was not responsible for any missing or damaged items. I talked to many employees asking to see a manager, but no one would help me. I was then told that the coats were taken to the 1st floor and thrown into piles on top of the tables. I went down to this room to find that there were coats thrown all over the room in no order, and that people were shuffling through them to find whatever they could. I went through all of the coats multiple times for a period of one hour to no avail. At this point a giant fist fight was occurring in the adjacent room in response to the coat situation. When asking employees what to do, I was told ""If you can't find your coat, take the next nicest one."" That is exactly what most people did, but I decided not to steal and left without a coat to go search for a cab in the 5 degree weather. I am still fighting the restaurant to have my $500 coat replaced.
The entire night was disgustingly negligent and a complete disregard for the belongings of paying customers. Managers and employees have been of no help even though they have admitted that they are at fault. I honestly believe the coat situation was an inside job, so if you don't want your things stolen, I wouldn't recommend going to Alhambra Palace.
Pros: The restaurant does look nice
Cons: Horrible food, horrible service, stolen belongings
