Lovvve it! 8/19/2011

I love this place! I have never had a better experience in a salon. Jinny gave me beautiful highlights and a sexy haircut. She was soo sweet and personable, it made my time at Alante very relaxing. I would recommend Jinny to any woman looking for a great hair services. The salon itself is cozy, friendly and the perfect place to people watch while your getting your hair done! :) more

Great Haircut and Price; Friendly, Attentive Owner/Stylist 4/15/2011

Before coming to Alante I tried to get my hair cut by a different shop/salon each time and eventually began to cut my own hair because I was never satisfied by the quality of the haircut for the price from Great Clips, Super Cuts, and Fantastic Sam's *shudder* When I finally discovered Alante, not only was I pleased with the cut but I was pleased to leave a tip as well. Young (the owner) listens attentively to what style you want and gives you what you ask for. In addition, she is interesting and friendly and we always have enjoyable and engaging conversations. Wide variety of services offered including colors, perms, etc. and experience with all types of hair. Other thoughts: When she washes your hair it is relaxing and soothing. (It took me a while to build up enough trust to let anyone besides myself ever wash my hair after being tortured by a Fantastic Sam's worker clawing at my scalp.) more

One of the best haircuts Ive had in the AUS!! 9/23/2010

Alante is a great place to go if you are looking for a clean, friendly and professional salon. Young who is the owner has been doing hair for a long time and her experience shows when getting your hair done. Also, stop in and get your eyebrows wax she is AWESOME!!. My roommate and I go to her specifically each time because in the past I have gone to Supercuts (they suck), Wootens barber (you wait too long!!) and the other salon near Hole in the wall (not a good experience!!). She supports UT students, and she even helps out the homeless. Alante is sensational!! check it out!! more

This was a nice salon and now it is a chop shop!! 6/1/2010

I graduated UT in 2007 and loved to go to Alante. When I started going Dave was the head stylist and did a great job. It changed owners and Cat cut my hair till I graduated and always did a great job. I was recently in Austin and stopped in for a cut and was surprised to see the prices were much lower and Cat was gone. I got my hair cut anyway and what a mistake!!! The lady was in a hurry and butchered my hair. My three year old boy could have done what she did. I left and went next door to Wooten Barber Shop and they fixed it the best they could. Basically if you are on the drag and need a cut go to Wooten or be prepared for 6 weeks of hell!! Never,Never Again!!! That lady MUST have written almost all of the reviews because this salon used to be great and now it just plain SUX!!! Waste of money even if it is cheap... Pros: On the drag and cheap Cons: terrible haircuts and no parking more

Great lady. Great cuts. Great prices. 4/8/2010

Ive tried a few salons on the drag, and this one is by far my favorite. The lady takes her time (unlike many others) to be sure she does the best job possible. She's very friendly, truly appreciates her customers, and has very decent prices (16$ for men). Highly recommend. Make sure you leave a tip: she totally deserves it. Pros: Young (the lady) more

Great Haircut, Great Price 3/23/2010

Young (the new owner) is terrific! She understands what is in style and takes into account your own style. My hair is very thick and difficult to cut but she handles it with ease. I can't speak for ladies, but the men's cuts are the best deal in town. The price is only a few extra dollars than pro cuts but you can most definitely tell the difference in quality. She will pay close attention to detail and ensure that your hair is cut cleanly (come here before an interview/date). Pros: cheap, convenient, better than supercuts more

Seriously honest opinion 1/15/2010

So... I took the reviews on here with a grain of salt. I thought, the person who was like ""she doesn't speak English rawrawrawr"" was just being ignorant. I thought she understood English perfectly. Yes, she has an accent and doesn't speak necessarily in proper English, but she's not dumb. The lady does however not cut your hair the way you ask for it exactly. I told her a length, and she cut it's a good inch and a half probably shorter than I expected it to be. She showed me a picture of Nicole Richie's bangs that she was going to cut like, and mine are nowhere near as heavy. She was very nice, but I don't think I'll come back. If you want a cheap hair cut, go to a beauty school and get it cut by students. They have to be cross checked by their instructor anyway. Pros: she can cut hair well Cons: she cuts it the way she wants it, not clean stations more

Wonderful Experience for a Wonderful Price 11/7/2009

As an employee at UT for many years I have had a myriad of experiences at the Alante salon as it is so close to campus. The current owner is talented, professional, and competitively priced - actually cheaper than others and she is better at styling hair. The salon is clean and comfortable. Young takes time to listen to the client, and uses color and cut to enhance the individual's appearance. She can do edgy or traditional looks - men and women. She is great!!! Give her talent a try!!! Pros: great fashionable styling, individual attention more

What an improvement! 9/8/2009

I think all that can be said about how Alante was before the owner switch has been said, but let me say, the new change is a welcomed one and a definite upgrade. I went back to Alante after vowing to never go back after I had a baaad haircut, and I was pleasantly surprised about how incredibly nice and polite the new owner is! She definitely knows how to style and cut hair, and even though my hair was just a bit too short for the new style I wanted, she was able to work with what I had and make it look exactly how I wanted in the picture. Also, the prices have been slashed in half. I went from paying around 55 for a bad haircut and mediocre service to a great haircut for only 25, including a wash. Alante is on the drag, so being primarily a student locale, the new prices are definitely a plus and student-friendly. I've seen some reviews saying this is an ""asian"" place, but I can't say that's true. Sure there are asian clients, I mean a big chunk of UT IS asian, but when I was there there was a mix of people coming in, and it definitely wasn't ""asian-only."" This isn't the Alante from before, and new Alante is a much better, friendlier, cheaper place to get your haircut than it ever was before. All the changes the new owner has made have been great changes, and Alante is headed in a great direction. Pros: cheap prices, great haircut, friendly & polite service Cons: I really can't think of any! more

Great Haircut 8/11/2009

I have been going to Alante for three years now, it has recently changed owners. The new owner is great, She is very friendly and always remembers exactly how I want my hair done, the prices are better, and you don't have to listen to her personal issues that she can't leave at home, which is more than you can say about the previous owner. I am not Asian, and my hair is very difficult to cut and it is hard to find a good stylist that knows how to cut it. I'm very pleased with Alante. Pros: Good prices, Nice employees, good haircuts Cons: Nothing bad to say more

Great haircut at a great price 7/29/2009

A couple of months ago I wandered into Alante kind of by accident. I'd been growing out a very bad, too-short haircut that I'd gotten at another salon a few months before; but I just couldn't handle how bad my hair looked anymore. Since Alante is very close to my workplace, I stopped in to see if anyone there could take me the same day and do anything to start to fix my awful cut. I spoke to Young (she's the owner, I think) and told her what the last ""stylist"" did wrong, and asked if she could fix it. She said yes, and I came back on my lunch hour. The mess I was trying to have repaired was so bad that I didn't have high hopes. What I ended up getting was one of the best cuts I've ever had! Young listened to me (exactly what the last ""stylist"" didn't do) and almost completely evened out the horrible layers from my bad cut! I didn't believe it was possible! I went back again a month later and she was able to totally erase the layers without removing any of the length I was trying to re-add! I am thrilled! That, plus the fact that it was the least expensive great haircut I've ever had means that I'll be a client for life! Pros: Really good cuts, very affordable, takes walk-ins Cons: None! more

Do not be tricked, Awful haircut 7/16/2009

For years my sister-in-law has cut my hair. When she moved I had to find a new place. I like Aveda and decided to find an Aveda salon. I came on city search and found this place and for the most part had great reviews. I called and the price or a cut was great, I thought I really found a deal! This salon is right in the heart of the drag. Great if you are a student already there walking, not so great if you are driving and have to find a parking spot. When I finally find the place it is really small and kind of dumpy but if they give good haircuts I don't care and not that this is necessarily a bad thing but all of the customers and staff were oriental. When I sit down in the chair I tell the owner what cut I want and I have 3 pictures to show her also. How can it go wrong? Well first thing she tells me is she is the new owner of the salon. Well great, none of the research or reviews I read means means anything now. During the cut I didn't think she was doing what I wanted her to do so kept asking her questions, trying not to be rude, about what she was doing. She would pick up one of the pictures look at it and say she was doing it right. Ok, fine, I'm not a stylist what do I know? By the time we got to the end of the cut I knew it was awful. It was about 4 inches shorter than I wanted and really not even the same style. I tried to get used to it but I was so disappointed I had to get it cut again at a different salon 2 days later. The new owner of Alante did my hair how she wanted it done. Do not be fooled by the good reviews, they are for a different salon than this one. Pros: inexpensive Cons: Stylist did not listen to me, no parking more

Best Place I have been to!!! 7/14/2009

This was my first time at this salon and I absolutely will continue to go back. I was not over charged and the manager knew how to cut my thick hair and style it so it did not look horrible. She also showed me tips on styling and was very talkative and curteous. She was amazing! I recommend this salon to all of my friends. I go to St. Edward's but this is worth the drive. Pros: Great manager, knew how to style my hairtype, was fast! more

Nice new look!!!! 3/14/2009

Been going here for some time - has a nice fresh look. Asked if it was new ownership - the lady said yes. Was very happy with the cut and it's much cheaper also! Pros: Right on the drag - close to UT more

My WORST haircut EVER 3/4/2009

To give him credit, if you get Donnie, he's great. I had him the first time I went. But when I went back the second time I got some asian lady stylist who didnt even speak english-it had to be told to her. She didn't do anything I asked for, did the one thing I specifically said NOT to do, and cut my hair waay to short. Pretty much she made it look like her hair, only worse. I don't care how convenient it is, I'm never going back. Pros: walk ins welcome Cons: NO stlying skill whatsoever! more

AMAZING HAIR! 10/15/2008

Don't let the size of the salon fool you. This salon has HUGE talent and personality. I went into the salon a poorly processed blonde and came out more excited about a hair cut and color than I have ever been. I have gone red, brunete, blonde and everything inbetween in many other salons. This is by far the best experience I have ever had. The foils were put in quickly and with extreeme care. The setting was relaxed and I never felt the awkward pressure of feeling like I had to create conversation with a new stylist. Everyone is extreemly easy to talk to. They know what is best fr your hair and wont let you walk away unsatisfied. LOVED EVERYTHING ABOUT IT! Pros: location, talented staff, there to please you Cons: small more

Sorry About The Last 3 Reviews!!! 10/13/2008

We take pride in our work here at Alante. I am writing because an ex employee is writing bad reviews about the salon out of spite.. I have not done any of the peoples hair that supposedly wrote the reviews. I do not have their names anywhere on the books in the past month. We have well over 10 years experience each and have always been very nice and personal to each client. I assure you we are a clean and friendly salon with great stylists. So if you are looking to update your style or just need to maintain a great look then Alante Salon is for you. We have been on Citysearch for a long time and never had any problems till we got rid of one. Thank You, Alante Salon Pros: Professional and Affordable more

A Real Drag of a Business 10/10/2008

This was by far the dirtiest salon I have ever been to. Whoever owns the business has really let the space go down hill. I moved to Florida and returned to Alante after 3 years away. I used to think this was the coolest little salon in austin. It has lost its charm, and I got a mediocre haircut by a guy named Donnie who didn't seem to care whether I was there or not. It is sad when you come back to a place that you loved only to find it stripped of all its charm. Pros: I can't think of any Cons: BIG DISAPPOINTMENT more

Meh 9/28/2008

I got my haircut by Cat a few months ago and while she gave me a pretty basic looking cut (not one of the best I've had), I loved the price. I planned on this place being the salon I'd go to when I just needed a trim but not for a new trendy cut. I recently went back to get my bangs trimmed for free (a guarantee from Cat) and was disappointed to find out that she left. I got my bangs trimmed by the owner instead. I requested side swept bangs but they looked more like they were cut to be straight across. The stylist didn't put much effort into making them look good -- somebody later asked me if I tried to cut them myself (wth). I didn't feel very welcome either. Maybe it was just the particular day I went? Any way, I don't plan on going back. more
