WORST EXPERIENCE EVER! DON'T BE A FOOL! STAY AWAY FROM THIS RIP-OFF ESTABLISHMENT! 6/11/2007

I have been to the best and the most expensive bar/restaurants in New York City and have never, ever been treated so poorly by an establishment who thinks that they are the upper class of the Meat Packing District. My first experience at the Buddha Bar was the worst you can ever imagine! Everything except for the decor, sucked! Everything from the food, the service, the drinks, the waitresses, and especially the management , were totally appalling, rude and unprofessional. One word of advice...Don't show up at this ""HELL HOLE"" if you are over 30, over 120 lbs, black or hispanic, gay or handicapped, not willing to pay $15 for a 1/2 glass of wine, or if you don't have a celebrity friend to come with you. The bouncers at the door pick and choose who they think fits their ""criteria"" and I saw them humilate people at the door by looking at them up and down and making them wait outside in the rain, while others who had just arrived were allowed in. One of the scenerios: My friends were at a table at 8:30 PM, I arrived at 9:30 PM. The waitress immediately took our drink orders, but failed to inform us that at 10:00 PM, you were going to be FORCED to buy a $200 bottle for the table or you would be asked to leave! We were practically attacked by the manager when we asked if he would show us one table at that moment that had a bottle and he got totally irrate. Since he couldn't find a table with one bottle on it, he began screaming and telling us that we should leave, because he had a larger party waiting! In the interim, we had just spent over $400 at this HELL HOLE and nothing to show for it! They have absolutely no class or etiquette and I will NEVER go there again!\r \r All I can say is, if you want to have a good time, good food, good service and value for your money, DO NOT GO TO THE BUDDHA BAR! Remember, you were warned! Pros: Decor Cons: EVERYTHING! more

Nasty bouncer Frank 6/2/2007

I have been there many time and I really love it! The atmosphere is awesome, the music, everything!!\r Unfortunately you have unpleasant people working at the door.. After many great memories, I was just disappointed last night after being treated in an unrespectful way by one of your bouncers (Frank). For no reason he just pushed me away. I was so sad afterwards that I just came home. I am really sorry for the whole team because I am sure that you never meant to hire someone so rude and impolite. I hope this changes pretty soon! Pros: Music Cons: Service..horrible!! more

Turn around and walk out 5/17/2007

I visit New York as often as possible and spend lots of time trying to figure out where to dine next. I have eaten at The Little Buddha in Las Vegas many times and have always had a great time. Needless to say I was excited to dine at Buddha Bar on this visit. This restaurant should be embarrassed. I am appalled at what they put down in front of me, with the nerve to call it sushi. I get better sushi at Whole Foods. Mind you these were their SPECIALTY rolls that averaged $16. They were sad. The edamame I make at home is better. The miso soup was weird and fishy and $8. I am not cheap by any strech, but this was a rip off. The dessert menu is uninspired and appears as if someone created it in 5 minutes. The wine list should be burned. They actually had Castle Rock as the house pinot and were charging $12 for it. I cannot stress enough how disappointing this was. GO TO SPICE MARKET!!! Pros: FREEDOM TO NEVER RETURN Cons: EVERYTHING more

BETTER THAN PARIS!!!!!!!!!!! 5/2/2007

We came on Tuesday to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday. Turn out to be the best experience we ever had. The food was good, the decor and the ambience were beautiful and we got the best service we ever had in NYC.Seriously I've been to Nobu, Rainbow Room......etc you name it, but Buddha Bar, my waitress was the best. She's funny, friendly and very personable. She remembered our names and she made our experience memorable. She made us feel like we're 'The Only One' inside this packed restaurant! We'll come again! And ""THE"" thank you again for the unforgettable night! (Charlie's birthday) Pros: ambience, music, decor, service........ more

Save your money, time, and appetite for somewhere else! 5/1/2007

I dined at Buddha Bar for the first time this past Friday, and in one word I would call the experience?.AWFUL!!! It was the worst service in my life!!! We were a party of 6 celebrating a friend?s birthday. First, they sat us at a table way too large for our party. Because of the inconvenience of moving and waiting for a smaller table to clear, they gave us edamame. I had to hail the server numerous times throughout the evening for our drinks. I had to ask twice to place our appetizers and once they were cleared I had to ask twice again to place our entrees order. The food was nothing special. She recommended the Miso Chilean Sea Bass it was too fishy and the rice was just a hard ball of fried oil. The $30 crab avocado salad was extremely small and whatever spice was used overpowered the food and ruined the dish. The guys at the table behind us each ordered 3 drinks at a time knowing how bad the server was. My favorite part of the meal was when we asked the waitress to bring a slice of cake for our birthday girl. She brought the dessert sampler that contained 6 desserts. When the bill came they tried to charge us for the free edamame, 2 rolls that she wasn?t supposed to charge us for bc we never ordered them, and $60 for the dessert!!!! We discovered later that she didnt' care to serve us bc gratuity was included!!!! The only thing that is nice about this place is the decor/atmosphere/bar scene. It?s basically a knock-off of Tao and at least at Tao the food and service is good. Pros: Ambience, location, decor Cons: worst service, bad food, overpriced more

good ambience/good food 4/27/2007

I have been there many times for drinks before but didn't get a chance to try the dinner.\r It was much better than I expected both the ambience and food. The price wasn't any cheaper than other mega restaurants recently opened, eg morimoto but the portion was bit more. I'd definetly go back... more

Great Ambiance! 4/25/2007

My experience was drastically different than the other disappointed customers. We made reservations and were seated promptly. The dining room is very large and has a nice ambiance. Our waitress was friendly and assisted with our menu selection. Although, she didn't mention that side items are separate. The spicy tuna rolls were yummy. The rib eye steak was good but a little salty. I would recommend this restaurant. My friend brings his clients here, whenever they are in town. The meat packing district is a nice and trendy area. Pros: Great Location, Delicious Food Cons: Parking more

Make reservations 4/9/2007

The space itself is very large - and the ambiance is very nice. I have been there twice, once to sit down at a table with friends to have dinner and once to just hang out at the bar. If I were to go a third time, I think I'd make reservations at a table again and then head over to the bar after having a few appetizers or something. If it gets crowded outside, the line gets very long and it can be difficult to get in. Other than that, the place is pretty good and I would definitely go back. Pros: ambiance, music, lots o fun Cons: $$$, make reservations - can be hard to get into w/out one more

Incredibly rude staff 4/6/2007

Nice atmosphere and good drinks, but not worth being harassed by their idiotic staff. After being forced to check my coat (what does this place think it is?), I became chilly in the lounge and retrieved my coat, only to be harrassed once again to RE-CHECK my coat! After explaining that I was going to wear it b/c I was cold (I shouldn't have bothered) the brainless hostess kept insisting I could not bring it into the lounge. Finally, I just stormed past her. Furthermore, my friend who was returning a call in the foyer (it was raining outside) was told by the ""bouncer"" she couldn't speak on her phone there and was shooed out into the rain. New York has plenty of other places with atmosphere, good food and drinks, and courteous staff. Don't waste your time here. more

Avoid! so many other good spots to go evn right across the street 4/6/2007

I?ve been entertaining customers for 13 years in Manhattan , I have been to all the top restaurants and lounges all over the city. I never wrote a review on any establishment before. But if I could save someone there time and money please take this review into consideration! I will never step into Buddha bar again in my life; I can?t begin to tell you how painful this place is! It all starts at the front door with the bouncer! If I was the owner I would have him fired yesterday! I had a 1500 dollar bar tab running inside with customers , I had two other customers show up late and were waiting outside ,so I went out to get them . When I tell you there was no one on line, there was no one out there and this Jrk off bouncer would not let them in! I could not believe the arrogance of this guy, here I have a huge tab inside, and this jrk off would not let them in. Just do yourself a favor avoid this place, Food scks! Always cold! And it seams like everything is pre-made! Take my advise I?ve been doing this for a long time don?t ruin your night on this place! more

Rudest service in NYC 4/5/2007

Went to Buddha Bar and it turned out to be the worst dining experience ever!!!!!! The hostess insisted on checking in my coat even though I was cold from a damp and rainy night, she said it was their policy. My steak salad was almost raw and when I asked if it could be cooked alittle bit more the waitress said there were certain dishes they could not alter. Finally on the way out, I asked the bouncer what was across the street and he replied, ""it's a restaurant."" When I asked him what the name was, his reply was, "" you asked what it was, not what the name was...it's STK."" Well after my experience at Buddha Bar, I am going to check out STK. The ambience and food was ok (should be for $100!) but in no way makes up for the pathetic service!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Pros: ok food and ambience Cons: rude service all the way around more

RUDEST bouncer 3/24/2007

My friend and I had a dinner at 8pm on Fri, and left the place around 10pm. Only good point is that the decor is gorgeous. Food is not good enough for the price., Waiter's service is slow. At the time, I thought the place is all right. After we left BB, we decided to go back to the BB for drink around midnight. we were waiting outside, and doorman whose name is JIMMY let goup of seven in. he was just ignorining us, since we are in front of the seven gourp. I just asked why we still have to wait, then he said that there are so many places to go for you in this area. He just behaved he own the place. I never had such a terrible experince during 10 year's of my NY life. I will never ever go back to the place. I just hope that BB fire JIMMY , or BB would disappear from NY city. Pros: ambience Cons: rudest bouncer, slow service, unprofessional staff, over price, food under average more

beautiful interior,beautiful women,Ask for Kevin-excellent mgr. 3/18/2007

I had great time at buddha bar ,everyone there was very friendly unlike that crappy place tenjune. In retrospect even though buddha bar was not my first choice i'm glad that is the way it worked out. I hope when everyone reads this review they realize that wherever you go you want to have fun you don't want to be judged! I'd rather go to buddha bar ten times over before dropping a dime at tenjune.\r TENJUNE IS SO NOT HOT!!!!!!!!! more

Great time! Excellent food & service for entire group! 3/16/2007

6 of us dined here on Saturday and had a wonderful time! Every dish and piece of sushi was excellent (obviously everyone has different tastes, but we really disagree with the complaints - everything was fresh, cooked perfectly and arrived quickly - no pressure or attitude from staff. And the place was BUSY! We were seated in about 6 minutes and had absolutely no problem at the door )\r \r Decor was beautiful & there was good mix of people throughout the night. We stayed hours after eating and enjoyed a great variety of drinks and music. Didn't end up going to our next destination because everyone was having such a great time - we all highly recommend Buddha Bar & will be back! Pros: Great combo of restaurant, lounge, club atmospheres, Amazing decor! Cons: None! more

bad experience 2/23/2007

I was there last week with my wife. food was average, service absolutly bad. The place is great and romantic.\r i ordered duck, it cames without sides, nobody told me that i have to order it extra, after i was done with my duck he ask me if i want order rice as side. we order cocktails and they send us the wrong ones, the correct ones were great. so i can only recommend the cocktails and the ambience. Pros: ambience cocktails Cons: food, service more

Great... great...geat!!!!!!!!! 2/21/2007

Excellent!!! That's all I can say. Food, decor and service. It's all worth it. I came yesterday night with my fiancee. Uni (our waitress) was very attentive and sweet. I don't understand all those bad reviews. Will come back again! Pros: Decor and service more

Avoid at all cost 2/18/2007

This is the absolute worst place I have ever been to in any country I have ever visited. I highly recommend against this place. I've seen better decor at an all you can eat buffet which is probably where you'll want to go after this place as the food is even worse. How is it that a place located in Manhattan cannot make a decent Manhattan? The wait staff was inattentive and the doorman made another group wait outside in the cold. Do yourself a favor and go to one of the many other BETTER places in the area. Pros: It's close to the Old Home Stead Cons: EVERYTHING!, bad food worse service and they can't get a drink order right more

PAYING FOR THE ATMOSPHERE & LOCATION 2/11/2007

Celebrated my b-day here in Dec. Was dying to dine here because I heard great reviews of the scene and food. Come here on the weekends to get the full experience. The entrance makes you feel that you're about to encounter something grand and you do. They have this cool smoking room (all glass and connected to the outside) Sorta a sanctuary for the warm atmosphere when it's crowded. Food comes in very small portion for the price. It's definitely good, and much better than Tao. Again, you're paying for the whole experience, so try it at least once. No complaints among my group of 6 except the portion. Be prepare to pay about $100 per person. Pros: Meat packing district/Ambience Cons: $$$$ for the portion more
