Over Hyped 10/16/2007

Good trendy place, but did not live up to it's name. I heard this place was the lastest and greatest but it didn't seem too special Pros: nice place Cons: food is nothing special more

Good vibrations 9/17/2007

This is a good bar scene, after you dine somewhere else. The food is nothing to rave about and way overpriced. However the crowd is good, always crowded, but not too crowded. An overall good vibe. Pros: food Cons: the singles crowd more

Overrated and overpriced!!! 9/11/2007

I have never taken time of my busy schedule to write a negative review. But I would like to relay to you my experience during the visit to Buddha Bar.\r We were visiting from Los Angeles and meeting friends from another country visiting New York for the first time. We looked at the menu and were ready to order a la carte when the waiter recommended we do a family style service to try various things. We agreed but did say go easy we weren't too hungry.\r We didn't know that every entree or appetizer that was brought to the table contained 2 or even 3 portions!\r We ordered just a couple of drinks. Our bill was $350 a couple! This was a lot more than we planned for. In fact, it was an absolute budget breaker for folks from another country! \r I have tried to speak to the manager over the phone a couple of times but he would not get back to me. \r I have also e-mailed Buddha Bar managers who didn't respond.\r We frequently go out and know what to expect, but we feel that we were treated unfairly. We should have been told that the appetizer / entree selection will be multiplied by two or there. When it is a fixed price menu we would at least know what to expect!\r Most importantly, I am upset about the management not returning my phone calls!\r So, New York city is filled with great restaurant, you have many better options. Cons: overpriced more

Great place for something a little different... 9/6/2007

Found this to be a great change-of-pace from some of the places in the surrounding area.. While a bit too trendy and lacking a bit of substance in terms of the food quality, I had a good experience and would go back again..\r \r Robert H. Goretsky\r Hoboken, NJ more

good hang out 8/22/2007

This is a great place to go for a drink or if you're looking to meet people. The ambience is breathtaking, the music is great and the people are very chic. However, the food is average at best. The first time i went there i was expecting this amazing dinner but got this blah dinner instead. Phillipe chow is a much better choice if you're in the mood for asian fusion. Pros: bar scene Cons: food more

Um. 8/18/2007

Hey guys. Stop letting in the nasty Euro and B&T Trash. It's cool, but the doorman felt waaaayyyy too good about his power. Just go somewhere else. Pros: Fun Dancing Cons: Awful Service more

Buddha baby 8/17/2007

I'm not a big nightclub person but this place was alright. It closes early (3 instead of 4) and wasn't over crowded. The ambience was of course hip and trendy, and it was, as it typically goes, was overrun with B&T and Eurotrash. You can still dance to techno stuff they play and drinks are expensive but good. You get your money's worth, unlike that awful Gansevoort, where you pay $14 for a shot of mohjito..so go there if you want to go to a trendy club with a big Buddha, blah blah blah Pros: Buddha Cons: too trendy cheeseball more

Mediocre food AND rude staff - what a deal! 8/6/2007

Complete knock-off of Tao but with food not as good as PF Changs. I have to admit we weren't expecting much from this over-hyped place, but when I had my birthday there with my wife and two other couples a few weeks back I was actually THREATENED and escorted out by 4 bouncers when we told the manager that we didn't feel our completely rude server had earned anywhere close to the (undisclosed) mandatory 20% gratuity they added to our bill. (Literally as soon as we sat down - before ordering drinks - our charming server told us we needed to order quickly because there was a wait... this after reserving a month ahead!) Now I'm sure you're thinking - 'this guy must get in brawls all the time - he probably seemed dangerous'... but no - I actually was calm, sober and, well, I'm a 5' 7"" children's toy designer... so I was a little surprised when the manager had a massive 6'5"" guy warn me to not disrespect the manager - 4 inches from my face - and was then told by the manager that we were lucky to be there and that they didn't care if we thought they had awful service. ""Look outside"" he said ""We've got a line of people waiting to take your table."" No exaggeration. He said this exactly. Go if you want to - but you've been warned... And the food REALLY wasn't good. Pros: The Big Buddha is cool... look at it and leave Cons: Can't fit it all here... service, threat of bodily harm, food, price more

Amazing experience!! 7/4/2007

12 of us dined here on Saturday and had a wonderful time! From our waiters suggestion, we had him put together the first course and sushi. (I think his name was something like .. Aki, tall, dashing asian boy.) Every dish and piece of sushi he brought was amazing. (obviously everyone has different tastes, but we really disagree with the complaints - everything was fresh, cooked perfectly and arrived quickly - no pressure or attitude from staff. And the place was BUSY! We were seated in about 6 minutes and had absolutely no problem at the door ) Decor was beautiful & there was good mix of people throughout the night. We stayed hours after eating and enjoyed a great variety of drinks and music. Didn't end up going to our next destination because everyone was having such a great time - we all highly recommend Buddha Bar & will be back! If you go there, listen to the staff. They really know what they're doing!! Pros: Great Food, Amazing service, easy on the eyes too. Cons: The wine list was lacking. Very. more

Amazing... 6/27/2007

I think the same disgruntled person is writing all the negative reviews because I cannot imagine so many people having bad experiences here. The decor is spectacular, the vibe is cool, music is great, food is delicious...what more are people looking for? If you want cheap food in a no frills environment, go to IHOP and order waffles for God's sake. If you want Suzi the friendly waitress breaking her back for you with smiles and compiments, then move to flyover country. This is Manhattan. People are not always sugar sweet. I absolutely loved this restaurant. It's expensive, and probably not so good for a romantic outing just because of it's massive size. Go in a small group during the week and you'll have a great time. more

If Quality and Service Matter Buddha Bar is not the ""It"" Place 6/12/2007

This is the worst restaurant experience I've had NYC. Rudeness rules among Waiters, host and Manager. The service and the quality of food are of the poorest quality. The drinks are watered down and if you order a glass of wine, the portion served is 1/3 of the glass. Beware of its unpublished policy ,if by 10 pm you are seating at a table in the bar area you will need to purchase a bottle to remain seated at your table or the table will be given to someone else. This happened to us we had just ordered a round of drinks when the hostess brought the bill and told us our table had be given to someone else, this in spite of our group spending $400 for that round of drinks when we asked where the policy was posted the managers became irate. We returned the drinks untouched and requested a refund, the manager collected our drinks as to comply with our request for the refund instead he ushered several bouncers to ask our party to leave a Buddha Bar. For questioning where the policy was posted. Spend your money else, this place is a major miss. Pros: The decor is superb and the music is trendy Cons: Rudeness of all waiting personnel including the manager of the establishment more

Never judge a book by it's cover! 6/12/2007

This saying couldn't be more true along with all that glitters isn't gold!! Born and raised in New York, this was the WORSE experience in my life. They should consider changing their name to ""RUDER Bar"", because that is what this place is all about - rudeness and exceptionally poor service. New York is all about see and be seen, but to be seen in this place is nothing to brag about!! If you are planning to go for cocktails, be prepared for ""the policy"" - you cannot sit at a table unless you buy a bottle, i.e., Vodka starting at $600 or Cristal at $4,500, regardless if you are spending $600 on cocktails with your party.
