Very Good Ethiopian Cuisine 2/25/2010

I didn't even realize that there WAS a Little Ethiopia in Los Angeles until a few years back. This is a new addition to the cluster of Ethiopian restaurants on Fairfax. \r We ordered the vegetarian platter -- wunderbar. The collard greens were superb.\r Nice clean interior, reasonable prices. \r There is also an Addis restaurant in the Rockridge area in Oakland... I wonder if they are related in any way? Pros: New Restaurant, New Experience Cons: Lots of competition in the area more

Taste of Ethiopia in the heart of LA

Owner Message
  • Traveling to Ethiopia takes 20 hours but you only need to come down to South Fairfax Avenue to experience Little Ethiopia. Messob has been bringing authentic Ethiopian cuisine and culture to LA since 1985.
The African spices dress up various chicken, beef and lamb dishes that are served with injera bread. Our menu boasts a great vegan selection.
Finish off your meal with authentic Ethiopian coffee. Coffee is Ethiopia's main export and it is from Ethiopia that the beverage first spread to the rest of the world. We also serve Ethiopian beer and wine.
Try Gursha, the Ethiopian cultural practice of hand feeding your dinner companion, a gesture of affection. Gursha is exchanged between husband and wife and among relatives and friends. Bring your date to Messob and treat him or her to Gursha.
Easy parking family and group friendly, private parties and catering available

Editorial
  • In Short
Pleasant smells waft through the air as diners are greeted by one of the pair of brothers who own the restaurant or an equally attentive hostess. A neat row of glass-top tables sit comfortably on both sides of the room, with special Ethiopian straw tables known as the restaurant's namesake, mesob, in the center of the room. Two larger ones are perched communally in the front window. The menu includes traditional vegetarian sampler dishes, house specialty chili-spiced beef kitfo and more mild chicken breast.
