4 of us went to Acqua on a rainy weeknight. We were the only customers (which is never a good sign) from 6-7:30. We dine out a lot in Manhattan, but we don't visit the South Stre...

Authentic Italian Cuisine in FiDi 11/13/2010

Acqua offers an escape from ""carbon copy"" Italian restaurant menus. Their Sicilian born Chef serves the most authentic Italian food around, as well as incorporate modern riffs using local fresh ingredients and Mediterranean sensibilities. I love Linguine with clams in white wine, fresh Fettuccine with cherry tomatoes and homemade mozzarella. The wine list is complete and reasonably priced. The candlelit dining room, a casual yet elegant atmosphere (btw great music) and friendly staff make your time at Acqua a wonderful experience. As an italian, born and raised in Rome, this is the only place in NYC that reminds me of my city. (Best Carbonara and Matriciana abroad). more

It’s La Dolce Vita in Lower Manhattan. 11/1/2010

It’s la dolce vita in Lower Manhattan. Warm and romantic, Acqua proposes an extraordinary contemporary Italian cuisine. I am in love with their quality, emphasizing seasonal organic ingredients and sunny flavors. My favs are all their pastas, the homemade mozzarella, and the wonderful crusty bread baked on the premises. A superb wine list makes any evening into a special occasion, at reasonable prices. This is a precious, hidden gem. Please Acqua, do not change a thing! more

Misleading reviews 10/13/2010

I thought I was going to a fine italian restaurant ,with great service, but I was really disappointed.First of all DON'T ask for Marco as other reviews suggest. He made my gf feel unconfortable because he kept on staring at her, and he was talking to her only, as if I werent even there! Then he turned cold as he saw us kissing. The food was not nearly as good as other restaurants in the neighborhood and they added heavy cream to my clams sauce past!!! not even inb oliven garden! more

Ditto to this great place! 8/18/2010

I came in with 4 friends last night and I had the most wonderful meal. The personnel was incredible, nice competent and very friendly. We were taken excellent care by the manager that came over, entertained us and suggest we try their Brunello and their Barolo. What an excellent suggestion, both great wines!!! Thank you Marco! Certainly we will be coming back for great food and even better service. Can you ask for more? more

Original Italian specialties 1/14/2010

I have been invited by friends to Acqua this week. I knew the place before when it was named Quartino and it was a decent Italian restaurant. What an improvement! The food was delicious, in particular the home made pasta (I had gnocchi and tasted the pappardelle with pesto) and the pizza is good too. The place is nice with friendly service. Finally a real Italian place. Pros: Good ingredients and creative preparation Cons: None really more

Great Food, Good Service 12/9/2009

We recently had a group of 43 people come for lunch after we particapted in a charity walk in Battery Park. The staff was very accomodating and had set up a pre -arranged 3 course lunch. Everyone enjoyed the food and the service and it closed out a great day for us. Pros: Fresh, Authentic Food more

Summer in NYC 7/25/2009

I am in NYC for work and I eat frequently at Acqua because my hotel is nearby in the Seaport area. I tried the Linguine with Clams and they were cooked perfectly al dente. I also tried the home made Pappardelle with fresh Pesto. On of my favorite is the fresh mozzarella with Proscuitto and black figs. I believe this is one of the best Italian restaurant in NY and certainly the most authentic. Decor and ambiance are also very enjoyable. Pros: This is authentic Italian cuisine. Wine selection. more

great food and great atmosphere 7/25/2009

I was at Acqua yesterday for a girls' night out and we had the best time ever!!! \r We shared 2 wonderful seafood risottos with clams, calamari and baby-lobster which was an athentic revelation! I've never had such a rich and tasty dish! We also had tuna tartar and crab salad which were great as well!\r Everything was great! We had a bottle of Falangina to pair the meal. Dining outsside near the river was just amazing! We'll definitely be back. more

This is like eating Italian food in Rome! 5/12/2009

If you like authentic Italian food, this is the place. Pasta is home made and cooked to perfection, ""al dente"", like in Italy. Bread, mozzarella, pastas are homemade under the direction of all Italian chef Santoro. I suggest to reserve, it is getting busier and busier with the summer, Try Gnocchi with pesto and gorgonzola cheese, paired with Falanghina wine from Campania. Exceptional! Pros: Quality of food, atmosphere, outside dining Cons: little difficult to reach, but worth.. more

Simply the worst service in NYC 5/11/2009

Let me be simple here: This was the WORST service I have ever experienced in New York, or anywhere for that matter. The problems are too great to list but I will give two examples. At a table for 12 people, the first dish was brought out a full 25 minutes before anyone elses. One person had food, while the rest did not for 25 minutes. When the rest came, there was still one missing. When that one finally came (about 45 minutes after the first dish - no joke!), the pasta was raw and unedible. I wish I could list all the problems here, but I will simply sum it up by saying the service was so bad, we thought it was actually a practical joke. Needless to say, I would not go back and encourage you not to either. Cons: Service, Food more

best pasta, focaccia, tuna tartare 10/21/2008

I feel at home when I come to this wonderful Italian restaurant, my favorite in town.\r the seasonal specialties are incredible, pastas are to die for. you can't go wrong!\r Start with a focaccia al formaggio or with the tuna tartare.don't miss a pasta specialty or the daily risotto and polenta specials. \r you can't leave Acqua without tasting one of its fabulous desserts. my favorites are the chocolate mousse and the coffee affogato [ in a sea of ice-cream]....You cannot ask for more...or maybe you can: ask for a to go apple/chocolate cake and eat it in the morning for breakfast....you deserve it! more

My favorite Italian in town! Authentic and healthy. 10/13/2008

I am glad that a friend suggested me Acqua at Peck Slip as i moved to the Financial District and i was looking for nice restaurants in the area. I was at Acqua yesterday night for the first time. It was a very enjoyable experience. I had a Pear salad and it was fresh and tasty. A great start. My boyfriend (Italian) ordered a mixed selection of artisanal cheeses and cured meats imported from Italy. He told me that they were fantastic. First quality ingredients. As a main course we ordered a Striped Bass poached in white wine and it was simply delicious, and a Linguine with clams absolutely prefect. We had a bottle of Soave (very reasonably priced) and we completed a perfect meal with a Tiramisu and a selection of Homemade artisanal Gelati. The ambiance is lovely and the service very friendly. We will be back for sure! Pros: Quality of ingredients. Atmosphere more

Great Romantic Place 9/9/2008

I love Acqua!! \r After discovering this little romantic restaurant a few weeks ago I am a regular there. I love their homemade authentic Italian cuisine. Their chef, Ciro Santoro is fully dedicated to bring here the real flavors of authentic regional dishes. Tasty but healthy. Greens, eggs and chicken are organic. Most pastas, ravioli, bread and mozzarella are home made every morning. That's way they taste sooo fresh! The wine selection is inspired. Service is friendly and setting casual-chic. I love dining outside, in the patio, under the stars ;) more

A hidden gem! Great food, nice atmosphere. 9/9/2008

The sidewalk tables at Acqua, located on the edge of a cobbled area called Peck Slip, offer serenity in the early evening that you can't find in the Village or other restaurant-heavy neighborhoods. The landscape still looks like a seaport from the era of clipper ships and brigantines.\r An oasis in the desert wasteland (or maybe waist-land) of the South Street Seaport, Acqua is one of the city's least pretentious restaurants-wine bars, offering many vintages by the quartino, along with a pleasing selection of authentic, fresh Italian cuisine, guaranteed by their passionate Italian chef. Try their special Seafood Risotto or fresh Spinach ravioli with home made ligurian pesto. Enjoy!\r \r \r Pros: Outside dining, quality of food, friendly atmosphere Cons: still trying to find one.... :) more

I've lived in NYC my whole life (37 years) and this restaurant was the worst value of any restaurant I've ever eaten in (in NYC). The food essentially tasted like airline food. If you can tell the difference between decent food and horrible food I'd avoid this restaurant. more

Comfortable setting, reflecting the relaxed atmosphere of the Seaport, with exceptional food. 8/12/2008

Love this restaurant! It's conveniently near the Seaport, a relaxed area with fun street performances when there's good weather. Acqua has a comfortable setting and amazing food... The pear salad and pappardelle al pesto are among my favorite dishes. The pesto sauce has a wonderfully clean, basil taste. Another refreshing detail is that the food is seasonal and organic. And I've found the wait staff to be very friendly. This restaurant, which is great for both family dining and dates, has become one of my favorite places to eat. more

great italian dining 5/19/2008

A group of 13 of us went here after my sister's graduation this past Saturday and it was perfect! They knew it was a special occasion and immediately brought us over some champagne and plenty of appetizers to start. The cheese platter and meat antipasto were great! Everyone was pleased with their dishes and the service (which usually does not happen with such a large group). Highly recommend! Pros: great food, great service more

buonissimo!!! 4/21/2008

we went there during the last week end and was a amazing experience, the restaurant was full , but everybody have time to come and be friendly, the food ; from antipasti at the meet was a great experience, a nice wine list with a great region offer , so sure we are going back to this outsider place...\r thanks and see you soon...\r \r La chicagorda Pros: the nice waitress more

OMG here's real Italian food. ....although portions are the American size!!!!! 3/14/2008

I am part Italian and I go there often. the food at Acqua is REAL ITALIAN FOOD, so uncommond in NY!!!!\r but the portions are huge, maybe too big! just like in America and unlike pretentious restaurants like Cipriani [food there is not that good but overpriced...].\r pastas to die for. a wonderful stracchino focaccia. and the tuna tartare is great if you love spicy food!\r tagliata is good too if you really want meat. \r try the tiramisu and choco mousse!\r or gelato affogato! Pros: real italian food! Cons: big portions more

  • If you're in the mood for Italian lessons, or just want to feel like you're stuck in beautiful Roma, stop by this authentic enoteca. Owners Alberto Baudo and Valeria Rubino pulled out all the stops to give New Yorkers an authentic vino experience.

The wine list spans over 120 bottles, all from small boutique Italian vintners, handpicked by Alberto Baudo and executive chef Ciro Santoro. From 5pm to 8pm on weekdays, they run a special "aperitivo hour", where you can wet your whistle with a Bellini, Acqua-tini, and a slew of other specialty drinks along with some very inspired antipasti, compliments of the house. Between the native Italians (who seem to be everywhere) and the chichi clientele, this spot is definitely worth every last lira.
