Eat at your own risk!!! 1/31/2009

Me and my friend should have learned our lesson the first time when we found a hair in her banana bread that she bought from Abbots Habit. But no we thought that can happen anywhere and this one of are local eating places so i would hate to have to take it off the list of the few places close by to grab a bite. Especially because i do enjoy there drinks and food...but yesterday my poor friend AGAIN had a bad experience with the food she bought from there. As she was eating her sandwich a dead fly fell out of her sandwich!!!!! Not cool!!! So I'm warning you all to eat there at your own risk. more

Hole-in-the-wall treasure on Abbot-Kinney 7/31/2008

This is a great cafe for breakfast/lunch, or even a great place to study. Follow the advice and grab a table outside, there's always something interesting going on in Venice. It's always fairly quite and a great place to hole up and grab a cup of coffee. more

BAGELS and CREAM CHEESE! 6/4/2008

I came everyday for breakfast for the five days I stayed with a friend in Venice because I couldn't drag myself anywhere else. The bagels and whipped cream cheese are SO good here. I also had to order a fresh orange juice and latte every morning because they were so good as well. and you can't beat the unpretentious, local, relaxed ambience. Great people watching inside and out. I still go back here on occassion even though I live on the east side. Pros: Great for breakfasts, locals, relaxed Cons: limited outside seating more

Bad service, unexciting and overpriced sandwich 4/24/2008

I've always wanted to visit this cafe, and finally I did. Maybe its better days are behind us, because the service was terrible and my sandwich was expensive and not a good value for the money. It was just okay. I've gotten better sandwiches from Fresh and Easy for half the price. The girl helping me behind the counter couldn't wake up long enough to answer questions about the menu and had to ask people (who had to ask people). And this was just about the types of bread! Nobody seemed all that happy to be there, and they could definitely have cared less about my experience. And, the restroom was filthy. I won't go back. Pros: Greap people watching Cons: Terrible food and service more

Best cafe in Venice! 2/16/2008

I am a Venice local (two years), and this is my review: Pros: Free parking, great ambience, tasty food, friendly service Cons: Can get crowded over lunch and on the weekends, only open till 10pm more

It Used To Be Nice, Now It's A Wreck With Bad Service 10/7/2007

I used to frequent this place quite a lot. However, recently, the people they have working behind the counter have taken to blasting the radio. I asked one worker if she could turn the radio down. She scoffed and turned away. Next, I asked a boy working behind the coutner if he could turn the music down. He said ""yes"", and then turned the dial down on the radio maybe half a centimeter. If that's how the owners of Abbot's Habit want to run their coffee shop, I hope they go out of business soon. Pros: Okay food. Good to people watch. Cons: TERRIBLE SERVICE, TOO NOISY. more

Great chai lattes! 11/13/2006

I used to work around here and loved the walk from Venice Blvd down Abbot Kinney or Electric Ave to Abbot's Habit to get a sandwhich or (more frequently) chai or coffee. I've never had a bad experience here and their prices are comparable with other more major chain stores. Their baristas are friendly and often suggest something new. I'd gladly go back when in the area. Cons: hardly any parking more

Great service, great bagels. 7/26/2006

I've only been in for bagels and coffee but it's always been a pleasure. The light and vibe is always positive and the eats always tasty. Pros: Ambience, Food, Service. more

fun local coffeeshop 7/5/2006

I love A's H for the people watching and the fabuuuloouuss location. I used to live 2 blocks away and would take afternoon jaunts down to the corner for a cup of tea. There's seating outside, where Venice locals sit with their dogs, and inside, where people meet up, write screenplays and secretly check each other out. Def. a venice institution! more

User review by liberte903 1/31/2006

The staff is courteous, the coffee is excellent, the food's even better. The location is great--you can go shopping along Abbot-Kinney while you're out grabbing coffee, or take your dog to the dog park just down the street. The owner, as well as the staff, are very friendly, down to earth, and Abbot's Habit tends to draw quite an interesting, eclectic crowd. Definitely worth the price, and definitely worth stopping by. more

Eclectic, surprising, live acoustic music! 9/23/2005

This place is absolutely fabulous for eclectic live music (mostly solo acoustic) on weekend evenings from 7:30 to 11. Call ahead to be sure they've got a line up, but I've certainly never been disappointed on a Friday night. Sometimes there is even the occasional foreign up-and-comer in town to court the record companies - slummin' in Venice and putting on an incredible show at this dingy, friendly, REAL Venice hot spot! I saw Australian singer Jackie Bristow at Abbot's Habit, and was BLOWN AWAY at how great her performance was, and how perfectly she seemed to fit here - a testament both to her flexibility as an artist, and to the open, casual environment that is Abbot's Habit. Pros: Great sandwiches, Perfect coffee, Friendly staff Cons: Kitchen is DOG SLOW., Parking can be hard. more

Worth a return visit 4/25/2005

A friend and I started our Abbot Kinney shopping trip here a couple of weeks ago. She was happy to find that the lattes come with your choice of coffee or espresso, and I was pleased with the pastries. I'd come back for more, no question about it. more

Venice favorite 3/24/2005

I LOVE this place. It has great coffee drinks, sandwiches and bagels. You can choose a sandwich of the menu or build your own. It's perfect on a weekend morning before shopping on Abbot Kinney or going to the beach. Pros: good food, cheap, coffee more

Bitchin' Brew 2/22/2003

Unlike inland cafes and coffee houses (i.e, Hollywood and beyond) that are besotted with laptops and cell phones wielded by entertainment industry flunkies, Abbot's Habit draws its clients from a wider swath of social fabric as can only be found in Venice. Creative types, or at least creative-looking types, seem to be the dominate species of patron closely followed by beach-dwellers and the occasional hipster. The coffee is rich, the staff courteous and pleasant and the ambience inviting. Pros: Neighborhood feel, Nice staff Cons: Limited street parkin, music can get loud more

Habit Forming 5/19/2002

I used to go there everyday for lunch. I'd get a bagel, some avocado and lox. I think my meal came to about $3 or $4. Not bad for good food. As I recall, the soups were quite tasty as well. The mostly hippie staff can be frustrating when you've been waiting for awhile, but for the most part they are reasonable people with healthy attitudes. Dog lovers often bring their canine companions along with them, so don't be surprised to see a whole row of animals outside on the patio. Pros: funky decor, Abbot Kinney locale Cons: service can be slow, no a/c in summer more
