Love the Oysters. They are SO TASTY and so many varieties. Ask for a booth. They have excellent fish dishes too. The cod is great. more

A DISASTER 2/24/2012

Extremely dissatisfied by the menu...pricey, not worth it at all...in addition i left with a special treat FOOD POISONING!!!! I would rather eat from a food truck on the streets of NYC then to go back to Aqua Grill! more

Good food, pricey, good location 7/17/2011

My next table had Ed Koch eating what looked like macaroni and cheese....and raw onions. I did not know this was on the menu. I come for the fish. Ed did not mind when a couple tourists in the restaurant came over to him and asked him for a photo with them. My lunch was a fish sandwich. Fresh but I have had better because the sauce on it was not as good as the fish itself, if that makes any sense. The service is spotty depending on how busy they are and they are usually really crowded. It is a good restaurant nevertheless. Aquagrill is usually an enjoyable place to eat and there are lots of fresh fish selections. One of the pricier restaurants in Soho. more

by pure accident we ended up having dinner at this restaurant and it was one of the best restarurant experiences i've ever had. Everything was perfect. Very sweet hostess, nice table with great view, attentive and professional service, promp manager and that FOOD. Food was unbelievable. i usually dont eat fish cuz I think it has tasteless and sticky meat howeverafter reading the menu I decided to give it a try.Alaskan salmon and snapper were work of art. worth every penny. more

Best Seafood in the City 12/21/2009

I dined at Aquagrill recently and had an amazing experience. We came early for our reservation and were able to snag a seat at the bar and eat 24 perfect oysters. We had the bartender choose the oysters and let me tell you they were all so delicious, super fresh, and expertly shucked. At the table we ate American cavier, spicy tuna tartar (wonderful), and crispy octopus (absolute perfection) to start. We split the special entree with the bay scallops, lobster and gnocci. The gnocci were light as air - and everything was expertly prepared. The food was incredible from the bread to the amuse to the panna cotta for dessert. The staff was so friendly and kind. The pace of the meal was also excellent - we weren't rushed, but were never waiting for something either. The staff really made us feel welcomed and we couldn't help but feel a little like we were guests in their homes. The only 'bad' part about our experience was the wait for the single stall bathrooms. Will be back often - fantastic experience. Pros: Food, Oysters, Staff Cons: Not a thing more

Dirtiest Restaurant in the City 7/9/2009

I was in last Sunday for brunch and not only did the Maitre D' lose my reservation but while I was eating I found a clump of dirt in my salad then I saw something run across the dining room. The bathroom was a diasator! Needless to say I will never eat there again. FISH is a better restaurant and it is in the area. YUCK!!!! Pros: There are plenty of other restaurants nearby Cons: It exists more

Coupla slips, overall dope. 5/29/2009

The ambiance and decor inside is very appealing. Slightly congested dining area but comfy NY elbow dunting norm. Strong and tasty G and T opener followed by very delish Oysters (they have various types from all over, while they tasted rather similar, gooey seawater with nice little perky sauce, washed down with a cheeky sauvingnon blanc, everyone's happy). Crab cake app was a bit of a fishy fried doughball, over cooked. The other chaps seemed happy with their apps. The three of us had the salmon, scallops and the halibut special, the two fish dishes were great but muggins here had the scallops, not the freshest and the sauce was really bad - not sure if the cook dropped the salt shaker or some of the capers fell in there but i was struggling to force it down - eventually sharing with my buddies that it was pretty damn poor. They had a bite and concurred. When we mentioned it the lady was great, got rid, took it off the check and brought out another salmon - which was sublime. Brought two platters of shared deserts - little stuff but very kind. My friend is a regular which would explain the great service and make up calls. Not complaining (sorta). I'll be back - HAVE THE SALMON - its crazy! Halibut Special my other pal order was also first class. Overall, well done. Pros: Best Salmon dish I've ever eaten, hands down. Cons: Dodgy Scallops but I'll explain.... more

Great raw bar 11/12/2008

If you like oysters, this is the place. They carried something crazy like 30 varieties the night we went - some were local, some flown in from overseas. We tried 8 or 9 kinds. All were very fresh and tasty. Everything else we ordered was also expertly prepared (although less memorable than the oysters). Pros: One of the best raw bars in NYC Cons: Soho is out of the way for me more

doesn't live up to the reputation, would only go for raw bar 10/23/2008

I went with my sister tonight to aquagrill (a thursday night). Initially, the maitre'd was very odd and talked to us about Johnny depp sitting with us, as a joke we presume, but we really have no idea what he was talking about. He continued this ""joke"" throughout the course of our dinner. Upon sitting, we had great service and enjoyed the oysters and florida stone crab legs immensely. more

Fresh Seafood.. 10/4/2008

The food here is fantastic! The freshest seafood and so generous with the portions. We had the Seafood Plateau and it was a huge bucket. We also ordered the oysters that were so fresh and yummy. We had Warm Octopus Salad it was perfect.. Pros: server, food more

Good seafood in Soho 8/22/2008

The Oyster selection is extensive and the entrees are very tasty interpretations of fish we've all eaten a million times before (halibut, cod, tuna, etc). The restaurant is nosiy and crowded at dinnertime but no one seemed to care. Not overly expensive, with most entrees under $30. The most amazing seafood I've ever eaten? Nah. But it is very good. And chicks dig Soho. Pros: Good food, Extensive Oyster Selection, Good Wine List Cons: Small & Crowded more

Best restaurant around 5/20/2008

Aquagrill is one of my favorite restaurants in the city. I am there often and always get the same consistent, generous and welcoming service. I can always rely on being greeted by every staff member that passes me. The oysters are always fresh and delicious. And if you want to taste heaven, order the Truffle Crusted Chatham Cod. I recommend this place to anyone who wants a great meal and great service. The staff is extremely knowledgeable about all food items and drinks, and they are always happy to explain anything. No one here is pretentious. I think the reviewer below me might have mistaken what restaurant he/she was at. And if not, then it's probably best for him/her to stay in and never dine out because he/she clearly does not know great service. The prices are reasonable, especially for what you get at Aquagrill. I recommend that everyone try this restaurant. Pros: great service, amazing food Cons: none that i can think of more

Rudeness in the City 3/21/2008

Going to dinner at a posh restaurant in the trendy West Village? I would suggest SKIPPING the Aquagrill. Pros: Some really good shelfish Cons: Price prohibitive and horrible service (not European...just bad) more

Great oysters 3/6/2008

If you are a shellfish fan I recommend this place- I come just for the oysters and am always pleased. They have quite a large selection and price range depending on what you're looking for. My friend had a pasta dish and enjoyed it as well. They have a decent wine list and in the summers the outdoor area is a wonderful way to spend a Sunday. My only complaint is the service was almost too good the first time I was there, I was with a male that apparently is not a fan of waiters taking off and helping put on his jacket. more

Amazing Experience from seafood to souffle 2/5/2008

I dined there Saturday evening and it was packed but to our astonishment we were greeted warmly and seated promptly. Our server was a pro who never made us feel neglected or rushed, but took time to make excellent oyster suggestions (small and sweet ones) as well as helping us pair wines by the glass with our order. The food was perfectly cooked and creative without being over the top - amazing tuna entree with flavors that enhanced the fish and even each other. My brother loved the bouillabaise and he has sampled versions from Marseilles to Manhattan and claimed this was the best of the best. I told the wiatress how much I loved the bread and she surprised me by telling me they make all their own breads and dessert and even chocolates. You can tell people care about what they're doing here - even on a busy Saturday night the place shined and made us leave feeling more than satisfied. Pros: Great food in a snazzy environment Cons: Small bathrooms, loud more

Overrated 1/21/2008

After much research and a recommendation, decided on Aquagrill for a special occasion dinner. We were seated promptly for our 8pm Sunday reservation. Our waitress was all business - no suggestions or direction - just there to take your order. Tuna carpaccio appetizer was fresh, nicely presented and tasted good. Tuna entree was just OK, tasted like tuna over vegetables and sauce from a chinese takeout place. Cod entree was oily and another average dish. We ordered the warm apple tart from the ever-so-friendly waitress and several minutes later she came back to tell us they sold out earlier in the evening. We said we would just skip desert but then a different woman came back and said in its place they would be giving us something else, their compliments. I think it was a pear tart? I'm not sure, it was average like the rest of the meal but it was a nice gesture. The same woman who told us about the complimentary desert had also done damage control with the table next to us when they sent back their huge clams they ordered steamed. She had them taken back to the kitchen and cooked up a different way hoping they'd like them. I think it worked. This place doesn't live up to any hype around it. Pros: food seemed fresh, good variety of seafood Cons: expensive and not worth it more

My New York home away from home. 9/23/2007

On an 8 day trip to New York for business I found this place on my 5th day. My co-worker and I popped in for a post-work drink and decided to stay for dinner. The bar service was excellent (awesome drinks), hostess was very sweet (also from Texas), and there really isn't a bad seat in the place. Chris was our server and he was a hoot! Clever, witty, funny, and knows his stuff about the awesome food avaliable at this joint. We loved it all so much that we came back every night after that. The second night we came in everyone remembered us and was very animated about our return. The third night got even better. If you love great and creative food this is a NYC must. If you want to have great conversation with interesting people who love what they do, this is the place. Everyone that works there seems happy to be working, that has to count for something! When I revist NYC in the fall, Aquagrill is my first stop! Pros: Awesome food, fantastic service, convienetly located, well poured drinks, beautifuly tasty desserts Cons: Its in NYC and I live in Texas :-( more

Romantic Dinner, Amazing Seafood, Great Service!! 9/17/2007
