Teddy's Cafe is in a little non-descript brick building at the corner of Pico and Bundy, across the street from a Taco Bell. I'd usually chosen the T.B. when in the area because it's quick and freeway convenient. But on this particular day the thought of T.B.'s flavorless refried beans and salty ground meat made my stomach curdle. So I decided to suck it up and take a look at Teddy's. I've wasted seven years of my life (that's how long I've lived in L.A.) *not knowing* about Teddy's.
Yes, I am cheap. Yes, I'll occasionally eat artery-clogging food. Yes, I love filling meals that actually taste good. If you've agreed with me on all three counts and haven't been to Teddy's, get up, get in your car, and see what you've been missing.
Price wise, most everything was under $10, with the bulk of the menu hovering around the $5.00 mark... give or take a dollar.
They've got a wide selection of breakfast staples (omlettes, flapjacks, etc.), a solid array of sandwich choices, and a panoply of dinner options... all with sides included.
The drinks: bottomless. The service: excellent, super-fast and super-friendly. The decor: Okay, it look like it was decorated by a lille old lady from Texas and her aging surfer husband, but so what? L.A. is full of restaurants designed by cutting-edge interior decorators... and that must be where all the money went, because the food at most of those places is no great shakes. Teddy's... it only took one trip to convince me to become a regular. If the rest of the menu is as solid as the Reuben and fries I had... man, I'm getting hungry writing this, and I just had lunch. I can't wait to go back.
