Dr. Lionberger has replaced three of my joints - both hips and one shoulder - starting 10 years ago. In every case, the procedure and my options were thoroughly explained to me, as well as what to expect post-surgery. In all cases, he personally called me the evening before surgery, and followed up after surgery. His staff provided detailed instructions on what I had to do before surgery - getting medical clearances, pre-registering, etc. - and post -surgery - meds, incision care, level of activity and rehab, etc. The 10-year old hip is great and still shows no wear. Shoulders are tough - the rehab is much more involved than hips. However, I followed his and the physical therapist's instructions and have a very functional shoulder now. Expect to be at 80% on shoulder rehab in about a year, close to 100% in 2 years. I'm now at 5 years and very happy with the shoulder. Second hip was a month ago. Less invasive than 10 years ago and only 1 night in the hospital. I have been very happy with my treatment and the outcomes of all three replacements. If I have to have another and Dr. Lionberger is still practicing, he will be my guy again.
