The Annie Russel Theater is primarily a place to see live theater. Their season usually coincides with the school year. The put on some great production, and next year they are going to have "starting here, starting now" and "all my sons" by the late Arthur Miller. Sometimes they even have a rock show. I saw the Magnetic Fields there last winter!

New Metropolis is a great little chic furniture in the otherwise banal confines of Winter Park Village. Be aware that it's very expensive, but the prices seem right for what they are selling.
They have chairs, couches, tables, beds, lamps, etc. If you look hard, though, you'll find a wealth of trinkets you can pick for reasonable prices. You'll find everything from oven mitts to aprons, all of which are unique and fun.

Great, albeit small selection, of books in the Thornton park neighborhood of Orlando. They have a small magazine rack stuffed with "hip" magazine fare (I don't think they have "People," that is). And the staff has an interesting collection of picks they put out on tables. This is in contrast to the big box book sellers who rent out their prime real estate to the book companies. Urban Think also has a great section on Florida writers and books about Florida. A must go to place in Orlando! They also have cafe.

Of all of the farmer's markets I've been to...well this one is pretty bad. The produce looks weeks old. There are not many vendors, although you can find a few with some nice crusty bread. This Farmer's market does not have (at least to my knowledge) any local producers of food, which makes me wonder why it's called a "farmer's market" to begin with. On the plus side, it is part of Orlando's attempt to become a real city. So in the interest of supporting culture, buying conventional produce at the farmer's market may be a good idea.

This review refers to the downtown location. It's surprising that Orlando has such a grand library considering that it's not know to be a book town. It has multiple floors, including a book shop and great law library. Downstairs they show movies on a big screen and there's a "teen area" if you have kids. Even if you're not into books, the Downtown library has a lot to offer in movies. They also have lectures from time to time.

The Winter Park Public library is a small place tucked right behind Aloma avenue. It has computers on the ground floor for interest access ( you must be member to use them). They have a fairly good selection of books, movies, etc. Moreover, they have a small bookshop with incredible deals (a dollar or two per book). This goes a long way in combating Central Florida's lack of any real used bookstores. The only complaint is that the library is too small, but what do expect when it severs a relatively small city.

The DMAC (along with the Mad Cow theatre) is the biggest attraction to the downtown "arts scene." The DMAC has a small gallery that always shows top quality paintings and photos. And the movie theater features little know films (films that even art theaters are too wimpy to touch). In the Winter they have a Hispanic film festive, which is a whole heck of a lot of fun. There's a small coffee shop attached to it, as well.

Great Unitarian church in Orlando. At the church there's always something interesting going on, including useful and interesting lectures, a book club, and movies (they are showing Fahrenheit 911 this month). The people are very inviting and in love with diversity, like all good Unitarians.
For those not in the know, Unitarians do not have to be of any particular religious persuasion (or any persuasion for that matter). Sunday services are about philosophy, history, religions, and current affairs.

Typical Pho restaurant in Orlando. They serve beer, and all of your usual Vietnamese dishes. They have terrible music in the joint, though. I think it's electronic Vietnamese muzak. They service is pretty good, and you can get a seat right next to the window to stare out at the people passing buy on Mills Ave. The walls are mirrored, so the places fills spacious. Their Pho comes in two sizes, large and

Park Theaters has been around for a VERY long time. In fact, in the lobby there's a mural of Mr. Disney, and the caption states that he showed a movie previewing the park he planned on building in Orlando. The place is very run down, and some of the staff do not seem entirely happy that you are there. On the other hand, it is cheap. And they do not show exclusively Hollywood staff. Indeed, in the last few months they have shown such Indie movies like "Layer Cake" and "the Life Aquatic."
