NOT a travel agency - Maybe an airfare broker 11/21/2006

I called Asia travel to get help planning a 2 and a half week trip to Japan and Beijing in March. The agent I got was a little confused because I'm going directly north to stay with my daughter when I arrive and wanted a hotel 3 in Tokyo days after I arrived instead of the day I arrive. When I did want help finding a hotel in Tokyo, she was going to put me in Narita, which is where the airport is - about 40 minutes from the city of Tokyo. (I was in Tokyo once in 1984 - I'm not an expert on Japan.) I told her that next I wanted to go to Kyoto. She asked me to spell Kyoto. I asked her if she had heard of Kyoto and she said yes, but still needed me to spell it because there were many towns in Japan and she wanted to make sure she booked for the correct town. OK, I was patient, I spelled it. Then I told her I wanted to go to Hiroshima. I spelled it. Then she asked me to spell it again. I asked her if she had heard of it. "No", she said. "There are many places in Japan and I have not heard of them all". I mentioned that it was the place where America had dropped the first atomic bomb during WWII. She just said she had not heard of the town. I told her that I needed to talk to another travel agency since I was looking for actual help and advice to plan my trip. Maybe if you know (and can spell) exactly where you are going they can get great airfare. I would not call them a travel agency, maybe an airfare broker. The agent had an Asian accent and I assume she was originally from Asia. I understand that Asia is a large place. However I DO expect a place called "Asia Travel" to know some major cities in Japan. more
