I admit that I flat out hate Wal-Mart. I do, I hate that their stores are messy, I hate that nothing ever rings up correctly, I hate that their employees are rude, and I could go on. Most of all though I hate what the are doing to the bottom line, to ethics, and to small town America. Wal-Mart is so bent on having the lowest prices on everything they carry that some of the companies that supply products to them make only pennies on the dollar while Wal-Mart records record making sales every year. Then there is the issue of ethics, I actually saw a manager accuse an employee of stealing right in the craft department! Not to mention that Wal-Mart would rather fire a good employee than pay them retirement. Then we go to the total desolation of small town America, in many small towns, there are no Mom and Pop stores. They can't survive against a giant like Wal-Mart that will do anything to survive! Gone are the quaint little shops that made road trips interesting, that offered unique products and services. Why oh why do we care more about saving a dime at Wal-Mart more than supporting our neighbors in their entrepreneurial endeavors. When did we start loving the dollar more than our neighbor and how do we go back?
