Well I'm pretty pleased with these folks. They open early and on Saturday, they have a good process for getting you checked in, their service staff on the frontline are polite and work hard to get your issues spelled out clearly. LIke most dealer service departments, pricing is high and they use the "book" for hours (meaning they charge you based on a VERY conservative guide to how long it takes to do work rather than the time actually spent).
That said, they are nice folks, their waiting room as satellite TV with a zillion channels and they do pickup/deliver in the local area. And the work is good and gets done as scheduled.

So I had a very problematic situation ... Older BMW with dead battery and electronic locks -- with manual override not working. AAA tried (sent 3 different folks), BMW sent person -- all to no avail. BMW quoted $425 plus towing to get window knocked out and replaced. I called All Star Glass and got somebody who actually listened to the problem and did research. Initially, they recommended the rear window -- remove and then re-install with new metal pieces. Less than 10 minutes later they called me back to say the metal parts and clips would be more than the total cost of the passenger side window. They were right -- I had called BMW for parts pricing (and so had they!). So they came out (in the rain) and did the job. It was quick, they were great and they went the extra mile at every turn. I'm not a big fan of offering up 5 starts but these guys blew me me away with their extra effort on a small (under $200) job. That's unique to my experience in this realm -- and yes, I'm telling everybody I know.

They deserve five stars because:
-- They care. They genuinuely take an interest in helping you get back to where you started (or better).
-- They work hard. The work often is physically brutal and the emotional elements even more so. These guys sustain a level of commitment to results that puts old Al Davis and his crew to shame.
-- They are lovely. It's rare that folks doing work in the medical space can maintain a positive outlook and carry it genuinuely day-to-day. My experience with Joan and Shawn say it's possible. And the rest of their support team plays right off that positive attitude in ways that make it infinitely better than circumstances would often say is possible.
-- They have good support services. You can actually book appointments and count on them being on-time every time. You can change appointments and count on the paperwork being done right. You can count on them handling insurance transactions as close to flawlessly as I have seen.
Just great people doing great work. And that's what the five star rating ought be there to support.

Bob's a wizard of shoulder repair. Having come to him with a 3-D jigsaw puzzle disguised as a shoulder. Major surgery followed; then 10 months of rehab (thanks to Alta-Bates PT for great work, moral support, etc.). About 2/3rd of the way through, minor out-patient surgery to get a couple of axes more usable ...
Anyway, the outcome was excellent -- probably around 95% of the range, stronger than before accident and a tremendous sense of relief as "everyone" other than Bob made it clear that I had committed a crippling accident on my body.
THANKS BOB -- and if your health plan does not allow you to use Bob and you have shoulder problems, change your health plan would be my advice!

What's left to say about Hunan that hasn't been said ... Well a few things:
1) It's reasonably priced (you can't spend more than $20 per person unless alcohol replaces tea and water in your program)
2) It's fast -- even when they're crowded (and it's a place). And it's casual -- you can pretty much come as you are and you'll feel appropriately outfitted ... Suits, jeans, somewhere in-between ...
3) The bar serves a pretty fair cocktail in case you're party shows up in fits and starts.
4) You can usually find on-street parking at night without killing your evening.
5) The food rocks -- especially if you like it spicey. For true fire-eaters, Hunan can rock your world.
6) They don't push food -- you can order what you want, in the order you want it and nobody nags you.
Only negative is that service is impersonal -- but tell me you really care and I'll guess you don't eat at Hunan regularly cause it's too lowbrow for your tastes.

Fred runs a quality auto repair shop. They do first-rate diagnostics, treat you fairly and honestly, and provide real thought as to recommended services. I brought a Lincoln LS to them that had periodic problems with overheating and they not only found and fixed the source of the problem, but identified a problem with the transmission that we had given up on ever solving (a dealer computer fix that the dealer had neglected to do while it was in warranty ... shocking right?).
Anyhow, Fred's give you some reason to believe that auto repair shops can be run well without screwing us consumers OR going out of business! THANKS FRED.
