Menu relies on gimmicks

Friday, September 30, 2005
Sometimes restaurants use trendy ingredients instead of quality to sell their dishes. The Baguette Box is a great restaurant for faux sophisticates, but it's sandwiches won't likely please anyone else. The menu here is spattered with exotic ingredients, which I guess is supposed to impress us. The sandwich I tried there had bread so crusty that I wasn't able to bite through it; biting into it just presses the two pieces of bread together, effectively squeezing out the sandwich's innards. The sandwiches have little meat, but are pricey nonetheless.
