Don’t go to Sushi Express for an authentic Sushi experience. Go to Sushi Express to experience something completely different. The sushi selection is good-to-average, and it covers all of the staples, but nothing too exotic. The atmosphere, however, boarders on the bizarre. Instead of the familiar boats that carry fishy cargo around other sushi bars, Sushi Express employs a toy train set to send its culinary creations around the bar. By contrast, the décor is not train-themed, but rather surfing themed. The owner and sushi chef, himself a former Santa Cruz surfer, is very friendly, and he is always glad to make special rolls to order.

If you love Southern-style BBQ, you’ll think Jimbo’s is the BEST! If you don’t know the difference between Southern-style BBQ and other styles (Texas, Kansas, etc.), go to Jimbo’s for some sweet education. There is nothing fancy about the atmosphere, but it is charming nonetheless, and the quality of the food comes before everything else. I highly recommend the BBQ sandwich with pork, and don’t be shy about helping yourself to the pickle bowl on your table. Don’t you dare leave without trying the exquisite apple pie, drizzled in Jimbo’s unique apple cider sauce.

The ribs are especially nice. The restaurant has the classic ambiance of a shack. Its construction might be described as something between a cabin and a tent. I have no idea how it can withstand the average rain storm, much less the hurricanes of recent years. Clearly, it is the food that keeps the customers coming back after all these years. Or maybe they put an addictive chemical in the sweet sauce…

Indoor seating is on two levels; the main level has cozy tables, and the upstairs level has comfy sofas. I like to sit on the outdoor terrace, but others prefer to sit closer to the live jazz, which pours out of the upstairs windows.

I don’t know of any other Thai restaurant in the Seattle area with better prices, and the cuisine certainly doesn’t suffer for the pricing. Just as important, the service is prompt and friendly.

The Salmon House is awesome on so many levels because it offers a variety of dining experiences. The indoor and outdoor menus are somewhat different, and the bar menu is 50% off from 9:00-Close. How’s that for a Happy Hour? This is truly one of the best spots for inexpensive waterfront dining. With regards to the bar food, I highly recommend the clam strips & chips, the wings, the salmon skewers, and—of course—the chowder. Outside, I enjoy the Cajon fish & chips. The décor reflects local history, and the beer selection is representative of local favorites, including Mack & Jacks (very,very important).
