This mom and pop Italian hole in the wall is a great place to grab a quick informal and inexpensive bite to eat. It isn't fine dining but the food is perfectly acceptable and the service is always friendly. Because this is a low key restaurant, don't expect extravagant decor, flatware, or silverware. The booths are red vinyl and think fancy pizza hut for Italian decoration. The restaurant is often staffed by the local high school students. The food lacks presentation but is always fresh, hot, and tasty. They provide yummy hot garlic rolls when you sit down but the salads kinda suck as they usually drowned in dressing. We've gone there on Friday and Saturday nights and have not had to wait.

We have always been very happy with the food, service, and atmosphere at Thai-Pan. My wife and I have been there half a dozen times for dinner and even took my parents there when they came to visit. So far, everybody loves it. I used to go to the Thai restaurant called Samui just a minute down the road but I prefer Thai-Pan now. It even seems a little less expensive than Samui. When you sit down, they give you a free appetizer of shrimp/rice chips that are very tasty and unique. The decor is pleasing and consistent right down to the pretty dishes they serve on. The whole place has a family flair you can't get at a chain store.

The Natatorium has two large pool areas, one large 25 meter lap/diving pool and a kids area complete with a lazy river and large playing structure. I'm a lap swimmer and out of the last 100+ times I've gone there to swim laps, I've only had to wait on a lane 3 or 4 times. They also have a very nice computerized gym. The equipment remembers your seat and weight settings for you (once you put in your PIN#). They offer a ton of special workout classes and have rooms dedicated to them. The staff is friendly and membership is CHEAP! $165/year/person with discounts for large families. At no charge they even had a personal trainer go around to all the weight equipment with me and calibrate it for me. They even have a small rock climbing wall in the lobby, although it seems like I only see kids using it. The only downside is that it is not open 24 hours a day like some of the private gyms.

We are absolutely impressed with the new Allen public Library. It is many times larger than the one it replaced. It has all the things you would expect a library to have plus some unique features. There are plenty of computers and they offer free internet access. A wonderful mom-n-pop coffee house called "Coffee Dreams" resides in the Lobby. They have several large meeting rooms and a bunch of small group/individual study rooms as well. They have an auditorium. There is a huge kids section, a "quiet" room for people that want that and lots of interesting artwork hanging in display cases that get changed out often. Overall, I'd say it is the nicest public library I've ever been to. Oh, and they don't limit membership to residents of Allen, people living in surrounding cities can become members too.
