I have been seeing Psychiatrists since I first starting having trouble with major depression at age nineteen -- I'm 41 now, so you can do the math. I have tried psychoanalysis, cognitive therapy, you name it. I've probably spent over $200,000 to date.
In the end, I decided that talk therapy, while comforting in the short term, was really not getting me anywhere and that, at least for me, meds were the primary recourse.
I have been seeing Dr. Birk since my last major crash in 2005.
I have found that, while my initial reaction was that she was over-medicating me, her choices of meds have really helped me. Most recently, I had terrible trouble sleeping. I went to a neurologist specializing in sleep disorders. The neurologist was not able to help me at all.
The next time I saw Dr Birk, she made some fairly substantial changes to my meds which made me feel like my old self within 48 hours.
I cannot speak to her skills as a psychoanalyst, but looking back over my last 2 years with her, I don't think she has made a single mis-step on the meds.
That being said, my first bit of advice is that if you don't feel a good match with any doctor, try someone else. Second, remember that you are your own best primary care physician and best primary psychiatrist. It is up to you to remind doctors of what has worked in the past and what you feel would be good changes to try. These doctors are not machines. With hundreds of patients under their care, they can't remember every nuance of every thing you've ever told them.

Dr. Berenhaus fixed my contact lens problem, I had been all over town trying to get it right. He teaches other doctors how to prescribe contact lenses and has almost every prescription in stock. His office is neat, clean, and has the latest computers to check my eyes without me having to guess at different lenses. It was an overall excellent experience and it seems that others feel the same, everyone who entered or left the office seemed to be smiling.

I went to Bethesda Dental Associates for a checkup and had 2 cavities, so had to go back to get them filled. The dental hygenist who did the cleaning was really nice, and very up front that the flouride treatment was not covered by my insurance and told me how much it was before administering it. That was nice! The dentist herself was great, and the cavity appointment wasn't too bad. The reception staff is great and they explained the billing process to me very well.
The office is a block from the Bethesda metro There is very limited parking so I recommend taking the metro.

Dr. Beech is an excellent chiropractor & she has treated me often. When I had an emergency back sprain she took excellent care of me and added me into her schedule. I recommend her. I am not very fond of her office staff whom I find to be unfriendly and incompetent. Luckily her skill level off-sets this. When she went out of town & I was in acute pain, she arranged for me to have the cell phone number of another chiropractor for the weekend just in case the pain got out of control.

I went to see Ms. Skopets June of 2005. I have to say Ms. because (in my opinion, she didn't act like a doctor) I informed Ms. Skopets I'd been experiencing pain and jumping in my face. Ms. Skopets tapped my knee, and put her stethoscope on my heart. I asked her if she could take my blood or do some exrays as well. I even went so far as to offer blood I'd given a week earlier from another Dr. in the bldg so she wouldn't even have to take it herself. (imagine begging a doctor to do tests) Ms. Skopets told me it was nothing and I shouldn't worry. Well I learned afterwards my insurance didn't cover my visit with her so I had to pay out of pocket. I felt then and now I don't owe her one dime but she has a lawyer and has threatened to sue and a judgment against me would hurt my credit. As a result, I have set up a payment plan and will pay her. I just want to advise other people about my experience with Ms. Skopets.

His office, which is located in the Four Eyes on Wisconsin in Bethesda, is quite small. You must make an appointment, since his office is so small, he can't take any walk ins. You must arrive early, because if you are late, your appointment can quickly be pushed back.
Otherwise, he is a very friendly doctor, and is very good at communicating any problems. His rates are reasonable, and this is definitely a place I would come back to again in the future.
His office is also metro accessible.
