The Waterside Marketplace is a fun place to go, but is nothing spectacular. There are several restaurants there to choose from, from the fast food places in the food court (mostly local, non-chain places) to sitdown places like the Outback and Diesel Pizza. There are a few shops in the marketplace, as well, including a small newspaper stand-type shop and a dollar store. The view from the upper deck of Waterside is fantastic, as it looks directly over the Elizabeth River. If you're looking for a great place to eat but aren't exactly sure what you want, try Waterside ... there's plenty to choose from, and you can do a bit of shopping while you're at it.
