If you can't afford to take your family to a theme park, then you probably can afford to take them to this amazing home of fish and other sea wildlife. Regular price cost are about $20 an adult and $12 for children, and if your a Long Beach resident, you get a 1/3 price off discount. Whats also cool is that if you pay a little bit extra, you get to take the "behind the scenes tour." Basically, the whole inside of the building is filled with giant aquariums holding sealife from all around. You can walk up to the glass and see the breathtaking scenes of fish moving by with in schools and you can watch the scary sharks swim around looking for something to munch on. You can also see seahorses, and brightly colored fish bob around in the water. You can also see the amazing sea otters joke around and act foolishly with one another. You can learn everything you want to know by taking a guided tour throughout the acquarium. There is plenty of more sealife that you can see that I haven't went over yet, and this is definately an experience you can't miss.

The Queen Mary is one of the landmark attractions of Long Beach, along with one of its most notorious debtors. The famed ocean liner is a neat place to visit, and it is a definite must to take out of town visitors to the observation deck for a drink. Admission is $10, but free after dark. Parking is somewhere around $8, but there are free shuttles from downtown LB, so that's a good option. The rooms are cool, still vintage but clean. They are small, but it is a trip to be on the boat.

I have been to MOLAA many times over the years and I always enjoy it. The musuem is very small (read: cozy) and friendly. Great exhibits all the time. If you love latin american art, I highly recommend MOLAA. Nice collection.

More
The El Dorado Birthday Train is such a fun place to go for the entire family. The train goes around the park and is such a neat ride for kids and adults alike. The park itself is really very nice as well with lots of trees around and a beautiful lake. Rides are available for the lake on a paddle boat or a row boat at an additional fee. But these boat rides are a lot of fun as well and an educational experience for kids where parents can take the opportunity to teach their kids the technique of rowing a boat and boat safety.

More
Fingerprints is something of an little bohemian oasis on the upper crust sidewalks of Belmont Shore in Long Beach. A big little record store, the selection is heavy on Indie rock, but there are small but well-maintained sections of jazz and classical as well. Hip older rock--timeless stuff like the Stones and all kinds of psychedelia--is represented pretty well in the stacks. They make a strong effort to get limited edition vinyl pressings and have some great rare vinyl. I don't think they pay especially well for used music--they aren't bad, but they aren't as good as Rockaway or Amoeba--but they do buy just about everything. They have unbelieveable in-store performances...Jonathon Richman, Dave Alvin, Iron & Wine, even Patti Smith have all played there.

I highly recommend this shop if you are looking for some authentic and unique. I lost a cowery shell bracelet that I purchase at Village Treasures, and I visited at least a half dozen shops in different states to no avail. Finally, I had an opportunity to return to Long Beach 6 months later and yes, Village Treasures had one left. I love that shop, the owner is very knowledgeable, and pleasant to talk to.
