Walleye? 10/6/2010

We were a party of 8 adults and three (well behaved) children so our selections covered most of the cafe's menu. The ""world record"" was over cooked and served 'naked'. Saving money by not offering the usual garnish? Bad idea. The Yellowstone burger was just a burger. I had a nondescript rendition of a standard burger. Nothing to write home about. My brother-in-law had the so-called ""Yellowstone Walleye"" he felt it was actually Walleye but I know for a fact that it wasn't from Yellowstone as there are NO Walleye in the park, period. I was surprised that the Yellowstone Cafe didn't have Bison on the menu, even as a burger (our waitress didn't even know what a 'Bison burger' was!) there was another item which certainly could be offered which was notable by it's absence. Trout. Really! With all the fishing oriented decor you'd think trout would be a special if not a feature. Trout, after all, is what Yellowstone, the park and the river, are best known for as far as fishing is concerned. Slough Creek is a world famous fly fishing venue in YNP. Speaking of decor, there were only a few images and items that I associate with YNP. Of course I am biased, I have worked in Yellowstone and traveled extensively in the park and the surrounding ecosystem. If the Yellowstone Cafe were mine, I'd at least change the menu to include Bison and Trout, forget the Walleye, perhaps even add Elk. I suspect that the owners just wanted a cool name and I also suspect that they have never been to YNP or if they have, they saw it from a tour bus window. more
