I have driven by this place a 1000 times in the past decade and walked by it 100s of times but i never stopped in until today. I figured i would give it a visit before it was no more.
Stopped in for a Reuben at lunch. I was immediately taken back at the completely empty restaurant. There literally wasn't a soul in the place at 11:50 on a Monday. I picked up a menu and went immediately for a Reuben. I was offered some water while I waited. Friendly staff. The menu was a bit pricey. It was a cash only place and everything on the menu was 8.95. no sandwich for 5 or 6 bucks. No special and the sandwiches came with a pickle nothing else. That being said. There is another Cleveland favorite around here called Slyman's everyone swears by their corned beef and I agree. The Sportsman however was JUST as good as Slyman's and for me just a block from work. It will be sad to see this place go but I got to grab a sandwich from them before that happened.
Pros: Fresh Cut Corned Beef. Great food
Cons: They are about to be bulldozed by the downtown medical mart.
