I also ate at Mamalindas several times in 2004. My experience is different from Gabriel's. I thought the food was good and found the owner very friendly. Her restaurant became like a home to me while I was in New York, a place I could go and be greeted warmly and given a good meal at a moderate price. And I too enjoyed the cold bottles of Quilmes.
