Perhaps when a restaurant has been treated as an institution for as long as Threadgill's, its patrons stop demanding top quality and its management starts coasting.
All the down-home dishes at Threadgill's are perfectly okay, but none of them are special. The ""famous"" chicken fried steak isn't notably better than you'd get at Luby's. They'd do well to spend less time hanging old photos of Janis Joplin and more time working on the menu.
