Convenient and friendly checkout... 1/15/2009

For a quick, 'grab everything for dinner' mart, the Foodmaster rocks! The checkout ladies are really nice... The other commentors are right... it is a tired, old building with grubby carpet and prices aren't that great but you can get wine, meat, veggies, seafood, milk, etc. for a meal or two in a really short time and be on your way... fast... I live in the neighborhood and I go there 3/4 times a week to get my stuff but when I am out and about, I'll definitely stock up on everything possible at gourmet and at discount grocers... If you're in the neighborhood, its a good place to get stuff quick without having to walk 1/2 mile past a bakery, cheese shop and florist to get a gallon of milk and a newspaper... Just don't look at the carpet... more

Conveniently Located But Don't Buy Meat or Produce Here! 3/18/2006

I live literally 2 minutes from Foodmaster, which makes it a very convenient place to shop. My husband and I have figured out that certain things there are cheaper than Shaw's, but not everything (you have to do some price comparisons). We like going there to buy bread, chips, pasta, things like that. We tried buying meat and produce, but it never ends up looking so good (food poisoning just waiting to happen). Their bakery items are good though! and they always have samples! Save this grocery store for small, quick purchases. Save the bigger trips for Shaws! more

Kind of strange, but good prices... 3/17/2006

Johnny Foodmaster is an interesting supermarket. I don't visit very often, because there are closer markets to my house, but I have been a couple of times. I get their flyer every week in my mailbox and, to be sure, their loss leader prices are impressive. They probably have the best deals to get you in the door out of any supermarket in the area, but it is strange once you get inside. For one thing, the entire store is carpeted! I do think that this does not make sense in a supermarket - it creates a dirty feeling when you are there and there is an odd oder in the air. The food selection is decent and the service is fine. Overall, I'd suggest checking it out for the few great deals they have each week, but probably only if you are already in the area. more

Oh no no no 2/9/2006

Johnny's Foodmaster is my local grocery store and is absolutely wretched. The carpeting on the floors (everywhere!) does less for the homey feel and more for the reek-of-everything-that-has-ever-spilled. The entire store smells like old milk and garbage, and the prices are not nearly low enough to justify the shopping experience. I shop at the Foodmaster out of necessity, nothing else. more

I love Foodmaster! 11/11/2005

Foodmaster is a wonderful little supermarket. It's often busy, but never so crowded that you have to wait in long lines at checkout. The staff is generally friendly and helpful. The selection, considering the size of the market, is wonderful, and the prices of many foods (especially chicken!!) are so cheap. They sell alcohol as well, which is a nice feature in such a small market. I would put Foodmaster in the "perfect" category except for the prices of their produce, which is expensive. The shopping carts are a nice smaller size, and the floors are carpeted, giving Foodmaster more of a homey feel. It's nice to go to a supermarket that is more humble than overly commercial, and has prices that don't make you cringe! more
