If you are new to Phoenix, and are looking to do some learning and have some fun, check out the Gardens. They have every kind of cactus and tree and flower that you can possibly imagine. There are educational displays and many learning opportunities. If you are around in November-December, do not miss the Luminarias. The Garden is decorated with lights and festive decorations, for nighttime enjoyment. In addition to the beauty of walking through at night, you also get serenaded by a variety of musicians. This was the most fun I have had in a long while.

Castles N Coasters is a nice place for family and friends. My friend found this place on the internet and got us all $5 off coupons. They've got good rides but off course, nothing compares to those big theme parks. The Sky Diver ride blew me away and the Desert Storm roller coaster ride literally killed my voice.

Wow, this place has it all. It is so big that you really need two days to go through it all. They have so many exhibits, my favorite is the science area. They explore everything from addictions and personality traits to how the human body works. It is great for adults and kids alike.

The Phoenix Art Museum has brought in big names, such as Monet. The Monet exhibit was professionally designed and well planned. The art museum provided guided tours, which allowed art newbies to gain additional insight to the paintings. When the Phoenix Art Museum isn't hosting one of the most famous exhibits, they have a decent collection of up and coming Arizona artists as well as other famous painters. Worth taking a look at.

We went to Encanto park for a birthday party and really enjoyed it there. They had a lake that you could fish in and many areas to eat at. Excellent play equipment for the kids. The park seemed to pretty clean, the day we were there. We would go back again.

Burton Barr Library is located in the central downtown area of Phoenix. I'm from the Chicago suburbs and went to my local library there and thought that was big. This library is immense! I've only dabbled a little into what they have available there. There is 280,000 square feet of it at 5 stories...now that's a lot of books! Well, the great thing is that there are more than books. Among the extras at this library that has been at this site for a little more than 10 years is the following:
-10,000 foot Children's Section with a story room
- A Special Needs Center with adapted computer equipment
- Ongoing events and exhibits
- Wireless Internet access for your notebook, laptop or PDA
- Arizona room on the 4th floor which contains a collection of books, maps and other materials reflecting the heritage, lifestyle and geography of the Southwest desert from prehistoric times to modern day.
- A great website! www.phoenixpubliclibrary.org tells you all about the great things at this library. You can check out what books are available at the library right from your own computer and put it on hold.
And last but not least, I frequent the 5th floor the most and they have a spectacular view of the city from there.

We use this place to rent ski equipment and snowboards prior to heading to any resort or slope. The prices here are much less than what we get at slopes and the quality of equipments is comparable, even better. They have a wide variety of things so you can pick the one best suited to your budget and needs

Sportsmans has an amazing selection of wine and other spirits. They are a great place to just take different wines and explore your palate. They have a nice, small menu of wine appropriate foods and cheeses and there is always a great pairing for your chosen wine. The staff is somewhat helpful, but the busier it gets, the less they are willing to walk the novice through the basics.

Just happened to come across this area one day while driving. They have great hiking with excellent views. Although the inclines can get a bit steep (handrails up a hill of solid rock), it is a fun hike to do. The paths aren't marked the best, but you can see where the general path goes. There are also two other hiking options that are easier (one goes to a lookout close to the parking lot). Definitely recommended to go and check it out!

More
This is my preferred comic shop in the Phoenix. I think I have visited all of them, but this is the best. It is a large store in a bit of an out-of-the-way location, so parking is never a problem. It is right outside the Metro Center Mall. They have a huge selection of new and used comics, along with action figures, trading cards, graphic novels, shirts, and lots of other goodies. The place is always well staffed so getting help (if needed) or a recommendation is never a problem. Whether you are coming in to buy a $1000 back issue or just want to browse the new releases, they treat you well here. Highly recommended!
PROS: big store, lots of parking available
CONS: none
