This is a perfect park for downtown! The views are magnificient and the fountains are so suited to Charleston. The funniest thing are the signs in front of the fountains. Take the time to read it and you will be guaranteed to laugh. It actually says no nose picking and it says you may not bath in the fountain alone! The swings on the dock are very comfortable and it is so peaceful to sit there and look out on the water. It is the perfect place to find peace and quiet in the city of Charleston!

Ft. Sumter was where the Civil War (or War Against The States) was innitiated.
There are several places to take the tour, one originates downtown, the other from Patriot's Point in Mt. Pleasant.
The tour is via ferry, and can be chilly during the wintertime, so make sure to dress warmly then (even in spring and late summer when the winds are chilly). The Fort itself is unassuming and has definitely seen better days. Of course, it was built several hundred years ago and amazingly still stands proudly to this day.
Tours are self-guided (as far as I know) and you can spend your leisure walking around the grounds. There is a museum there that tells of the fort's history before and after the Civil War.
Very informative and a definite must-see for anyone who is a local or a tourist.

During the fall to spring, the South Carolina Stingrays (Ice Hockey) play games at the North Charletson Coliseum. During intermission, they have fun things to keep the kids attention. It's just a good fun, safe place to take the kids and tickets are very reasonable. Kids under 12 pay less. A fun outing.

The Charleston Riverdogs is a fairly new team to Charleston and they have a new awesome stadium downtown. They have fun "theme" nights and encourage familes to come watch games. Admission is cheap and kids can join their club and get free general admission seats. They have fireworks every Friday night and special events. They have autograph events for the kids, some camps in the summer (like baseball camp, etc). It's just a neat place to go and it's inexpensive. You do have to pay to park so keep that in mind.

As a tourist, I may be less than impressed with the museum. Considering Charleston is such a historic city, I have high aspirations for the museum and what it can become.
As a teacher, I am impressed with how far they are willing to go to help us out. Since we are very limited in field trips for our students, the museum comes to the schools and brings exhibits. This is so important since our kids don't get a chance to see what is in their backyards other than in school. The museum is extremely flexible and I am in love with that aspect of it.

These cottages are the perfect getaway for anyone! They have different sizes, but you do need to reserve ahead of time. We generally do so about a year ahead of time. There are discounts available for passholders and county residents and they are well worth the money as they are clean and cheerful. The park has lots of trails, a splash park, spray area, playground, fishing, paddle boats, a dog park and much more. A great place to vacation!

I was extremely excited for this museum to open and am impressed with what is there. There is a Shrimp Boat where children can practice being shrimpers which is really cool as shrimping is a big tradition in this area. There are always arts and crafts to do and the baby area is to die for. It's hard to find play areas for babies, but the one here is perfect. My children enjoy the block building area, but I wish there was more for kids above the age of 6. I would reccomend the museum to kids ages 6 months thru 6 years.
