I have been visiting this museum since childhood and have not grown tired of it yet. As you enter the museum you are greeted by the dinosaurs, seeing just how tiny we are compared to these beasts from the past is awe inspiring. One of my favorite things to do in the museum is to walk through the volcano exhibit. The Natural History & Science Museum will be enjoyed by all young and old.

Indian Pueblo Cultural Center Museum is a great place to get to know many of New Mexico's native tribes (I believe there are about 20). There is a children's section in the museum that teaches young ones about the history and culture of regional native American tribes, they are able to handle native American artifacts and kids just love this hands on section.

I have purchased several pieces for my home and as gifts in the last two years. They have a good selection of artwork in many different mediums and styles. The staff is very helpful! They do a great job with quality framing. I have purchased several beautiful pieces at reasonable prices as gifts for departing coworkers. Each piece has been very much appreciated!

The National Atomic Museum was awesome. I've always been fascinated with nuclear stuff - especially the history - and regularly check out Los Alamos when I'm near Santa Fe. We were in Albuquerque for the New Mexico Marathon this weekend and stayed around the corner from the museum (in fact the marathon made its final turn at the corner of the Atomic and Art museum.) The exhibit was great - well organized, tons of unique history, and good video / audio / pictures. It's easily worth an hour for anyone interested in nuclear history. And - as a special bonus - the museum store is great.

Awe-inspiring, telling the history of nuclear weapons and power, but it isn't free anymore. It'll only cost you $3 or $4 (kids free, youths and seniors $3), but they do charge for entry these days.
Pros: Not crowded, Friendly staff, Decent parking
Cons: Depressing content, prozac-inducing

The Enchanted Southwest is a pretty good place to take out of town guests to buy native American souvenirs. They carry sterling silver, turquoise, and other Native American jewelry. You can also find great c lay and ceramic pottery from many of the local tribes in the southwest region. You can also find rugs, misc. tourist stuff like magnets, kachinas, clothing , etc. Their pieces are rather reasonable.
