This place is a nightmare. 10/14/2008

I went here once and will never go again. I encourage you all to save yourself some money, aggravation and a ruined evening. Pros: Their drinks are tasty if you can manage to get the bartenders' attention. Cons: Bad and Overpriced Food, Inept Service and Management. more

Best food tasty and healthy too!!- 8/31/2008

First, I go to a restaurant for the food-What I love about the z-square food is that it is always tastes great and it ""feels healthy"" too. I can sit with friends and have apps, dinner and desert and I am not troubled by salt or ""food hangover"" when I eat there. The food is interesting but not pretensious, healthy but not sprouts and tofu. The price is fair and affordable, great for a crowd. It is always great. It is my favorite either for dinner or drinks and a nibble at the bar. btw- solid drinks- some interesting new ones and they make a great vodka martini. Pros: love the food and setting Cons: center of Harvard Square, more

Fun but inconsistant. 8/26/2008

This is a nice place to go on a casual night out. My husband and I have gone to Z Square on three different occasions. Once we both found the food and drinks to be great. A second time I was still pleased, but my husband was less enthused with his dish and the server messed up the drink order twice. The third time we went with another couple and I would say we all left happy. Service seems to be inconsistant. They have a fun and pretty varied menu selection. They do get 5 stars from me as far as being flexible goes. My friend has some pretty severe allergy issues. The chef came out to our table, wrote down what she could and could not eat, and then created a dish just for her that was outstanding. She had not had a good experience eating out in months until we went to Z Square. Pros: Nice menu selections. Cons: Service isn't the best. more

Sorely Lacking... 8/3/2008

After reading about this place, I would have thought it would be much more interesting at the very least aesthetically. However, the attempt at modern design was pretty awful, and worse than that was the wretched and completely horrendous 80s soft pop they were playing. At one point, I commented to the bartender about it, and she said that others had complained about the music as well, but she liked it. Unless you have a thing for really lame 80s soft rock/pop, avoid this place! Pros: Nothing Cons: Atmosphere, music more

very mediocre 7/29/2008

The upstairs cafe area is fine. Nothing spectacular but good enough for a quick bite. However, the service downstairs is terrible and the food is only mediocre. I've gone back more times that I'd like to admit because they have a reliable Belgian waffle, but the coffee is often a little off and the wait staff is terrible about refilling. Other breakfast items are often too salty. Moreover, twice now I've heard other patrons very upset over their experience at nearby tables, whether it's not getting their drink order or getting the wrong order. The location is good but I usually leave feeling disappointed. Pros: location Cons: service more

Be prepared for rude patrons 6/13/2008

My date & I went to Z Squre about 2 weeks ago. It was a Friday night but early - about 6:30. We walked in & were told we could wait for 45 min. for a table in the dining room or sit in the bar area and eat - not a problem. There are two large tables in the bar area as well as plenty of counter seating at the bar as well as all around the room. We grabbed one of the tables since we wanted to have drinks, apps, & dinner. The apps were excellent (asian dumplings & scallops) and the drinks were good (martini list to choose from). We were having an great time until the bar area started to fill up. Really it was just one party of 6 people that then began to expand by twos every 10 minutes for about an hour. Despite there being counter seating all over the room they sat in the corner at the end of our table and then proceeded to take over half of the table!! Putting their dirty glasses on it, etc. while we were trying to eat our dinner. I could see if we were just sitting there having drinks but when you see two people having dinner at a table would you seriously throw your napkin with gum wadded in it on the table?! The bartender had to come over to repeatedly bring them drinks and never once said a word to them about encroaching on the diners at the table (at one point one of them was actually leaning on the back of my date's chair!) that were paying over $100 to have dinner there. Although, he did comp my drink when he forgot about it. The herd left before dessert but by then I was so irritated we went elsewhere to finish out the night. Which was sad because dinner was cooked to perfection (steak with onion strings) so I bet dessert would have been tasty. Pros: Interesting menu, great food Cons: Shouldn't suggest dinner in the bar area if they aren't going to ensure your enjoyment more

wonderful everything 10/10/2007

Z-square contains everything I love in a restaurant. There are so many options to choose from on the menu, both for food and drinks. The atmosphere is great, we were seated in the downstairs section which was set in a very comfortable lighting. Our waitress was a sweetheart and treated us great. There is also a patio and upstairs cafe area, both looked light different restaurants, but its all the same. I don't know why I never knew this place existed! Highly recommended for anyone visiting Harvard Square for dinner and drinks. Pros: right in harvard sq., comfortable more

very firendly service 10/6/2007

I liked most things about this place, friendly service, nice atmosphere, nice menu and wine list. However, I was disappointed to notice that service was slow and some of the food was not as good as I thought it would be. Pros: very friendly, nice atmosphere Cons: slow service more

A lovely surprise! 5/14/2007

We happened upon this beautiful and comfortable restaurant in Harvard Square and can't say enough about what a lovely dining experience it was! It's always a nice thing when traveling to find a gem. Great service, great food and a beautiful ambiance. Highly recommend you stop in when in the area! more

New-ish spot with cute cafe, classy bar and cosy restaurant... 5/13/2007

New-ish spot across from Harvard. They have a place in Greenbrae, California that I like so I wanted to check this out while I was visiting my sister in Boston. We met up with some friends, had a wonderful lunch and then hung out at the bar. I loved the squash/apple soup and curry chicken salad. I'd like to go again and check out the patio during the Summer... guess it's time to visit sis again. Pros: choices! reasonable priced, good fresh healthy food Cons: far from home more

Great restaurant for breakfast, lunch, or dinner 5/12/2007

I've eaten at Z Square several times for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The breakfast is very good, with really niced baked goods and good coffee. The dining room is very nice and provides a quiet, relaxing atmosphere for breakfast. Pros: Atmosphere, food well executed, friendliness more

Much-needed addition to Harvard Square 4/28/2007

Z Sqaure is a solid place to go for stylish decor and reliable food with pizzaz, all in a comfortable environment. The steak, panninis, sausage plate, breakfast scrambles, are all recommended. The cocktail list is creative, but not always well executed. All in all, Z Square is a much-needed hangout where you can go again and again alone, on a date, or with friends. The food is good, the service is friendly, and you don't have to feel like you're in a sports bar (like many other restaurants in the Boston-Cambridge area). more

Best Wings and Burger 4/9/2007

I've eaten at this place twice already. The first time I had the wings, they are insane good. I love buffalo wings so much that I actually put hot sauce in my coffee. The wings here are chipotle not buffalo and they are the best wings I have ever had. The second time I went I had the burger. It had some spices on it that just brought out the flavor of the organic beef. The perfect meal from this place would be wings and a burger, although it would be tough to finish. If you like burgers and wings you have got to try this place out. Pros: Wings & Burger, service Cons: parking, the beer list is limited more
