I really wasted my time and money 7/10/2009

I hate to write a bad review, it's just not me. This my first ever, because I feel so strongly and am so bothered by my experience. I was at this spa yesterday afternoon for an eyelash extension. I told the girl I had this done before at 2 different places, one was good, one was bad, and what I liked and disliked about both. She assured me she's very experienced and detailed oriented. While she worked on me, she constantly talked about herself meeting guys through match and wanting to find an older white man who's financially stable and can afford her and asked me numerous times to introduce her to someone. She also tried several times to sell me on other treatments and products. And she told me I NEED to go back in 1-2 weeks for eyelash refill. I said in my past experience, I went back 6-8 weeks, and still looked decent at 8 weeks. She said it was up to me, most of her clients go back 1-2 weeks. Now I know why. First, they charge $20 more for every week you don't go back starting at $40 for 2 weeks, so $60 at 3 weeks, $80 at 4 weeks. And more importantly, her work does NOT last even for 2 hours. I did not touch or get anything on my eyes, they are already falling off as I was leaving the spa. After she was done, I looked in the mirror and I didn't look glamorous like I remember I did the last many times I had eyelash extensions and refills done. I thought maybe it's just me... but really, they looked dull and somewhat fake. I also can see them when my eyes are fully open. She tried to push them up and didn't work. She end up saying my own eyelashes are naturally pointing downwards, and they are not easy to work with and that's the way they are going to be, she thinks they will be okay and I will get use to them. But I never saw the extensions in the past even when they were much more fuller and long lasting. After I got home, I looked closely in the mirror, 3 eyelashes at each eye were just hanging and about to fall off. I picked the 6 off easily with a tweezer. Then I realized how she didn't glue a lot of the eyelashes right. They are glued not at the end close to my skin, but somewhere in the middle of a lash. To start with, they were suppose to be glued to new short lashes for them to last longer, not just any lash to stay on temporarily. And I think that's why they are bothering me and waking me up to write this review at 5 am. And that wasn't the only 6 that came off, I have had 8 more that came off since then and it's only been 14 hours since they were placed. I feel like I really wasted my time and money at this place. The facility was clean, but not as high end as their pricing, and the staffs were not friendly at all. I really don't want to go back and I need to go somewhere to take all these lashes off. They are just poking and bother my eyes. Pros: clean Cons: bad work, unfriendly staff, pricy for what they are more

Average Experience 9/13/2008

I would rate Spa Xanadu as an average experience --for both massage and facial. I got the 1 hour Xanadu massage -- and well, I was not very impressed at all -- it was okay and I don't know how to pin point as to why it wasn't GREAT, it just wasn't what I'm used to ? The facial was the same . The staff was friendly though and I didn't get a sales pitched as to what I should get or buy --they recommended some items but did not push. The steam room was not turned on :( but we didn't get the mandantory 15-20% gratuity pitch. Overall I just felt that the service/spa treatment was just "meh... average" I probably will not go back though since I'm got the Burke and Williams weekday card -- which will bring the price down to about the same range Spa Xanadu charges. Pros: parking was easy (in the back) Cons: average service more

A Special Place 9/10/2007

I celebrated my birthday with a spa package at Spa Xanadu and I am glad I did. The staffs there were very friendly and courteous. My appointment was on time, done right and professional. I was not rush or feel pressured. It was very nice and relaxing. They offer variety of facial and body treatments that I can select from. This is a place that I will keep going back and not get tired of. Pros: variety of facial and body treatments Cons: parking more

High Prices, Low Quality, Sales Pressure and Noisy 6/5/2007

I'm ok with paying high prices. It's not like I get treatments everyday. Xanadu charges high prices, but the services I received was not worth it. I came here on a promotion and I'll never come back again. The put a mandatory gratuity % over the regular price. In addition to that, the steam room was not even on. I turned it on, waited 20 minutes for it to warm up. I wanted to go into the Jacuzzi while I waited, but was told that swimsuits are mandatory. Why didn't they tell me that when I booked the appointment? I ended up sitting in a quiet room watching TV for half an hour. When my appointment finally started, my therapist tried to sell me cellulite cream. I'm a 30 year old female who has never been pregnant and have no cellulite. My therapist focused our session not on relaxation, but on products I SHOULD buy if I want to prevent having cellulites in the near future. So Let me get this straight, I'm spending money to listen to a sales pitch? It was NOT relaxing for me at all. In addition to that, the whole time, I can hear another therapist's cell phone ringing, I can also hear that therapist chit chatting on the cell phone, and warming her food in the microwave at the same time. For those people who wrote good reviews, I really challenge them to go to another spa. You don't have to believe what I wrote, but if you been to other spas, try this one once and you'll regret it. Pros: Parking Cons: Price, Service, Sales Pressure, Noise, Facility more

Spa Xanadu is wonderful... 5/19/2007

My daughter treated me to a Mother?s Day Package that I will remembers years to come. The staff at Spa Xanadu made me feel welcome as soon as I step into the door. The receptionist was friendly and helpful with my questions. Both of my therapists made me very comfortable and relax during my services. I was pampered all the way through. The Jade Stone Massage was the best, highly recommended. I am looking forward to enjoy a day at Spa Xanadu again with my husband on Father?s Day. Pros: Variety of day spa treatments, facials and massages Cons: do not provide hair service more

Had issue - was resolved by Spa Director 5/18/2007

I had an issue that was eventually resolved by the Spa Director - I am willing to put that aside and give this spa a high rating - the ambience is very nice as is the staff. Pros: Friendly staff + nice ambience more

long-time client 5/16/2007

I've been a loyal client to Spa Xanadu's director, Donna. I've known her for 15 years and she has taken care of my skin since. There hasn't been one time that I've been unhappy with Spa Xanadu. Their staff is very helpful, honest, & courteous, they try their hardest to satisfy your needs and it goes unnoticed. I've put complete trust into Spa Xanadu & I count on them for my skin care. Pros: relaxing atmosphere, very courteous staff, excellent customer service more

Not a great spa 4/23/2007

I went there to get a facial as part of the spa week promotion. It was supposed to be an hour long. It started 10 minutes late and ended 10 minutes early. I never saw any of the "spa facilities." Instead, I was taken to a "relaxing" room where some odd Cirque du Soleil thing played on the TV. Needless to say, it wasn't very relaxing. Plus, they neglected to inform me before I got there that there was a MANDATORY 15% gratuity. Not 15% on the spa week promotional price, but 15% on the regular price. The facial itself was OK. But I definitely won't be going back. There are far better spas in the LA area. THis one is mediocre. Pros: the tea was good Cons: didn't give me my full hour! more

The Finest Service and Facilities Any Time and Any Day!!! 10/21/2006

I was looking for a place where there wasnt 10 women in the same spa facilities at the same time like a Glen Ivy, AMADEUS, or Burk Williams! I would describe it as the perfect place to be one on one with tranquility! From the moment i walked into the spa they treated me very well. I am a older woman that is addicted to spas and Spa Xanadu is now my new home! more

This is what I call a SPA! 10/18/2006

I took my girlfriends here with me and we all had the best time. The staff was so warming. I had a facial and it was great. She took her time to let me know the problem areas of my skin and actually cared about my skin. I hvae very sensitive skin and she knew how to handle that. They also have a great spa facility. You get a steam room, sauna and Jacuzzi. Making appoinments were easy and they are more than happy to assit you. Pros: Parking is easy, Service is great more

Best Spa in the San Gabriel Valley! 10/18/2006

If you want to enjoy a nice relaxing day at the spa this is the place to be. The staff was wonderful and facility is great. This was the best massage i have ever had. I totally recommend everyone to to go here. Pros: great staff, great service more

Upscale Prices, Poor Quality 5/14/2006

Recently went to Spa Xanadu for the first time and was not impressed with the staff or services offered. The spa is a nice place with very small facilites ( 1 bathroom in the locker room, teenie tiny whirlpool, etc.) Although, remodeled and nicely decorated... the staff there are not as acoomodating or friendly as you would expect at a place where you are paying very comparable prices to the high end spas. Organization of appointments was not an easy process and they lack overall quality in their setup. PLease double check before paying your big bucks to this place. more
