Wyandot Barbeque

I grew up in Kansas City, and ate at Wyandot Barbeque on State Avenue frequently from my early teens into adulthood. After 25 years away from the Kansas City area, I recently returned for a visit and ordered the same thing I always did--combo sandwich and fries. The experience is exactly as I remembered it--including Ron Williams working the counter! If you're coming to KC and want to sample some of KC's best in a setting meant to emphasize the food, not the decor, you need to stop at Wyandot. It brought back so many great memories, I purchased a gallon of sauce to go! MMMM--M! If you read the negative reviews below, ask yourself this question: In a city famous for some of the best BBQ in the World, how could a BBQ restaurant that serves bad BBQ thrive for over 30 years? Don't let those reviews keep you from a great KC barbeque experience! I've had barbeque all over this country--every style you can imagine. This is the real deal. One of the best in town. Go to their location on Stave Ave for a true BBQ Restaurant experience. Most JOCO guppies/yuppies (don't care what you call them) expect a BBQ restaurant to be like other eating establishments. Warm and friendly with a nice twinkly smile...BS. Enjoy the food and don't worry so much if the gal behind the counter yells at you to take your order. Their sauce is not sweet, who ever said KC sauce should be sweet obviously doesn't know their history. If you like sweet sauce, head over to Mcdonalds for a McRib. I'm a fan of their beef-plate dinner: brisket, slaw, beans, and fries. Lots of food for under $10. If you desire a little heat, there's a big jar full of whole jalepenos, or a big jar of spicy pickels to snack on. Fries and O-rings are some of the best. Most of the negative reviews on this post seem to come from customers who got their feelings hurt. If it's a pat on the back, or a ""have a nice day"" that you're looking for, you might want to head over to your mom's house and have her cook you dinner instead. ON JULY 13th I STOPPED AT WYANDOT BBQ 8441 State Ave Kansas City, Kansas 66112 (and just so you know they have another one at! 7215 West 75th Street Overland Park, Kansas) ORDER SLAB OF RIBS, COLE SLAW, & BAKED BEANS, GOT HOME OPEN IT UP AND THE RIBS WAS BURNT? WENT BACK DOWN TO WYANDOT BBQ AND ASKED FOR THE MANAGER (jim) AND ASKED FOR MY MONEY BACK . HE SAID NO!!! AND THEN I ASKED FOR THE OWNER? WHICH IS (Ronald E. Williams) AND (jim) THE MANAGER TOLD ME! (he will tell you the same thing) BUT HERE'S THE NUMBER HE WILL BE HERE IN THE MORNING. JULY 14th 2008 I CALLED TO TALK TO ( Ronald E. Williams) I TRIED TO TELL HIM WHAT WAS WRONG WITH THE FOOD? AND HE CUT ME OFF AND TOLD ME HE HAD BEEN COOK 35 YEARS AND NEVER HAD A COMPLIANT, (see links below) AND HUNG UP ON ME . STOPPED IN TO SEE HIM IN PERSON AND SHOW HIM THE RIBS. I have been there 2 times (always give a place a second chance) and both times were horrible. Lets start with the help. They are rude very rude and act like you are bothering them if you come in and order some food. Next the food. The food is horrible. The meat is so dry it is hard to swallow and the sauce is not very good. Please find somewhere better to spend your money. My sister and I went to Wyandot Barbeque on Wednesday April 11,2007 the food that I ordered a Burnt End Plate with heavy sauce when i got home and began eating my meal I noticed that once i got to the meat it was dried out and hard so much so that the meat was turning clear I called and spoke to the same man that took my order he told me to bring it the next day so I had my sister to run it in and explain what was wrong with it and the female employee said that the person that would be able to assist us would be there in 5-10 mins my sister said that was fine that she would wait she came out and explained that to me I said fine we waited about 10 mins later the owner Ronald E. Williams came out and my sister said that the food was dried out and hard and that I could not eat it the owner then told her well it looks like she put a pretty good dent in it that's when my sister told he that I had not eaten hardly anything because I just had Gastric Bypass Surgery he then said that the food was fine he had been digging around in the container of food with his fingers touching the food and said no I'M NOT TAKING THIS BACK! my sister came out to the car and told me what he was saying so I went in so that i could explain what the situation was the owner proceeded to yell at me that he would not take the food back and that he would not return my money at that he pushed the tray across the counter at and he stated that he would not discuss it any further answered the phone then turned and walked away. We were humiliated he treated us less than human by the way he spoke to us and I need some assistance the employees when taking orders from people they have awful disposition treated in the same manner my grandmother stated that she stopped going there years ago when the owner mocked the way that she walked when he gave her old food.
