Best Dining Experience in Renton 7/14/2010

My wife and I have dined here many times in the last few months, culminating our search for Renton's finest Italian food. Vino's is, bar far, the best, most consistant, best atmosphere and highest quality of food, wine, and experience! Pros: Great Wine, and Superb Cuisine, good value Cons: No hard liquor more

New Owner is Great 6/27/2010

New (2010) owner is great, a significant improvement. We were a group of four and all had one of the daily specials. They were all winners. Pros: Friendly atmosphere, Great food, Reasonable price more

Authentic Italian at it's best!! 5/25/2010

The food there is excellent and high quality. There is an amazing wine list, and I find it quite affordable. My friend and I shared a bottle of wine, both had salads and fabulous meals for around $100. Great food, great service!!! Can't wait to go back!! Pros: the entire experience Cons: nothing I noticed more

Quality of Your Grocer's Freezer at a High End Price! 5/14/2010

Vino's is the perfect example of ""You can put lipstick on a pig, but it is still a pig"". At first appearance this seems to be a high end restaurant, and prices on the menu reflect the same. I gave it one star because there was no ZERO rating! This place was WAY OVERPRICED, and the food seems like they bought frozen meals and heated them in a microwave. The waiter offered a special of Risotto with Porcini Mushrooms. My mother (who is a gourmet chef) asked where they are able to find Porcini Mushrooms as they are both rare and expensive. The waiter said it was secret... She and I ordered Linguine with clams, it was flavorless. My wife had pizza, which she said was not very good, the crust tasted like unsalted soda crackers. My son ordered a linguine with mixed shell fish, he said it was the worse Italian food he ever had. My daughter ordered duck, which she said was rubbery and flavorless, her boyfriend said that frozen Lasagna from a a supermarket would be more flavorful and better priced than what they served to him.. We also noticed that the ""fresh"" Parmesan cheese was powdered... Just like the stuff that Kraft puts in those plastic cans in the supermarket. However, I think this was the generic stuff, as it was not as flavorful as the Kraft brand. There is NO WAY this was freshly grated Parmesan as the waiter stated. For dessert, two people in our party ordered ""tangerine sorbet"". The BUSBOY came out with one service and said that the freezer had failed, and the rest of the sorbet was ruined. However, he did offer other flavors of ice cream... We wondered why the waiter didn't have the integrity to come out and tell us... We also wondered how only the ""tangerine sorbet"" was the only frozen dessert that was ruined. My son said the so-called tangerine sorbet tasted like ordinary orange sherbert with vanilla ice cream. After all the other shortcomings, we came to the conclusion that it probably was. We also felt that they only had one serving because nobody from the kitchen staff had time to run next door to Safeway and buy more orange-vanilla sherbert. The total tab for six people was $175! DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY AT THIS PLACE. Pros: None that I could think of Cons: OUTRAGEOUSLY Overpriced, Bad Service, Bad Quaility more

Worst Italian Food I've ever had 5/14/2010

Let me start out by reiterating that this is the worst Italian food I've ever had. I have actually had frozen dinners that tasted better. This was a restaurant that was closed when we first moved to Washington, and driving by recently, we had noticed it was open again, and decided to pay it a visit, as we'd never tried this particular place before. The waiter was cordial at first, and I and my mother arrived early, requested a table for 6, and were sat down soon after. He provided us with two menus, and took our orders for drinks. The rest of my party arriving perhaps 8 minutes later. And then the drinks we ordered showed up. We spent some time deliberating over the menu, and our waiter took another 4 minutes to take orders for the rest of our groups' /drinks/. Throughout the entire meal he took the orders, and they were delivered by the busboy. We ordered salads, mixed green, which consisted of vegetables I could hardly call fresh, and covered in vinegar. Our meals came. The Parmesan that was provided to our table wasn't high quality, but store bought, powdered, cheap, paper-flavored Parmesan cheese product. I had ordered the Linguini Frutti Di Mare, a pasta with mixed shellfish in a tomato-based sauce. It smelled horrible, and tasted bland at best, and some of the bites tasted the way it smelled, again an indication that the ingredients weren't fresh. I managed to make myself finish a quarter of it before I lost my appetite entirely. I ended up dumping the rest in a dumpster behind the place. When we ordered the desserts, we went with two tiramisus, shared between four people, and two orders of Tangerine Sorbet. What we got was two tiramisus, one tangerine sorbet, and a bull**** story about a malfunctioning freezer. So, despite not having any more tangerines for the sorbet, and not having a /working freezer/, I was offered other /frozen/ dishes. If our waiter came back and explained that they were out of tangerines as soon as it was discovered, I would not have been offended. He waited until all our orders were prepared except for one of them, and sent the busboy with the bull**** story he told us. And the one sorbet we /got/ was not a sorbet, but rather orange sherbet. And then, we got the bill. The waiter was a bit misleading, when we ordered our meal, he asked us what kind of salad we wanted, in a tone that indicated they were included with our meals. Which they weren't. The total bill came to over $170. A total rip off. I've had far better food for far less than that, with just as many people. To summarize, don't waste your time or money at Vino's. The food is mediocre at best, the service leaves a lot to be desired. Cons: Poor service, Poor Food, Rich price. more

The best of Italian in Renton 2/24/2010

We are so happy to see Vino back and under new management. This has always been a favorite of ours. With Santiago (he managed and worked at three Italian restaurants in Bellevue) running the place it is sure to be a success. We were immediately greeted warmly and the soft music and candlelight atmosphere were lovely. The food, we had a dish with shrimp and pasta, was very good. Come back and show your support for the best Italian food in the area and support your locally-owned restaurants!! Pros: stellar service, authentic food, great atmosphere more

SCAM SCAM SCAM 2/6/2008

I find it to be quite amusing that I was not the only one who was totally taken advantage of and ripped off by the so-called ""owner"" of this dump. The guy with the accent who is primarily the server here is NOT the owner, though he likes to pretend he is. I ended up spending $300.00 for four people the other night.... We ordered a bottle of wine and he basically told us ""no,"" and brought us his own selection instead; only to find out later is was twice the price. When we ordered an appetizer, he said he would split it--- No he brought each and every one of us our own and proceeded to charge us for each one. When we asked the soup of the day he said it was a seafood stew. I ordered a bowl of is as my meal- He ended us charging me for the Cioppino (three times the cost) at the end of the night. When he was confronted about his scam artist ways, his accent became deeper and he started yelling and acting confused (mind you, it was all an act, duh). Anyways, DO NOT dine here. I want to report this place to a news station so they can do an undercover investigation--- it should be illegal the way they rip you off. Besides, the food is crappy. The Caesar salad had no croutons (they were out of them), no parmesan (they were out of it--I know, crazy).... it was literally a pile of lettuce with dressing that tasted like plain mayonnaise on it. DONT LET THE CRAZY MAN SCAM YOU. IF YOU WANT TO TRY THIS PLACE OUT, BE READY TO BE STERN AND NOT EASILY SWAYED. CHECK YOUR BILL- ASK PRICES OF EVERYTHING. Pros: NADA Cons: THEY ARE SCAM ARTISTS more

Classic Italian restaurant that makes you feel like you're in Italy. 1/25/2008

Vino's has great, great service. The staff there, say hello to John, treat you like family. Great pasta, try the specials. We had a fantastic seafood pasta, topped off with a traditional Italian blackberry desert with limoncello. more

Reality Check 11/1/2007

I've been to Vino recently and I had a great experience. Owner welcomed us with open arms and smile on his face. We requested a nice table by the window and we were promptly sited on Saturday night, Usually busy time for restaurants. We requested some tasty appetizer to start with and Amy(our server)suggested some platter with prosciutto, salame and some great vegetable mix of eggplant, capia and olives. It was wonderful. We order Luce wine, it complimented appetizer wonderfully. We took our time, and Amy came back many times to check if we are doing ok or need anything. For dinner we order Veal Piccata and my husband ordered Grilled sausage, quail and steak, served with vegetables. Nettles to say, we were happy with our choices. Zabaglione was a great suggestion from Amy as a desert and my husband had their new pumpkin gelato. Owner as a token of a appreciation, gave us a great port wine on the house. That was a great experience for us. We are from Europe and Vino remind us a little bit of our home, and that made us impressed and certainly welcome back anytime. I would recommend Vino to anyone who like to experience some great taste of Italy. more

Food is good but service is bad 9/12/2007

I have eaten at Vino's many times over the past few years. I had my husbands 30th birthday and the manager Keith treated us GREAT. However the other waiter (NOT Owner) Joel was quite annoying and acted rather inappropriate. He sang songs all night over and over as though he was drunk. Each time we go in to dine at Vino's he is always asking us to hook him up with pretty ladies and never really leaves you alone to enjoy your meal. I made the same mistake when I first ate at Vino's and thought Joel was the owner but come to find out he's not, he's just a waiter. He appears rude but I believe it is just his personality. He can be entertaining but mostly rather annoying. There are certain things that are very good but you cannot seem to stray away from those because that's when the quality gets dicey. If you can get passed the annoying waiter you might have a good experience. Cons: Not kid friendly more

Rip Off!!!!! 8/22/2007

They charged us for a $45 bottle of wine we did not drink. They told us to order ""family style"" because it would be ""cheaper."" It cost us the price of their THREE specials each to order a ""family style dinner."" That is not how my family eats!! We had small portions of their specials, but basically paid full price for them. We talked to the owner, who was the one who ripped us off. He knew we were right, but just told us to go away and was very rude to us when we tried to talk about the bill. I will never go here again and would never recommend it to anyone! If you do decide to go here, just order strictly off the menu and don't be fooled into ordering ""family style"". Of course they also thought they deserved a 20% tip as well. What selfish people! Resturant service should be about the customer, not the resturant owner's pocketbook. This is a horrible way to represent Italians. I have been to Italy and would never have been treated this way. I would not recommend going to eat here! Pros: food was decent Cons: They rip you off and don't even care! more

First time customers and we really enjoyed ourselves... 8/4/2007

After reading the reviews, I was afraid to go to try this place but I'm glad I did. We were expecting some more

Don't Do It !!!! 8/2/2007

Yes, as the website states, your dining experience at Vino's will definitely be ""unforgettable"". Unforgettable in that you'll ask yourself why you chose to spend your money at this restaurant. What is touted to be a ""cozy and romantic dining experience"" was hardly that. The ""part-owner"" who took our order was impatient and brusque. The first clue of his demanding demeanor came through when one hesitated to ponder the entree selections. You were made to feel uncomfortable as he shifted his feet and furrowed his eyebrows waiting for your decision. He purposely dismissed asking if others at our table wanted wine; perhaps because someone dared to chose to drink by the glass rather than get suckered into ordering a bottle of their ""high quality or more expensive rarity"" wine. Upon completion of the meal, you were expected to pay the bill and get out. There was no offer to box your leftovers (you had to ask) nor did you dare to ask for coffee or an after dinner drink. The gruff old ""part-owner"" made sure that his wait staff were lurking right next to our table while barking orders for the table to be re-set as soon as we stood up. Yes, a Vino's dining experience will be unforgettable. It's guaranteed that you won't soon forget spending so much money on such an unpleasurable fine dining experience. If you've read the most recent reviews, you'll definitely recognize a pattern of first-time customer's being treated like dirt. Perhaps Vino's ""regulars"" can keep the restaurant in business as surely new customers won't. I join the other recent reviewers in saying ARRIVERDERCI Vino's, we won't be back. If I could rate your restaurant less than one star, I would, and even that would be a stretch from what you really deserve. Pros: None that I could recognize Cons: Horrible customer service more

The evil eye 6/25/2007

I'm with mikenikki on this one. My husband and I were vacationing in Seattle for our anniversary. One night we didn't know where to eat and saw the great reviews for Vinos and decided to try. Like mikenikki, the owner was very nice until it came to the drinks. We don't drink wine so we opted for water, after that things went down hill. There were only 2 other people there but our server needed help from 2 other people and we got ignored often. If the manager ever came by he would never look at us but look up and else where while filling our water or anything like that. To the others that came in, they must have been regulars because he was ordering for them, laughing, talking, singing, but when it came to us when we'd smile at him he'd give us the evil eye like he wanted us to leave. The only normal and helpful person there was a gal in her pajamas that was so nice she was obviously trying to cover for the manager. The food was good, my husband and I talked about what our review would say but it wasn't good enough to outweigh the way they made us feel. Unwelcome and uncomfortable. I thought it was in my head so on our way out I tried to shake the managers hand and let him know how good the meal was but he would have none of it and the waitress in her pjs stepped in front of him and thanked us loudly for coming. It was a shame to have such a bad experience just because the owner disliked you for no reason. Bad move Vino, I'll never be back or recommend it. Cons: Slow service, very rude and unwelcoming manager more

It's not the food, it's the attitude!! 6/24/2007

First off...if you notice the dates of the reviews it seems like Vino's has gone way down hill since last year!!! They don't lie!! My fiance & I were new to the area & had driven by this small place that had a wonderful smell on more than one occasion. So..we decided to go & check it out. We were seated immidiately and asked for our drink order right then. Expressing to our seater, who also turned out to be our server and the owner, that we needed a minute to look over the wine list. Within a moment another party was seated at the table next to us. He then again asked for our drinks. After reviewing the bill I realized that instead of receiving the $6.50 glasses of wine, we were given $9 glasses instead.....WITHOUT BEING NOTIFIED!!! HOW SHADY!! He then almost instantly became frusterated with us that we did not know exactly what we wanted. He then proceeded to ignore us & tell the table next to us what they were going to have for dinner. They were also conveniently ""out"" of quite a few things. We were given bread & grated parmesan but none of the great looking 'oil n herbs' that everyone else had! we eventually asked for it. so... the food came promptly... I will say that we both enjoyed it. After that, the rudeness of the owner proceeded. We were offered dessert by the busser (who was the only pleasant person there) We ordered their 'feature'. I would have preffered something from an 'easy-bake-oven'!!! The bill was ridiculous, especially for the experience. I felt very uncomfortable & unwelcomed!!! We will NOT return or reccomend this to anyone!!! Pros: good food Cons: HORRIBLE ATTITUDE & SERVICE!! NOT WORTH $$ more

Vino's - great Italian resturant 6/20/2007

For a friend's birthday, her husband treated three of us to dinner at Vino's. We didn't know if we had the right place when we were looking for it.. But inside it's very cute. We had the place all to ourselves! Pros: If you don't like to make decisions ..sit back and relax.. Cons: may be a bit spendy more

Terrible customer service 4/17/2007

We invited a long time friend to join us for dinner here. We were seated and began chatting instead of looking first at our menu. When the owner/waiter came to take our order, we apologized and said we needed a few more minutes to look at the menu. When he cam back ten minutes later he was noticeably furious and said he didn't want to have to come back five more times and ordered us to place our order now. He then yelled and pointed saying ""you now"" to each one of us and then stormed off. He returned later with our salads an literally threw them in front of us. This type of abuse went on at each point of contact. As I was signing for the bill I looked up and saw him across the room shaking his finger threatenly implying that we should leave immediately. This was the most outrageous, embarrassing service I have ever witnessed. I will certainly not return, although I do have vengeful thoughts from time to time which I will not act on. Pros: It feels good to leave this place without physical injury, although you will be scarred emotionally. Cons: The most humiliating experience you will ever encounter more

Avoid Avoid Avoid 3/19/2007

I went to this restaurant to celebrate my wife's birthday, with 3 other people. Upon arrival we were seated promptly. As we were removing our coat a waiter came and asked if we wanted tap water or mineral water. I responded I wanted tap water. The waiter then promptly brought mineral water, at $6 a bottle, for everyone else. The waiter then told us about a great appetizer and we thought the appetizer was going to be shared by all, instead everyone got an appetizer. Then when we asked for a certain wine the waiter stated he didn't have that wine but another one similar to it. We didn't realize that the caraf of wine was $25 a bottle until we received the bill. Unfortunately we were told after going there the restaurant is infamous for switching the item you want for a more expensive one. I can only say that going to this restaurant is something I would never do again under any circumstance. In an age of customer satisfaction this place was customer dissatisfaction. more
