If you want bad service, rude people, small portions and the feeling of being cheated out of your money, then this is the place to go!!! \r \r I ordered the Shrimp Thai Basil at medium heat with no vegetables. I got 6 pitiful looking shrimp with only onions as a vegetable and they charged me $14.95. I tried to just eat it, not complain and leave, but about 5 hours later I began to get sick. I spent all night in the bathroom and it ruined my evening. The next day when I called to let them know, they tried to tell me it was because I didn't eat it correctly. They said if I ate it with rice, I wouldn't have gotten sick. I told them that is ridiculous, I have been on the low-carb diet for 10 years and am an Asian food enthusiast. I have eaten several types of Asian food, including Thai, without rice for years with no problems. I found the staff to be rude, judgmental, racist and condescending. What, you think just because I'm White I've never had Asian food before because my poor little Caucasian belly can't handle it? PLEASE!!!!!!!\r \r ***When I called to let them know, the guy who served us, the guy with glasses, said, ""Oh, those are the people that didn't order rice, HAHAHAHAHAHHA!!!!"" more

Worst Experience 2/28/2012

First we ordered soup and apetizers the service was quick but the food was not at all good. The fried tofu was litterally dripping oil. The soup was very sour. Main dishes were the same. I had thai spicy basil. it was worse to taste. too salty, onions were not cooked properly and no flavor could only taste strong soy sauce. We were four of us and 2 kids. They dont have kids menu so ended up ordering whole adult size and again not at all worth the price. I am never going there. BTW all in all our bill was about 100 dollars for four people. I call it expensive. I would not mind paying for good food but better alternative exists try Thai palace instead in chapel hill or twisted noodles in durham. more

good food but pricey 8/7/2011

Good food and service is great. No complaints but there are other places that offer similar foods for less. china Thai in RTP is a great alternative if you are near RTP. more

Cary is fortunate to have a Thai restaurant of this quality! The atmosphere, the food, the service, the prices - all are in line and all total up to a great experience. There aren't that many places here in Cary to rave about, but this is one. If you enjoy Thai food, you will love Tom Yum Thai. Special standouts: Green Chicken Curry, Green Papaya Salad. more

Best Thai Food in Research Triangle plus Cary 9/3/2010

I have been married to a native Thai man for 15 years, and lived in Thailand for 5 years. I have tried Thai food in Thai land, and all over the world...and at this point would call myself a Thai food connoisseur. I moved to Raleigh two years ago and have been in search of the best Thai food in Raleigh, Durham and Cary. I found Tom Yum Thai to be the best Thai food in the research triangle (Raleigh, Durham, Cary, Chapel Hill), and to be in the top 5 best Thai restaurants I have ever eaten at. The owner is friendly and moved to Cary from Thai land about a year ago. The food is fresh, elegant, and full of delicious flavor. The restaurant atmosphere is wonderful, great mood lighting and music, perfect for a date...makes me think I am back in Thai land and my husband agrees 100%:) The food is also very reasonably priced. I would STRONGLY suggest eating here!!! more

Magnificent Mouthwatering Massaman Curry! 7/13/2010

The owner or one of his friendly staff members will greet you when you partake on your 1st T.Y.T. experience. I was most impressed when they recognized my voice over the phone the 2nd time I called for pick-up. Plus, the staff remembered how I liked it b/c they don't mind if you don't care for a certain veggie & want to swap it for something you'd prefer {which speaks miles, as some restaurants are quite snooty & charge you}. My 2 1/2 yr old daughter loves the massaman curry chx ordered med spicy accompanied by a salad w/their house made garlic dressing. The lunch is very AFFORDABLE, all menu items = $7.95 that entails an iced tea, salad & entree....Cary's best bargain for quality tasty cuisine! Pros: Stellar staff, Superb Cuisine more

Excellent! 3/18/2010

I am not a connoisseuer of Thai food specifically but I do love Asian, and the food was excellent. Y ou can choose the level of spice - Medium, American hot, Thai hot - and one not on the menu, Thai extra hot. I had Thai hot and it was a challenge but very good, not so hot it was painful to eat but I did end up with a runny nose and sweaty forehead. Pros: Friendly service, choose it your way more

Authentic Thai 3/4/2010

My wife and I are always looking for great Thai restuarants and definitely found one in Tom Yum Thai. We found the staff to be very welcoming and the food to be incredibly good. My wife, who is Thai, said this restuarant makes her feel like being back in Thailand. I would be in total agreement with her. We highly recommend Tom Yum Thai to all of our friends and family. Pros: Excellent service and great food. more

Not a good place to go 11/30/2009

I had my dinner at Tom Yum, Cary, last Friday. The lip print on the cup made me wondering how they clean their dishes? Please check your sanitation carefully. more

No a good place for dinning out 11/30/2009

A lip print on the cup ruined my dinner. Cons: poor sanitation more

Wonderful food 11/17/2009

Tom Yum apparently changed hands last spring; we've been a couple of times since then and the food has been wonderful. Most places are too timid when spicing for Americans; Tom Yum knows exactly what I mean by ""hotter than American hot but not as hot as Thai hot."" :-) The prices seem a remarkable bargain; the decor is very pleasant and soothing, and service has been excellent. Highly recommended! Pros: Great food, bargain prices more

Good, not great 9/18/2009

The food was good, although the cashew tofu was overly endowed with onions, a cheap filler. I would have liked more vegetables and sauteed tofu instead of deep fried. On the other hand, Orange chicken, a dish that's often too sweet, had a really nice fresh orange zest overtone. Portions were generous. Tea was oddly a smoky lapsang souchong, rather than the traditional Thai spice tea. Coffee was simply American coffee, and instant at that. Bleagh! Forget dessert. Not worth the calories. Bland. Garish. Overall the food was good, well prepared, served quickly and pleasantly. However, the owner came over to ask us how we found the restaurant, since he noted we hadn't been there before. I have never had such an in depth survey of the effectiveness of advertising before at a restaurant, and it was intrusive. I sense a desperation in these folks; I hope they survive. There's a lot to like here. Pros: Good fresh food, attentive service Cons: Some misses more
