Editorial review from Citysearch 1/26/2013

We were excited about having Thai food for dinner tonight and decided to try some place new instead of our usual favorite place. Based upon the reviews, we had high expectations. We were sorely disappointed. We got phad thai, cashew chicken, and panang curry. Every single dish was flat and flavorless. We are incredibly disappointed that we spent $33 plus tax and had to force ourselves to eat it just to not waste the money (yes, it was that bad). more

Thirty-eight years military and I’ve been around. The Pad Thai is as close to authentic Thailand as you'll ever get. Wife loved the Curry. We found our Thai restaurant in Gilbert. more

Best Thai in AZ 7/8/2011

Been to almost every Thai food place in Tempe, Mesa, and Chandler. This is by far the best. As a previous chef for 8 years (including a yoga resort) with plenty of experience in curries, Siam Orchid produces quality flavorful curries and foods. more

As good as ever! 12/20/2009

We have been eating at Siam Orchid since they opened and have never been disappointed with the food or the service. We were there again last night. We go at least every two weeks, and this time took some people who had never eaten Thai food before. They loved it and commented that now they understand why we prefer Thai to Chinese. Two more converts!!! Pros: Wonderful food and exceptional service Cons: Wish it was closer to Mesa more

Tired Thai rehash 7/29/2008

I had seafood combo soup and a curry ... the waiter/owner never asked how spicy we want it and taste was utterly bland. Curry was OK. Decor a rather nauseating pink with fake plastic flower arrangement and a giant cardboard cutout of a smiling Thai woman that looks like it was stolen from airline. Place looked clean, but I had a touch of intestinal distress following morning.. could have been from the clams which might not have been the restaurant's fault. Honestly I didn't expect much from a hole-in-the-mini mall place and of course it's in the wasteland of Gilbert (sorry, but that town is just a baby factory) but a little more flavor and paint job would earn this place three stars. I have to keep in mind that every restaurant in Phoenix area has cook staff that are mexican, so it's up to the owner to really put some degree of authenticity into the meal. I'm no expert on Thai food but I did spend a month in the country.... you're better served by some Thai restaurants in Chandler and Tempe. Good luck on your culinary adventures. more

Excellent Food 2/16/2008

I was visiting the area for the first time and saw the great reviews for this restaurant. It truly is as good as the reviews say it is! The atmosphere is not the draw but the flavor and portions of the food are perfect. The service was just as good as the food too. All around wonderful restaurant! more

Best Thai Food 1/18/2008

This the gem real foodies are looking for. 1/1/2008

If you want ""Glam Thai"" then go somewhere else ... but if you want outstandingly delicious food in a ""real"" environment from exceptionally nice people then Siam Orchid is the place for you. \r \r The food is authentic, delicately prepared, and pefectly portioned. I'll put it this way, this place is so good and the people are so nice I want them to be tremendously successful. And on the flip side this place is so good I don't want anybody to know about it but me!\r \r Pros: Straight forward, simple, honest authentic Thai food more

Tough Thai to Top 10/16/2005

My family and I have been going to the Siam Orchid since the first month they opened and I personally have manage to try 95% of their menu over the years. Their curries, Crying Tiger, and Thai Iced Tea are among my favorites, but we all agree we have yet to have something bad here. Pros: Friendly Staff, Fresh Tasting Food, Great Presentation Cons: Weekends can be busy more

Siamese Dining Delight 9/17/2005

We have eaten at the Siam Orchid several times and always found the food well prepared and delightfully presented at the table. The service was very attentive but unobtrusive. For those who like their spices subtle and not oppresive this is the place to go. The menu has a picture os each dish to help you make your selections. I do feel that the ambiance could be improved by reducing the lighting a little possibly by adding some oriental style blinds to the windows, this would also give more privacy from the street. Do not plan on being in a hurry when you dine there as all the food is freshly prepared and cooked just for you. What a delight yhat is!. Incidentally their web sight is well worth a visit. It is well developed and informative. Pros: Inexpensive, not too spicy, not crowded more

Going to Grandma's House 8/15/2005

Siam Orchid is by far our fave place in the Valley for Thai. We stop by as often as we are able, and the owner who we refer to as our Grandmother due to the absolute care we always receive when we go into the restaurant. She and her staff make the food however you want it: Thai spicy like we have it or mild to suit other palates. Not only does she and her staff go beyond the pale to make you feel like you are one of the family, but the food is exquisite. Always well-balanced and consistently beautiful. Thank you! Pros: Variety, Care of Staff, Adorable decor more

Crazy for Curry! 7/13/2005

Friends and I try to go to Siam Orchid on a regular basis. The owners try to get to know people and treat you like family. They have some of the best curry in town...the duck curry is amazing and the pineapple and grapes in curry are simply wonderful. My friends have a special needs child (Garritt) and he loves the omelette, and the owners are absolutely great with him...always asking how he is and what he's doing. They truly make it a wonderful and fun dining experience. more

Great Food @ More Than Reasonable Prices 6/15/2005

Have been going here since they opened...truly consistent great Thai cuisine for Lunch or Dinner! Pros: Great Food, Good Pricing, Wonderful Owners Cons: Soda can be flat. more

Best Thai in a strip mall! 6/14/2005

I am simply not satisfied with the state of Thai food in Phoenix, but Siam Orchid is definately a stand-out, not the most authentic recipes, but certainly a place where you can take a novice to lunch and they will find food they enjoy. At first, I didn't think I liked the pictures of the food on the menu (makes me think of low-end chinese buffet), but I was with someone who really appreciated the photos. In the end, the photos helped me pick my food as well, and I was happy with my green curry. I usually don't expect much from restaurants in strip malls, but Siam exceeded my expecations. Pros: Fresh good food, Lots of orchids Cons: Strip mall, Lots of fake orchids more

I lived in Southeast Asia for 6.5 years and dearly loved the Thai cuisine there. I have searched all over the East Valley for authentic Thai food. Siam Orchid brought my search to an end. It is just plain excellent in every category and authentic Thai. Pros: Cordial, good value, clean more
