Great food, rude waitstaff 5/23/2010

The menu selection was very good and the food was excellent, I just wish that we did not have to wait over an hour to be seated. We were initially told that the wait was 35 minutes. Since the building is so small, we decided to wait outside and went into a shop next door. We went back to the restaurant after about 15 minutes and stood outside. About 40 minutes had passed when we went back inside to check on the wait. A short girl with brown hair told us that we should not have left (even though we were right outside and they could have checked) so we had to be placed at the end of the line again. She was extremely rude about this and then proceeded to talk about us with a fellow employee while we were within earshot. It's a nice place to eat while in Charleston but honestly there are better restaurants with more professional employees. Pros: The food was delicious. Cons: Wait time was over an hour more

Sweet Potato Fries - Yum! 2/25/2010

The sweet potato fries rock! more

Maybe we were there on a bad day..... 11/27/2006

We stopped in for lunch thinking we would get a nice meal and some local color. The atmosphere was about what you would expect for a downtown pub-restaurant, not bad, but nothing exceptional. I ordered the grilled chicken breast with basil and my wife ordered the crabcake sandwich. Both came with the sweet potato fries. For my sanwich, I could have gone to Chic-Filet and gotten the same thing. The sauce (mayonnaise?) had little taste and the bun (same type as you find at Chic-filet) had not even been warmed. Pros: None noted. Cons: Quality of food more

Lavender Pork Tenderloin... 10/25/2006

If I wer poetic I would write and ode to this tenderloin, as it is I'm planning to trya recipe at home. Great waitress, had dessert recommendations offered to take away the wine I didn't like (I kept it, it got better the more I drank.) I think my friend had seafood cakes? He enjoyed them. When dessert came around I cannot turn down tirimisu, no way, no how. Oh yeah, that was better than, like... well, you know... de-lish-us! My buddy couldn't say enough about the Nutella Cheesecake, and could not stop himself from eating every last bite. (He paid for his gluttony, oh yes he did...) Atmosphere was soft, kind of romantic, fun place with college students, yuppies and us, whatever we are, tourists I guess... Interesting paintings on the walls, wonder if they rotate, heard they were by the owner? Overall great prices and a very good find! Pros: anything on the menu Cons: only got to go once... more

Very average place 9/15/2006

Great atmosphere, but mixed reviews on the service and food. Our waiter didn't smile once and seemed disinterested in serving us, even walking away before we finished ordering. Another waiter, possibly the manager?, was visibly put out when I requested lettuce and tomato for the burger which came out without any. He was the same way when he brought those items back. The person puring the water was great and friendly...smiling all the time. Pros: Great sweet potato fries, good atmosphere Cons: Relatively uninspired and unfriendly wait staff, less-than-average burgers more

Awesome food, great price 8/1/2006

We ended up at Sermit's because it was supposed to poor down rain and it was half a block from our hotel (the Renaissance). We were so impressed with our waitress, the prices and the food. I had the group special and it was wonderful... and my husband had the pasta which he loved. They were able to customize our orders where necessary and did it without complaint. We had a glass of wine each, a substantial entree each and each had a different flavored cheesecake (which were awesome, I recommend the Nutella) all for about 68 bucks with the tip. All in all, very much recommended!!! Pros: Great experience all around! Cons: Can't think of one!! more

Good food, price and service! 7/15/2006

Sermet's was a great place to grab takeout. I had a nice experience with the staff and the food was excellent! Pros: Good food, price and service more

You Won't Be Disappointed 10/12/2005

The food is well prepared and presented. I highly reccommend the veal. The resturant is on the small side which adds to it's charm. The inside motif is very Charleston. Mid afternoon dining is best. The crowd is small and service is more attentive. The resturant tends to be crowded and very noisy at peak dining hours. Pros: Excellent Food, Good Service, Good Value Cons: Crowded at Peak Hours, Noisy at Peak Hours more

My new favorite place 6/13/2005

Sirmet makes the best pork tenderloin that I have ever had. This place is my new favorite restaurant. You can sit in the window and watch people go by, and eat a gourmet meal with a very reasonable price. The small portion fills me up and I can eat. more

Great lunch spot 5/19/2002

This is one of my favorite spots to drop in for lunch when I'm in Charleston. The atmosphere is cozy but not cramped--dark wood, high ceilings, lots of windows--and the Mediterranean-influenced dishes are always tasty. They have a wonderful selection of salads. A really charming spot--I'd think it would be very romantic in the evening. more
