SANTA MONICA SMILES 7/22/2002

Having visited Santa Monica Pier several times, as well as Santa Monica City, I must say that I have always found the people of Santa Monica most pleasant and cheery! It is always amazing to me to find such a pleasant atmosphere and for this reason, I rate Santa Monica Pier as one of my most favorite places in California! The Pier 7/1/2002

The Pier is a likely spot I take people to when they visit me from out of town. We park and walk along the beach toward the pier. It's a nice, relaxing walk, and we can experience the atmosphere that surrounds the pier. While I never tried the Ferris Wheel, though it does look fun. We tried the Carousel, and that was fun. We walk up and down the pier. Looking at vendor pictures and what-not. Soaking in the fun and entertainment. Sometimes we would walk toward the back and enjoy the breeze off the ocean - watching the sailboats in the distance. After we finish with the pier, we walk to the 3rd Street Promenade, which is nearby, to do a little shopping and to have a snack. more

Don't Waste Your Time 6/27/2002

Though a lot of work has been done to improve Santa Monica Pier's appearance, safety, and cleaniness, it is still ugly, gang-infested, a dirty. Rather than going there, try going south to the Manhattan Bearch Pier or head north to Malibu. Pros: View Cons: Parking, Unsafe, Dirty more

This beach isnt any more special than any other beach out here on the pacific coast. Wow it has a pier. Big whoopdy do? All there is...is a bunch of overpriced restaurants and a beach covered with dirty diapers and syringes! They charge you around 7-8 bucks just to park your car so you can use a beach that God created and meant us all to use for free. Geez thanx.... But no thanks! more

This is the place to be on a friday or saturday or any day for that matter! It is so pretty and there are so many people! I love to come here to play around and meet people and sometimes.. i come alone to stare off at the dark black sea at night. I find that no other spot in the world gets me thinking like i do here. A great spot to check out! more

I Love the Pier Me and my kids are so in to the water, they love to get Thrashed by the waves, and the like to sit and watch the sun set at Night. Pros: View, Sunsets, Peace Cons: Sand, Sand, and More Sand more

It's the place to be 6/7/2002

SANTA MONICA PIER! It's the place to be. It's BEAUTIFUL in the late afternoon (especially towards dusk). From the pier you can view: Malibu,Palos Verdes Penensula, and other parts of the coast. While you're there make sure you visit the ""3rd street Promenade"" 2 blocks away. You will love the entertainment. (hey fellows its easy on the pocket book and all and you will have a very good evening) GO VISIT YOU'LL LOVE IT p.s. get there before 4pm and park in the Santa Monica mall for free. After 4 its a whole $3 Pros: can be inexpensive, good entertainment, variety for any crowd Cons: Pier parking $$$, expect homeless, cold at night more

Take a Long Walk 5/20/2002

Say what you will about the area being too touristy, too crowded or too generic, but this really is a nice spot. Sit atop the ferris wheel at Sunset and then tell me you don't believe me. Skip the restaurants -- none of them are anything special (though Rusty's can be nice for drinks and live music if you get there before the cover charge). The games are OK, though I don't know that anybody really ever wins anything. Mostly, this is all about ambiance. Troll around, venture into the sand, forget about the rest of the world. This is a good place to visit once, but there really isn't a need to go back. Restaurants are average and it's usually crowded. The only thing that separates the pier from any other kiosk-laden area is that it is on a pier. Pros: beautiful view Cons: crowded more
