Best

Drove up from Los Angeles over Memorial weekend and discovered our favorite sushi restaurant ever. And we know good sushi. We have been to many great sushi restaurants in L.A area...

Worst

I would never dine here. This is definitely my worst take-out experience and I'm not the type of people who complains about everything in life. I ordered a Tori (chicken noodles)...

Very fresh and high quality fish! 5/30/2011

Drove up from Los Angeles over Memorial weekend and discovered our favorite sushi restaurant ever. And we know good sushi. We have been to many great sushi restaurants in L.A area and this place is just impressive! The fish is sooo fresh and the quaility of the sashimi is absolutely excellent. The chef is friendly and very generous with food portions. Not a fancy restaurant but it is all abou the fish! Easy parking and the service is great. Pleasantly suprised to find such a great sushi place hidden in Walnut Creek. Our girls also loved the noodle soup so much that we had to go back again the night after. Highly recommended !!!!! THANK YOU! more

Would never ever dine here! 9/25/2009

I would never dine here. This is definitely my worst take-out experience and I'm not the type of people who complains about everything in life. I ordered a Tori (chicken noodles). On the menu it gives you several choices of noodles but I wasn't asked what type of noodles I wanted but I had only realized that after I made the order. Then I was overcharged. The price on the menu was $7.95, and she charged me $8.96, that's a lot more than 9.25% taxes in Walnut Creek. I didn't dispute it since it was a small amount and besides thought I could help this poor family restaurant out since they only had two guests dining in at prime lunch time - 1p.m! I waited for about 10 minutes, the waitress brought out my lunch, which came in a styrofoam container that looks like one of the supersize drink cups you get from a gas station, in a clear plastic bag and nothing else. I was thinking, are you serious? Is she gonna put it in another bag, maybe one with a handle, since there is boiling hot soup in it? No, she just handed it to me like that. There's another thing, the bag is clearly a used one because it was stained. So, ok, I didn't complain. I guess they're really trying to save. I couldn't really hold the cup upward while I was driving because it was hot and of course it topped over when I made a turn. The soup came spilling all over on my car floor. There were holes in the plastic bag! I opened the bag and the lid was broken, and it was not tightly closed. What a disaster. The noodles were completely soggy because they didn't separate the noodles from the soup. Cons: bad service more

GREAT PLACE 6/17/2009

I used to work there, and I am telling you, ITS EXCELLENT!!! The owner, Andy and his wife put so much effort in offering the best quality Japanese food and the Japanese chef is very detail-oriented and really knows how to prepare delicious food. Almost every time I worked there, they would prepare me a roll to go, and it always tasted so great!! You should really count on me, because I am Japanese grew up in Japan, and not many restaurants in the bay area amazes me. Sakana Sushi really has the fresh sushi and dishes with authentic tastes. Pros: BEST CHEFF, REASONABLE PRICE Cons: NOT SO GOOD FOR GROUPS LARGERS THAN 6 more

All You Can Sushi! 7/16/2008

Since moving to Walnut Creek in October, I have been on a hunt for the best sushi. I have found it at Sakana. Yes, its in a strip mall, but if you are tired of driving around downtown, looking for a parking place, then you will appreciate the ample parking. \r The real reason to come here is the all you can eat sushi dinner. Monday thru Thursday, this place serves all you can eat sushi rolls and nigiri for 20 bucks. This includes soup, salad, edamame and tempura, which are all excellent. I have been skipping the appetizers so I can concentrate on the fish! Such a deal! Try it, for 20 bucks, you can't go wrong!!! Pros: All you can eat Sushi! Cons: Strip Mall, service can be slow more

One the best sushi joints in the Bay Area 6/5/2008

My taste in sushi developed while working at a high-end sushi bar in San Diego (unfortunately for my wallet), so when I moved up north, I looked for a really good place in the East Bay. I was really surprised to find a place in Contra Costa County that had high quality fish. I got to know the people there, so they are always kind to me, recommending what is best at the moment. \r \r Their nigiri and sashimi is always cut large, so no complaints about little fish and a lot of rice. I know for a fact, that they only buy high-quality fish; the owner/chef shows me the invoice on orders to discuss quality to price ratios sometimes. \r \r It has never been crowded in the past 9 years I have been going there, which actually scares me, because I don't want it to go out of business. It is simply not in a prime location and doesn't have a lot of visual flare. \r \r If you want high-quality sushi, go here. If you want trendy dishes in a posh atmosphere, go somewhere else. Pros: Awesome sushi (all I really care about), good people, good portions, decent prices Cons: Not best atmosphere, not best for large groups. more

The knew sushi chef is excelent, top notch! Try it! 9/22/2007

Hey guys i love this resturants food and service give them a chance and you will see and taste that this place has great potential. Sakana could use some fixing up like the BLACK countertops could/should be replaced with light wood people will be lining up trying to come in so fix it up a bit and you will fall in love with this restaurant because of their fresh varietty of fish. Great for kids 5 and up. Ask for their miso soup and you will feel as if in heaven. ""Sakana Sushi, where the flavors express themselves."" - sakana sushi lover and top food critique Pros: parking is quite easy and the service could be a little more happy, lighting is preety good and great for sitting at the bar and whaching a little football Cons: service is O.K. but when sitting at the bar can be irritating because of those BLACK sticky countertops if you dont mind them then sit at the bar but otherwise the tables arnt sticky more

Awful on many levels 1/12/2007

If what you are looking for is good sushi and friendly service, then DO NOT go there! Beware! Rude staff, unaccommodating, with attitude! We ordered many dishes as we went as a group, and not one of us was happy about the resulting order. Sushi from a grocery store tastes better. Stay away! more

Good sushi 1/2/2006

Im used to be in Sakana Sushi many times. Its a good place if you want real sushi, I recommend to order something from there special menu. Spicy Tuna Roll and Amayabi Sushi is outstanding. Pros: good sushi, easy parking, nice place Cons: a bit expensive more

not valuable 7/19/2004

One day, I ordered kaki fry to go. There were only 3 SMALL fried oysters and this order cost me about $5.9x Besides, the maki roll was not well wrapped. When I took it, all materials dropped. If you just want to have a dinner and don't care the atmosphere or how good the food will be, this restaurant is ok. Cons: , maki sushi more
