My husband and I decided to try out this restaurant due to all the good reviews we had read. We had also seen the online menu (which included prices) before hand, and the dishes ...

Our Favorite Indian Restaurant 3/29/2008

We just celebrated a birthday at Rangmahal and it was a great night. We were welcomed like family and were made to feel so at home. The staff are so warm and sincere. Impeccable service.\r Now to the food....it's the best Indian food around. Excellent flavors, wide variety of specials....the lamb chops are a must! Truly a wonderful chef who takes the time to come out to say hello and to ensure his guests are satisfied.\r Definitely worth trying the Indian beers and wine.\r We'll be back for our next family celebration. Excellent place to celebrate any special occasion.\r Thank you again.\r Yvette & Mike Pros: Great Food, Excellent Service, Warm & Sincere Staff Cons: can't think of any cons more

Great Family Dinner 12/10/2007

After searching on Citysearch I found this restaurant. Over Thanksgiving weekend in an attempt to get away from all things turkey I took my entire family - 5 of us for some Indian Food. Arun and Puja are gracious hosts and will try to help you naviagte the large menu, usually filled with specials. We had Lamb Briyani, Chicken Saag, Tandoori Mushrooms, Chicken Tikki Masala, and many others. All was delicious and very fresh. Even though we had teenagers, age 16,15 and age 10, everyone loved the food and there was none left.\r \r Pros: Freshness, Service, Easy Going Dining Room, Parking in Rear more

Always feel welcome here! 11/18/2007

We've been here for dinner several times and have never been disappointed. Last night was no exception. We were greeted as family by our hostess as soon as we entered which made us feel very welcome. The two specials my husband & shared were succulent: Lamb Narangi, with a wonderful orange-flavored sauce and Chicken Vegetable Mangoli. Both were prepared just as we ordered, very mildly spiced. I enjoyed every bite of each. The chef came over several times to make sure we were enjoying our meal. \r We will definitely return soon because we feel so welcome here and the food is better than many other Indian restaurants we have tried both on LI and in NYC. Pros: Great food & service more

The best Indian restaurant in the country !!! 11/3/2007

Was just there last night to celebrate my birthday. I had a blast and so did my guests. We were treated like family and we have been for the multiple times we've been to Rang Mahal. I would recommend this to anyone looking for the best of the best when it come's to fine Indian Cusine ! Also was gifted a great bottle of indian wine on the exit. Love it, will be there soon. Nav&Sonia Pros: Everything more

Absolutely the finest 10/18/2007

I've never had a bad meal here, the food is fresh, expertly cooked, spiced to your taste and offered in great quantities. The owners are always ready with expert recommendations on new things to try. I have had many vegetable dishes and most especially like the chicken vindaloo and the chicken biryani. There are always many specials and appetizers to choose from, and it is a very comfortable restaurant whether you want to eat a meal there or get some take-out for home. Plan ahead to save room for the rice pudding or you will find yourself stuffed! Other dishes not to be missed are the many varieties of bread and, yes, even the chana masala, while simple, is a very tender treat. Pros: Restroom was clean and well-stocked. Cons: None. more

food made with love. . . 9/7/2007

You would think food made with love says it all, but there is soo much more to it. . . Rangmahal is a family run restaurant, he cooks, she greets and helps serve along with one of their sons. The resuarant is beautifuly decorated- indian tapestries, statues- making you feel like you are in another land. You can sit in the middle of this small, yet by no mean claustrauphic restuarant, and be seen, or you can choose one of romantic nooks falling in love. Ok, so the food- Amazing!!!! Especiatially if you are vegetarian. They make homemade soy chicken that is out of this world!!!!! He spend two days making it and you can have it with any kind of curry- that right fellow vegatarians- even tikka masala :) They also make, by far, the best vegtable briyani i have ever had. Their use of spices has always been perfect!!!! Their veggie dishes in general are always spectacular. As far as apps are concerned, im not usually a somasa fan, this place changed my mind!!!! The deserts are works of art, beautifully presented, bring a camera and take some pictures. So not only that, they have a cool drink menue- so you don't have to stick with the king fisher. For you non-drinkers, they also make a great rose lemonade. On top of the best indian food, the owners are such wonderful people, their only concern is that you enjoy a special culinary experience. Go there with an empty stomach, you will not be dissappointed! more

Great Service, they make you feel right at home 4/10/2007

I have been to many Indian restaurants but I have never had such good Indian food. Not only do they make great traditional dishes they also play around with many different ingredients that are in season and fresh. Not only is the food great but the service is fantastic, they make you feel right at home and are very very accomodating. Between the food, atmosphere, and warm service It is a great overall experience. Pros: FOOD,Service, Ambience, Innovative cocktails, Cons: Being full and not having more room to fit in all the delicious food more

Best Indian food 4/5/2007

I went to Rangmahal for the first time tonight after hearing rave reviews for a number of years. The only regret I have is that I had not dined here sooner! I've been to many Indian restaurants on Long Island and NYC, but Rangmahal is by far the best. The food was amazing, flavorful, creative and tantalizing (mushroom tandoori, navratan korma, chili chicken to name a few). The lychee bomb cocktail and mango lassis were also top notch as was the decadent dessert of mango with vanilla ice cream surrounded by a shell of chocolate and fresh coconut. The food itself will keep me coming back for more, but I must say that while the food was delicious, the most refreshing aspect of Rangmahal was the service. From the moment we walked in we were welcomed by the owner as if we were long time customers. She was warm and friendly and more than willing to explain the specials to us and answer any questions we had. The chef also made several trips to our table to make sure we were satisfied with each course. I loved the food so much that I wound up ordering another meal to bring home to my husband--he also loved the food. I will definitely return to Rangmahal as soon as I can. Thank you, Rangmahal, for the wonderful food, service and ambiance! Pros: Service, food, atmosphere more

Fantastic Indian 4/3/2007

My husband and I have been to Rangmahal more than a dozen times, even though it's out of the way for us. The amazing thing is that it is consistently excellent in every way. The food is by far the best Indian my husband and I have ever dined on -- and we've eaten in several Indian restaurants in New York City. My husband (who's Jewish) calls the owners his ""Indian Mama and Papa."" He loves the way they both visit the table and check on whether everything is OK and if we're enjoying the meal. Every item on the menu is exceptional, from the moist delicious chicken tandoori to more exotic items on the specials menu, such as prawns in papaya sauce and other surprising flavors. The mix of spices is like pure alchemy on some of the dishes. Okra is one of my favorite vegetables, and even though my husband doesn't normally like it much, he raves about the way bindi is prepared there -- carmelized and crispy and surprisingly scrumptious. I can't say enough about what a pleasure it is to have dinner at Rangmahal. Pros: Food is tremendously good, service is terrific, atmosphere is intimate Cons: None. Although it is not cheap, it is worth every penny. more

Best Indian Food in Nassau county 3/25/2007

Great selection with very friendly service. Be sure to try the specials and recommendations from the staff. Trying a new dish here is usually the way I figure out my new favorite Indian food. Overall, there is great food that will please everybody from the veteran fan of Indian food to somebody looking to expand their palate. Highly Recommended! Pros: Food, Service more

most knowlegdable and friendly service 3/6/2007

I've eaten Indian food before, but never like this! Most of the items on the menu were not the typical fare found at other restaurants. The menu is quite extensive. But, the best of all is the blackboard listing the daily specials. My husband had lobster tails with mangoes. This was a daily special. My dish, chicken with cashews and gravy ,was on the menu. I ordered it only on the advice of the owner and was not at all disappointed. Both of our selections came seasoned as we had requested.\r The decor is quite colorful and inviting. The staff is always ready to please. Th chef/owner enjoys chatting with the guests, making sure that everyone is just fine.\r A must for a return visit. \r \r Pros: service, variety of dishes, atmosphere Cons: some of the shrimp dishes are a little pricey more

The best Indian food we EVER had!!! 2/4/2007

We found Rangmahal in our Entertainment book, so we decided to make the trip out from eastern LI to give it a try. \r \r First off, the restaurant was very charming and cozy. The tables were elegantly set with interesting, heavy Indian flatware and small candles for a romantic air. The service was amazing! The chef even came around to the tables, which we thought was really nice. The fact that this restaurant is a family owned business showed and made all the difference. \r \r The list of cocktails was different and interesting, so we took a gander on the Monsoon Wedding and the Mango Martini, which were delicious. The waiter who helped us make our choices was ever so helpful and courteous. He even stated that if we didn't like our beverages he could bring us something else. You don't find service like this every day. How wonderful, right!!?? \r \r Then came our food: The vegetable samosas were absolutely superbe, covered with the most light and delectable crust. As for our Navratan kormas they were....mmm...so exquisite. We were in heaven! The double layer, chocolate covered, chocolate and vanilla ice cream with a raspberry and almond filling was just the right thing to top off our delicious meal. \r \r Plainly put, the food we ate here was the BEST Indian food we ever tasted!! (So sorry to all the Indian Nanis we know!). This restaurant was definately worth our 45 minute drive and we will without a doubt come again with friends. In our opinion, Rangmahal is indeed a must try if you are on Long Island! Go there to experience a meal as wonderful as we had. :) Pros: Impeccable service and delicious food. Cons: I am not sure if there is a parking lot. We parked in front of the restaurant on the roadside. more

Best Indian Food 1/28/2007

My husband and I went to Rangmahal for the first time on Saturday night and it was the best experience I have had in a Long Island restaurant in quite some time. The service from the minute you walked in to the minute you left was wonderful. Everyone was so friendly and helpful, and the chef came out to ask each and every table how their food was and if anything needed improving. Of course, everyone said the same thing, no! How can you improve perfection? The presentation alone was magnificent, but the taste was amazing. My husband had lambchops in the chef's special sauce and they were the best we have ever tasted. I had the lamb tikka masala and it was unbelievable, I could have licked the plate clean. We will definately be going back soon, we were ready the next day! You have to try it, you will want to go back! A jewel hidden in Hicksville! Pros: Everything more

Heaven On EARTH 11/3/2006

This is not only the best Indian restaurant I have been to but the BEST OF THE BEST... THERE IS NOT ONE THING WRONG WITH IT... FROM service to food to the beverages to the dessert... and the soothing hot cup of freshly made Indian tea or the Ice or hot home made Indian Coffee... Every bite of food is as if a new door to heaven opens up for u in your mouth.... with every taste bud coming alive.... The food presentation is def. the best I have seen... The desserts are def. like shown in the picture... sometime you dont want to even touch just look at them and when you do OH MY GOD... The chef's special cake that he makes is to die for you will forget all others. I still remember what he says dessert is like a celebrity, just as people make room for them to come in so does you stomach so have some dessert."" The service is excellent the drinks are out of this world... the funny thing is that Puja takes the orders for the food just tell her what u like and she will suggest the best and for drinks just tell Aman, tell him what you like and he will get you the best I havent been let down yet... sometimes I dont even know what I get... when you go there its seems like that u part of the family... I think the secret to the food and drinks and service is that when it is done AND made its the love that is put into doing it that makes it taste and feel even better... If you want great authentic food made with love to make it taste even better than you must go here I promise you will love the food and the place... Pros: everything about it, service, food more

Best Indian Food, Excellent service 10/28/2006

From the time you set foot into Rangmahal you are treated like a member of their family. Arun is a superb chef who frequently comes out to make sure everything is up to your expectations. You can really taste the love that is put into each dish. Puja his wife always greets you with a warm hearted welcome. I have yet to find an indian restaurant that can meet the match of Rangmahal. I highly recommend the shai cake, a specialty desert that is quite blissful, but you must try this heavenly offering for yourself, you won't be dissapointed! This family run business works together to bring you the best in dining experiences. Puja and Arun's 2 sons are very nice and also provide great service, very kind and professional. So if you are looking for a great indian meal in a cozy atmosphere coupled with great service check out Rangmahal. Pros: Delicious food, Service, atmosphere Cons: So much good food you can't find the room to fit it all more
