A lot of fun 4/6/2006

I took my nephew here on Free museum day. I took him up to one of the docents dressed as a conductor, and asked who he was. My 4-year-old nephew told me, "That's a pirate!" The docent agreed with him! It was hilarious. The staff here is so friendly, and they are great with little kids, especially if they have a short attention span like my nephew. His favorite part is the train table where you can play with Thomas the Train toys. more

Join the caboose club 12/14/2005

We love the Train Museum! It is a great place to take the whole family. Everyone loves it no matter the age. There are things for adults to do and learn about, and the kids love it too. They have numerous train tables upstairs for the kids to play with. Downstairs you can go onto real trains, a dining car, the mail car, a sleeping car, etc. If you have a little one be sure to buy a Caboose Club membership. It will give your little one (+ 1 adult) into the train museum and on the train that runs in Old Sacramento for an entire year for only $10 per year! It is an incredible deal. more

So original 9/29/2005

This museum is great for all ages. When I last went, it was a free weekend, so it was a little crowded. They have films that you can watch in an autorium, and they have lots of locomotives. My favorite is the mail car. There's lots of exhibits concerning Railroads. Upstairs, there's quite a collection of miniture trains, and a place for children to play with them. more

Take the kids! 8/19/2005

Kids love railroads! I did when I was a kid, kids surely would love to visit this railroad museum. Here, kids can see real railroads and experience their dream of becoming a locomotive engineer. A rich museum includes a history of Californian railroads and if you are lucky, you can pickup a replica golden stake from the gift shop! more

Railroad Museum 8/13/2005

The Railroad Museum is a great place to take your kids if they are grade school or older. This is a really large museum where you can learn about the history of the railroad and the part Sacramento played in the railroad system. It is located in Old Town Sacramento on the Sacramento River. I remember we went through one train and it would jar back and forth giving you the feeling you were actually on a train ride. There is a gift shop if you wish to buy any mementos or souvenirs more

Railroad Museum - fun for all!! 8/9/2005

The Sacramento Railroad Museum is an astonishing collection of railroad history - cars, engines, artifacts from trains. It is a journey through the turbulent history of the transcontinental railroad, and it does talk about how important Sacramento was in the big scheme of things. This museum is immense, and located in beautiful old town Sacramento right on the Sacramento River. There is a nice gift shop inside for those mementos. It is a place you can take the whole family - there truly is something for everyone here!! more

Great Slice of History 8/8/2005

Every child that grew up in Sacramento has frequented the Railroad Museum on at least one school field trip. The museum is full of history, and children are always amazed and inspired by what they learn in their visits there. There are numerous trains that you can actually board and see how everything works. There are plenty of hands-on activities to keep the attention of younger children, and older children will be fascinated by the stories told in the tour. The price is reasonable, and once a year they even have free admission day (although be warned - it's VERY crowded on that day!) more

To remember the history of Trains in California 7/12/2005

Always a great place to vist espicially if you are a native Sacramentian. As it never hurts to be familiar with the State's History. The museum is in beautiful condition I would rate it along side some of the bigger museums in Washington DC. As its so historic as the Railroad was the livelyhood to get supplies to settlers and still today its a very important part of our society today whether its riding Light Rail or Amtrak. It has roots with the locomotive. more
