Punjabi Dhaba is a great place to bring a few friends and enjoy a meal. This place is always busy, and the staff are working hard. The food must be fresh because of the turnover....

Pros and Cons of Authentic Roadside Indian 5/13/2006

The Punjabi Dhaba is certainly an experience. Friends familiar with India tell me this is about as close as we'll get in Somerville to roadside Indian food - fast, cheap and a little greasy. The atmosphere is no-frills and hectic, with music and kitchen-yelling and crowds. If you eat on the main floor prepare to be surrounded by hungry takeout customers. There's more seating upstairs. The food is good and if you eat it there you get the full traditional silver-tray service. Get your lassis from the fridge case. The perfect place for you Indian food fix when you don't feel like dealing with a restaurant. more

Kind of like Indian fast-food 11/1/2005

We love Indian food, so for a fix in our new neighborhood, we went to Punjabi Dhaba. The place is small, and we chose to sit down amidst the crowds coming in and out and smushing against our table. We received our food in good time and began to eat it. At first, I was craving Indian food so badly that I couldn't get enough. And then reality set in... it was Indian food, but not great Indian food. It was heavy on the grease instead of spices, and my husband's pineapple lassi was not impressive. We paid about $20 for two entrées, the lassi, and naan, which would have been fine if the food was worthy. In the end, we were full, but not satisfied. more

Indian diner delivers "roadside" experience 11/19/2004

As is true in many countries, in India some of the best food can be found at roadside cafes and diners that cater to budget travellers and truckers. Pujabi Dhaba brings the experience of Indian "roadside" eating right to the heart of Cambridge in Inman Square, complete with jostling crowds and an ancient TV showing bhangra music videos. And at $5 for a vegetarian meal, this is the best place in town for a quick fix of Indian food. more
