Not the best hotel experience 4/24/2009

This hotel is okay. Cheap, but you get what you pay for. For me, while I'm on vacation I try not to spend too much time in my room so I'm just looking for a room where I can sleep comfortably and get ready for my day. Here are some of the problems I had with my stay at the Plaza Hotel and Casino in downtown Vegas: 1) The next room over was smoking out (can't use the 'p' word cause citysearch won't allow it), so I had to endure that while I went to sleep (it is one of the rooms where they are joined by a locked door), 2) out of the 6 elevators, only 2 were in operation. The other 4 were under repair, 3) Tried taking shower in the morning, but all I got nothing but steaming water - no cold water in the shower or bathroom sink. Called front desk and they said they will have someone fix it. 20 minutes later it was fixed, but I had to keep checking the water to see if it was fixed. Never got a call or contact from the hotel saying it was fixed. 4) You have to pay for parking but you can get it reimbursed at the cashier office only within 24hrs from the time you park. Overall, the experience was not horrible, but not good either. I think the next time I will stay at the California or dish out the extra cash for a hotel on the strip. It's just that the circumstances of my trip, downtown Vegas hotel's was a better pick. Pros: cheap rooms, 1/2 lbs hot dog eatery place Cons: elevator issues, parking more

DISGUSTING!!! 6/21/2008

Caution to anyone thinking about staying at the Plaza Hotel. The entire place smells like backed up sewage. Only two elevators run so you wait FOREVER to get to your room. Once you get there, the nightmare continues. The blankets and sheets are threadbare and stained. The room stinks and the wallpaper is peeling off the walls. The carpet is dirty and stained. This place doesn't need updating, it needs to be bulldozed. I used hotelsdotcom to book the reservation so they wouldn't let me cancel on the night of my stay without charging me for the room. It was so bad that I paid to stay somewhere else anyway. Also, don't use hotelsdotcom to book anything. They lie and you can never get any sort of help from them in the event that you are having trouble. Pros: Absolutely nothing Cons: The horrible smell, the unfriendly staff, the disgusting rooms more

Very nice place and a cool 50s style place to eat and a great afternoon show. 3/30/2008

The Best Bingo in Las Vegas and 50s Style Restaurant (Best Breakfast Omlett) the cook has making omletts for 18 years and boy are they good. Don't forget to give him a tip. The afternoon stage show is great and very reasonable. We always have a good time here.\r \r Wally (Wolfman) Pearson Pros: Best Bingo,Good Food, and Lounge Show Cons: Some Hotel Construction more

Definitely a place to stay while on a budget 9/29/2006

we stayed at the palza it was what i expected for what we paid. $200 roughly for 4 nights as long as you remember you get what you paid for it's a good place to stay if you're trying to enjoy freemont st. my big problem was that the windows weren't supposed to open. i got mine open but especially in the smoking rooms you'd think you'd want to let air circulate i would stay there again if we were to go back to Vegas on a tight budget. Pros: cheap right on fremont street Cons: the beds were awful more

What is that smell? 7/20/2006

The second you walk in the door you're taken back with a smell, I thought someone had pooted a really bad poot. The smell was in the entire casino, the hallway and the rooms, I am guessing there is something wrong with the air conditioning. Luckily, if you never leave the hotel, you'll eventually get use to it (like being in cow country, eventually, you want notice.) The buffet was just so sad. The faux asian food was, well, interesting but not in a good way more like, wow, how did they make it taste that bad? The rooms also had an interesting setup, like they let a blind person arrange the furniture. Really. The bed is right next to the door and the door opens facing the bed. So anyone walking by can see if someone is in the bed.\r \r The whole place just had a weird feeling about it, even the people were well, once again interesting. It was like being in the twilight zone. If you love the strip, then forget about staying here, you'll be disappointed. Pros: cheaper than the strip Cons: it's not the strip more

You Must Try The Dome Restaurant 12/30/2005

I didn't stay at the Plaza, it doesn't look like it would compare well with other hotels in the neighborhood. I did eat at the Dome Restaurant at the Plaza and that is a must do in Las Vegas. It is a glass dome at the end of the Fremont St Experience. Every hour diners are treated to a one of a kind view of the world's largest light show. That alone makes it worth the money. We also had a great meal there. Great prime rib and pasta dishes. Well priced for the overall experience. Pros: the view, the food Cons: older, needs renovation more

Horrible 2/7/2005

Once I made it past Cancer Alley (aka the casino) and up the elevator - my God the hallway on the ""Non-smoking floor"" smelled like a cross between a smokers' lounge & wet dog. My room was of decent size but smelled like smoke, the floor was disgusting, wallpaper curling off and the water in the shower took about 5 minutes to warm. I was stuck in the South Tower and the damn TRAINS start really coming thru about 6am - MISERY. Bartenders are very slow the Casino even when I wanted to buy a drink. The Sports Book was pretty good thing though: decent seating, lots of tv's and friendly people taking your wagers. The 'Little Strip' is right across from the hotel. I would never recommend this place to anyone and will stick to The Strip from now on. Pros: sports book, cheap Cons: very old, smoke-filled, bad bar tenders more
