They will kill you 3/12/2013

My sister was admitted with chest pains and shortness of breath - she is still in her teenage years. After being made to walk everywhere without being given oxygen or breathing treatments at all, they sent her home with anti inflammatory meds. They said she was fine, nothing wrong. A few days later she was admitted to Southwest General's ICU with upwards of 20 blood clots in her lungs. She was there for a week. The doctor there said there is no way Parma could have missed them but they did. Do not go to Parma Hospital unless you want to die. more

Sub-par nurses, do not read patient charts or follow doctor orders, lazy! 7/23/2011

I am appalled with the track record of Parma Community General Hospital and their sub-par nursing staff- specifically the nursing staff on the 6th floor. A dear relative was admitted for cellulitis, which required a hospital stay for treatment with intravenous antibiotics. When my relative arrived she was active, mobile and of sound mind. The ER staff was astounded that at 92 she was so mentally alert and mobile. Once admitted to the 6th floor, she began to take a turn for the worse...the nurse called at 12:30 am stating that she is hallucinating and refusing meds. Upon speaking to the nursing staff she continued to hallucinate the next day. I confronted the staff and asked could she have been given the wrong dosage of medication, or a mix up. They stated absolutely not, and they have never made a mistake such as that. My relatives chart included orders to be out of bed for meals and to use the bathroom. My sister argued with the nurse that this was in the chart. The nurse disagreed more

Absolutely Horrible, Unforgettable and Disturbing 12/9/2008

My experience was horrible, unforgettable and disturbing. My father was a patient in ICU. On more then one occasion his vent tube became disconnected and the day nurse attendent was too busy to respond. I can only imagine the type of care my father received in late hours when we were not present to monitor his condition. The hospital is understaffed and uncaring. Our response when we urgently approaced the front desk is "I am talking" We stated that my father's vent tube became disconnected. The nurse was indifferent. My father eventually passed away and I must continually ask myself if we were, in part, responsible for his death by leaving him at Parma Hospital. ICU is not as it once was. The floor is more representative of an understaffed nursing home. Today's heart centers are more indicative of the the type of care once provided by ICU. One of our family members present the entire time is an experienced nurse who many times cut through the bureaucracy to garner basic car more

My Grandmother was having chest pain and was taken to Parma hospital. After the second night she seem to be doing much better. Well that night they gave her ambien to help her sleep. Well she's 82 years old weights 94 pounds and never took anything of that nature in her life. She calls me that night saying she's scared and that she doesn't feel right. I told her to just get some rest and by the next day it will be out of her system and feel a lot better. Well the next day she lost her memory. Need I say more? I don't trust that hospital and if a loved one is there check on them frequently. My aunt is a nurse their and said they are short staffed and are over worked most of the time so how are they able to do their job efficiently. The hospital needs to update patient's history regularly. Which I think they have trouble doing that. more

Thank You, Parma 8/12/2006

My grandma stayed at Parma Hospital twice this year and had long-term medical care. She was a very sick lady; she had congestive heart failure and a one or two mini strokes (transient attacks) and needed a lot of medical attention to drain accumulated lung fluids, monitor electrolytes, etc. The doctors, nurses, and staff were so attentive, caring, and did a wonderful job taking care of her. She had a few scary instances where her health dipped very low, but they made adjustments to her IVs and treatments, were knowledgeable, took constant tests to assess her current status, and gave her the best treatment they could. They were constantly checking in on her and were very warm. They did a WONDERFUL job caring for such a sick person and extending her life. I have much respect for their hospital. more
